  1. I suggest going through with the appeal. Writing a letter is the easy part. If you wait yet again, the credit you're getting for taking the nutrition classes and psych will expire & you'll be at square one again. It's worth the trouble if it will significantly affect your health in a good way!
  2. PLEASE don't give up! That's what they are hoping for!
  3. Based on what everyone is saying about being nervous and having trouble getting sleep, I think I will take my beagle, Lemon Drop, out for a VERY loooong walk. At least ONE of us will sleep well!

    DENIED by Aetna today :(

I definitely would appeal, citing the extenuating circumstances. Don't give up!
  6. Kind of far... but not out of the question.

    New Whey

I remember reading posts that much of the type of protein wasn't the right type to be absorbed.
  8. I agree. I think you will do well long term!
  9. Wow! Must have been a great moment!

    Wait...Wait..Wait For It...

Welcome! We all have hoops to go through, some more than others. We just tick them off as they are completed. I'm pre-op too and get a lot of confidence from the knowledge and experience of so many others before me. It is a safe operation that most people seem to be VERY happy they had-- they are way healthier, can move around much more easily and have extended their lives. Best wishes on your journey!

Not sure I can keep going

I agree with @4me4them. You can go to any psych. You don't have to go to theirs. I would get a list of the items from your surgeon's office that need to be addressed in the psych report and give that to the psych. That way, the report will be complete in the eyes of the insurance company. Good luck.. I can tell you really want this and will do well long term.

Doesn't this doctor have a back up? I'd check that too. Best wishes!

Yikes! It's tough to be patient when you're not eating anything of substance! I hope it comes through soon... just keep being a bug up their proverbial arses.

    Sleep apnea and sleeve surgery?

Yes, I would bring it to the hospital with you. Weight loss helps minimize or eliminate sleep apnea, but not until you lose a fair amount of weight.

    New Whey Liquid Protein 42g

Why not make recipes for ground meat... Italian or Swedish meatballs, ground chicken or turkey balls?! You can control the mix and not put in a lot of bread or other carbs.
  19. Besides a diet buddy, if you are trying to get qualified for insurance to pay, you need to attend nutrition seminars. Whenever I go, I get weighed in. That should help too.

New girl in need of friends!

PLEASE--- don't apologize for asking questions... that's why this site exists! I had been wanting this for a long while, but my primary doctor said, __ Hospital will do the surgery and leave you... and I don't want to have to handle the complications. I must admit, that set me back a bit. I also didn't feel comfortable with the gastric bypass. It seemed to drastic for me to have my insides re-routed and have dumping syndrome. Unfortunately, I listened too long and, meantime, became diabetic. In that cross over from pre-diabetic to being diabetic, around half of the pancreatic islet cells die off and don't make any more insulin. Then I saw an episode of My 600lb. Life. The doctor does surgery for people that are very heavy. He usually requires people to lose a significant amount of weight on their own before he does their surgery. However, one woman's condition was so dire, that he said he couldn't wait for her to lose weight. He would do a "less invasive" type of surgery called the gastric sleeve. Say WHAT?! Never heard of it. I was off and running doing the research and liked what I saw. I went to a nearby hospital that is a bariatric Center of Excellence to hear a presentation on the 3 main types of bariatric surgery and brought my hubby along. He told me he was glad he went; if he hadn't, he wouldn't have felt comfortable. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and also had sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver. For the fatty liver, I found out that I was headed towards needing to have an insulin pump all the time. Also, to get my liver working well again, I needed to lose ALL the excess weight AND keep it off. I knew from past experience that wasn't likely. The chances of doing that were 5%--- NOT good odds! The sleeve sounded like a great effective option. So, I made my decision and stuck to it. I'm about 4 months into the 6 month process of qualifying for insurance. Hopefully, my surgery will be approved.
  23. Wow! You have done SO well!
  24. I've had my gall bladder out too, didn't feel any pain and had no problems at all. You go to sleep for while, wake up, and you are on the "other side" as they say here.
