    Newbie with Questions

Excess weight creates more wear on your joints. Why wait for the time you need knee or hip replacement? It's better to get your weight under control before you have the damage associated with getting diabetes (half the pancreatic islet cells that create insulin die off). You are doing the right thing. The sleeve is a very safe operation. I suggest looking for a Bariatric Center of Excellence for your surgery since they, statistically, have the best outcomes. Best wishes!

    so disappointed

Sorry to hear this! From what I've read, many insurances are converting to accepting the sleeve option. I suggest you try to find out if accepting the sleeve is in the decision process.

    Developing Diabetes After WLS?

I agree with @Sharon1964. The A1c is the definitive test. I had a followup 3 months out with my surgeon. My blood sugar is a lot less, but still is labeled "high." He also told me that, blood sugar should continue to go down as you lose more and more weight. Doing aerobics 45 minutes - 1 hour per day gives you an 80% chance of not getting diabetes. If you already have it, that exercise minimizes it.

    Liquid diet

Hi. I'm not sure if you are on the liquid pre-op diet or whether or not you are able to eat regular food. I would look in Google for a recipe for Vietnamese Bo Kho. It's a beef stew with carrots. It has anise seed in it which gives it a great light fragrance! If you go to a restaurant, they serve it with rice noodles, which I leave out of course.

Should I go to the ER?

In my area there are urgent care facilities that see you pretty quickly. It's much cheaper alternative than the ER and staffed by doctors.

    Pre-op diet-vegetarian style

I suggest adding 1 or 2 Tb. white miso to the Soup to see if that makes the veggie broth more appealing. Also, I would incorporate a lot of tofu into my diet, for example, Mapo Tofu has great flavor!
  14. I finished my pre-op drinks when I felt hungry. I usually didn't eat with the family. I suggest dumping everything into the crock pot on low in the morning. It's done when dinner time rolls around, & you don't have to keep staring at it.

    Gym ?

I suggest starting aerobics: alternate between treadmill and stationary bike for 10 minutes to start, increasing by 10%/ week. I now do 45 minutes per day. Next, I alternate on weight machines. I do arms and abs one day; legs and abs the next. I started at the lowest setting for each machine, gradually increasing the weight when it started to feel easy. I do one set of 12 on each machine. Alternating helps you avoid over training injuries by giving your muscles time to recuperate. Have fun!

    Calorie Intake!

I suggest keeping a spreadsheet that does an auto sum to make sure you're getting enough Protein and fluids. Not getting enough can slow things down. Having said that, losing 30 lbs. since December sounds like you're doing great!
  17. I agree with the previous posters, each day is much better than the last. I also had regrets, but VERY short-lived.

Damn did I really do this?

Walk as much as you are able to for the gas. Don't worry about the buyer's remorse... I remember thinking "How dumb was THIS! I had a PERFECTLY good stomach, now why did I have to go and mess with it!!!" I'm 4 1/2 months out now and can eat anything, just a small amount. The discomfort will pass and you will be amazed how much better you feel!

    Choosing a goal weight- questions

I suggest you read up on BMI. BMI is different based on gender and age. If you plug in your height, you should get a low BMI weight and high BMI weight, which is a pretty wide range. From there, I would experience how you feel as you are losing weight and get a sense of what's feels best to you.

    Hair Loss

@@clasnic1, I just went for another followup with my surgeon. I was sleeved on Sept. 26th. He said that, at this stage, he's looking for a loss of 1 lb./week. So it looks as though you're right on track!
