protein during clear liquid phase
BeagleLover replied to I'mDoingIt!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently doing research on ProSource No Carb liquid Protein. It can be added to any liquids, hot or cold. I've put in a question online as to what kind of protein is in it--- hope it's protein isolate, which is most useable. -
Online, you could use the blog, "The World According to Eggface" I bought a book, "The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein shakes." Good luck!

Insure nutrition
BeagleLover replied to rhonda2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought that you might be able to send in the order to a place that carries the Protein Powder along with the script and they bill the insurance. OR, you might be able to order it and pay for it, then file a claim later. I don't understand why I only hear about Insure nutrition handling this for people. -
It's really great that you are having the surgery BEFORE getting diabetes. The crossover from pre-diabetic to diabetic is the time when around 50% of the islet cells in the pancreas (that produce insulin) die off. You will be able to avoid diabetes totally. Fantastic!

Insure nutrition

If you get a script from your surgeon or primary care doctor, and are approved for the surgery, why do you need to go through Insure Nutrition? -
Just had sleeve surgery and I'm ALWAYS HUNGRY!
BeagleLover replied to Erica517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pre-op, so I don't have this experience yet. I heard that caffeinated coffee may contribute to excess acidity. Could that be a culprit? -
I love Indian food. There are all kinds of recipes for "chana saag" on google. Here's one of them, a coconut variation: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/feb/11/coconut-chana-saag-vegan-recipe If you are afraid the taste will be too strong for where you are right now, just put in half the spices. Whenever I make one of these recipes, I use spinach that I steam separately. If I couldn't have solid food, I'd leave out the chick peas (& the oil?) until you think you can tolerate them. Then puree it and enjoy!

So sorry to hear how you were treated! I'm glad to hear that you made the choice to get rid of the excess poundage you've been carrying around... it must have been hard! You should live a much longer, quality life. -
Welcome! You've come to the right place! Congratulations on your choice to make a change to make yourself healthier. There are always going to be people that are negative, for whatever reason. It doesn't really matter why. Most people on this site have had difficulty with weight issues, and I've found, are incredibly supportive! Good luck on your journey!

Insure nutrition
BeagleLover replied to rhonda2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does this happen AFTER surgery approval? -
I did research on making my own clear drinks for post-op, without having to buy the expensive ready-to-drink Protein drinks. ProSource Plus may help you. They have an unflavored one that dissolves in cold or hot liquids.

60 pounds is quite an achievement! If you are concerned you are eating too much, log and weight what you do eat and see if it totals what has been recommended by your NUT. Exercise will also help.
-
First, I suggest you stop telling yourself you can't do this! There are rules for pre-op to shrink your liver so help avoid damage during the surgery. Post-op, there are rules on what you can and cannot drink or eat so your stomach has a chance to heal, & so you'll feel most comfortable. To be successful long term, you need to find a way to curb emotional eating. If you don't make the "head game" right, you will re-gain weight after the surgery. That might be the reason the doctor is requiring this. Two books have helped me: Emotional First + Aid by Cynthia Alexander (the bariatric one) From the First Bite (& other books) by Kay Sheppard Good luck! You can do this.

need help with my surgery
BeagleLover replied to NURSE11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I suggest researching the Bariatric Centers of Excellence near you and finding a good doctor there. Plenty of doctors have done revisions / converted to a sleeve or gastric bypass! -
I can't imagine how awful it must have been to lose your son! If you are inclined to read books, I suggest reading some on grieving. On the food side, there are two that helped me: Emotional First + Aid (the bariatric surgery one) by Cynthia Alexander From the First Bite (and other books) by Kay Sheppard. Wishing you the best.

Fantastic news! I am diabetic and have a hard time standing or walking very much; my ankles and feet ache. I don't know if it is my weight and/or early neuropathy. Glad to hear you are doing so much better diabetic-wise after your weight loss! -
Is it your insurance's requirement to be above a BMI of 35, with co-morbidities; or a BMI of 40 without them? Would losing that much weight disquality you?

The Council On Size And Weight Discrimination..
BeagleLover replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just read the article. It's just... WEIRD! "The stomach is very expandable and... it will grow?! First, this was written in 1999--- lots of advances have been made since this has been written. He also throws out a lot of "some people" this and that and makes it sound like particular problems are widespread. What I found most revealing is his statement: "We think people who want to lose weight should wait until doctors and scientists come up with a way that is absolutely proven to be completely safe and completely effective. Until then, find other ways to improve your health and well-being. " Here is another statement about what his research is about: " http://www.case.edu/med/nutrition/fac/primary/ernsberger.html RESEARCH INTERESTS Our laboratory has two major overlapping foci. One is centered around genetic obesity and the role of nutrition in cardiovascular disease. The other focus is on the role of lipids in the signaling pathways of a novel receptor Protein expressed in the brain, the I1-imidazoline receptor. At any given time, tens of millions of Americans are on weight loss diets. Most will lose weight, but 95% or more will eventually gain the weight back and some will gain back more than they lost. Cycles of weight loss and regain can be harmful. Epidemiological studies show higher than expected rates of heart attacks and deaths among "yo-yo dieters". Why does losing and regaining weight seem to raise the risk of cardiovascular disease? " So he wants everyone to *wait* until scientists (he and others) come up with something proven safe and effective. That has happened already, attested to by many members on this site. -
Welcome! Having a baby daughter is a great incentive to be healthier! Best wishes... I think you'll enjoy this site; I've learned SO much!
