    1 year, 50lbs...only?

I suggest taking the word "only" out of your vocabulary when talking about your weight loss. You won't feel excited about your weight loss if you are minimizing it. Get a barbell and weights that equal 50 lbs. and lift it! THAT's how MUCH you've lost! Congratulations!

Would LOVE to be a bodybuilder post-surgery

Why not? I was watching a TV show recently that featured older women. One was a 72 year old body builder... yow, did she look strong!
  7. It's really sad that people seem to comment on someone's weight, etc. in a way that makes them feel like an object, and that's it's OK to do so. I can imagine it would hurt your feelings!

    Falling into old habits

I am a pre-op diabetic and had to deal with my sweet tooth and loving chocolate. I use Sweet N' Low for cold items and 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 times the amount of sugar in baked goods. That takes care of the sugar carbs. I suggest you look up diabetic recipes using cocoa powder. That'll give you the taste of chocolate. As far as eating stuff I shouldn't and not taking home food or snacks I'd having a hard time staying away from, two books have helped me a lot: The Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery, Second Edition Paperback by Cynthia Alexander From the First Bite (and other books) by Kay Sheppard It's not just the surgery, the "head game" is just as important. Good luck!

Bypass or Sleeve. Times running out

I chose the sleeve because its less invasive and less complications. I was severely overweight and the RNY was suggested but I didnt feel comfortable with that. So now I sm down 200 pounds but still more to go. This is where the tool is the tool and I gotta make good choices. Also I could still get the RNY if I didnt like these results but so far Im glad I sleeved. Good luck!!! Holy smokes! Having a loss of 200lbs. is mind blowing! I imagine it is a whole lot easier to move around and live your life! Congratulations!
  11. Yeah, probably not the best thing to say. BUT, restrictive diets don't tend to work long term. What you have chosen to do is very safe AND very effective for the long term. Don't worry about her.

    Protein sources

They stress it so much because you take in so much less food, you won't get enough protein to prevent your body from using your muscles for calories-- having at least 60g prevents "muscle wasting".

    Protein sources

Talking about tofu, I really like "Tofutti Sour Supreme" a sour cream taste, made out of tofu. For a 2 Tb. serving size, the specs are: fat: 5g, carbs: 2g, protein: 1g. Calories: 60.
  14. Wow! What a difference! You look so much healthier! Congratulations.

Bypass or Sleeve. Times running out

Why cause malabsorption of vitamins and minerals and the dumping syndrome if you don't have to... and be successful?
  17. Two books helped me retrain my relationship with food and manage my environment to minimize temptation: 1) Emotional First + Aid (the bariatric surgery one) 2) From the First Bite (and other books) by Kay Sheppard

    Finally! Getting my sleeve!

That's coming up soon! Congrats! What insurance companys? How did it finally go through? [some of us need help of a different kind]
  19. Welcome! You're in good company! A lot of us have been struggling with weight for a long time. Losing weight before surgery lessens the risk of surgery and gives you a chance to address the reasons for overeating and learn the nutritional requirements for health post-op. The surgery is a tool; it doesn't get rid of all the excess weight without work. There is also a span of time, usually between 1 day - 2 weeks, right before surgery that you need to drink Clear liquids, preferably with Protein. This shrinks the liver, also to minimize damage during surgery. For getting the most assistance from the folks on this site, it would help if you filled out your profile. What kind of surgery are you thinking of?
  20. I'm pre-op... thanks for letting me know what my diet will look like on "the other side."

This may not apply to you and your insurance rules, but they may only count nutrition seminars within the last 3 years. I don't want you to stop at 5 classes, think you're done, and miss the 6th one, which could cause a substantial delay in your surgery date!

insurance pay from lap band to sleeve

... that's why I don't talk to them on the phone about important issues. Send a letter certified mail, return receipt requested. They'll have to sign for it. The receipt comes back to you. It's not foolproof... you don't have any real proof of what was inside.

    Cheerios Protein

I think if you get to your goal and want to *stay* there, you'd be better off to stay away from it entirely. Use Sweet N' Low for cold items, Splenda to cook with.
