Still Attend Support Group Meetings as a Vet?
BeagleLover replied to Andrew0929's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm around 5 1/2 months out. I enjoy going--- seeing other people's progress. It also reminds me to keep my focus on watching what I eat. -
It took me around a month before I got my starch back.

@@kristikay, according to my surgeon, the stomach may stretch a little, but only IF you've overeaten lots of Protein at many meals for an extended length of time.

Congratulations! You look fabulous, and I'm sure a heck of a lot healthier! -
@@Shell88, I have two suggestions: First, make sure they will use a longer blood pressure cuff. The small ones can really hurt. Second, request your pain meds be given by IV rather than a pill. Sometimes it's really hard to take in enough liquid to wash them down. Just remember that you put lot of thought into this already, you are doing this for your health, are doing the right thing and are making a good decision.

I have dark brown hair with some gray and use henna. It's natural. It doesn't dry my hair out or cause it to break; it coats the hair. I get mine in an ethnic Indian store. It comes in two colors, red and black. I mix the (leaf) powder with coffee and a couple tablespoons of vinegar until it is the consistency of yogurt, then let it sit for around 8 hours. Waiting helps it turn into a gel so it stays in your hair when you apply it. I put a foil cap to keep the heat in and leave it on my hair for 45 minutes, then rinse it out. I do this once a month.

Considering weight loss surgery, need feedback from those who've had it.

@@mae7365, my surgeon said that, to reduce the chances of having reflux, post-ops shouldn't be eating after 7:00pm. Another recommendation was to put blocks under the legs of the bed in the front so you're not lying perfectly flat. -

Do you like woodworking? I went to a conference for training and it was just about all guys. I am married and not interested, but so many men came up to me and started a conversation-- I think they were just curious. -

What can I eat instead of cake after 1 month post-op?
BeagleLover replied to Luna Patricia Del Rosario's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heck, it's your birthday and only comes once a year. Get whatever looks good to you and enjoy it! Eat a few tiny bites, wait a litte while, eat a few more until you feel satisfied. It's not the end of the world! -

I absolutely love to cook, try different cuisines and interesting combinations of spices. I had the sleeve the end of last September. I didn't feel like cooking the first month, but resumed my interest afterwards. I still enjoy eating tasty meals, but just don't eat as much. Most of the part of the stomach that creates ghrelin is removed, so you don't have as big an appetite. What I also like about the sleeve is that there is no re-routing of your intestinal tract. The upper part of the intestine which absorbs certain Vitamins and minerals is left in place. That translates into not needing as much supervision of your vitamin/mineral status post-surgery. Best of luck in your decision. -
Watermelon during the purée/mushy stage?
BeagleLover replied to rhondatk's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't try it then, but I remember reading on Bariatric Pal that it caused problems because it was so fibrous. You could try a tiny amount and increase it gradually to see how it goes. -

“The Biggest Loser:” Irresponsible Weight Loss Surgery Comments?
BeagleLover replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
As I see it, Biggest Loser has a business brand to protect. I imagine they see WLS as a threat... they are getting lots of money from the show itself + people paying thousands and thousands for a few weeks(!) There have been stories of people who "successfully" lost all this weight, and then it came back, for example, there was one person on Bariatric Pal that lost the weight on Biggest Loser and eventually wound up having WLS. Maybe if they discourage bariatric surgery, it keeps the hope alive that you can lose all this weight and keep it off... just like most diets and products. Possible (< 5% chance), but not likely. -
