pre-op diet help needed
BeagleLover replied to docbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you... VERY difficult to lose weight! The only thing I have is the pre-op diet plan that my nutritionist gave me: Instructions on PreOp Diet - meal plan Example Morning meal: 1 serving Protein shake ½ c. oatmeal (plain/unflavored), farina, grits, & other hot cereals (do not add butter or sugar) Snack: 1 c. sugar-free pudding lunch: 1 serving of Protein Shake 6 oz. fat-free, low sugar yogurt (<20 grams sugar/serving) Snack: Sugar-free Gelatin dinner: 1 serving Protein Shake 1/2c. unsweetened applesauce Bedtime Snack: 1 serving of Protein Shake 6 oz. fat-free, low sugar yogurt (<20 grams sugar/serving) 1200 calories per day 60 (women) – 80 (men) grams protein per day <= 100 grams of total carbohydrate per day Also, there is a book that helped me a lot: Emotional First Aid Kit by Cynthia Alexander. It covers how to set up your environment so you can be more successful. I also would try for more exercise that won't cause a physical problem, for example, swimming, stationary bike, biking outside. You may want to check out meetup.com, add your zip code in, click on "Fitness," and find out what groups you can join to do exercise with others. -
I think it's great that you are considering an effective fix for bring overweight. My doctor told me that my weight would take 10 years off my life. That's a LONG time! Please be confidant that you are doing the right thing for yourself and your family! Mid to late teens tend to be more me-centric and not as likely to think of it from your point of view. I think that, when she sees you after your surgery being happier and healthier, and more active, she will be relieved and glad you did it.

Is the sleeve safe long term?
BeagleLover replied to Cutechiq10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome! I am pre-op and hoping to have gastric sleeve surgery in either late September or in October. My friend has heart problems, and she also has been encouraged to have this surgery to take the strain off her heart. Sounds this might really help you! Best wishes! -
Yes, you should find out at a followup appointment. The doctor should give you a report. Assuming you do have sleep apnea, that report will go with your paperwork package when it is submitted for approval.

They glue electrodes on your head and face-- there's a lot of them. You get a mask to put over the lower half of your face, then you go to sleep. When you wake up, they take them out and you leave.

Pocket Protein?
BeagleLover replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, that's weird. Hey, I'm getting the one for men--- 5 additional Protein grams! -
Welcome! I've learned a lot too!

Pocket Protein?
BeagleLover replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to the website, it is 95 - 98% bioavailability, whey Protein isolate in 2 oz. Looks like a good option, especially right after surgery! -
Pocket Protein?

No, but I'll certainly look into them. Have you? What do you think of the taste? -
Sh*t Just Got Real :-)

Welcome. Losing 30 lbs. on your own is quite an achievement! For Protein shakes, look at the labels... protein isolate is the most absorbable. There are three brands I know of that are 100% protein isolate: unjury, Syntrax nectar and Isopure. Based on the testimony of so many on this site, I believe the gastric sleeve is very effective-- much more so than dieting. Best wishes for success! -
1 year and 3 months post op. - about 220lbs
BeagleLover replied to Christian Zaccone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow wow wow!! You look terrific. Congratulations! You look so healthy. -
Liquid Diet Advantage or Unjury .. Which did you like?
BeagleLover replied to ge0rgette2's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
The best (most absorbable) Protein is protein isolate. Three brands are 100% isolate: unjury, Syntrax nectar & Isopure. -
FYI The book, "Emotional First Aid Kit" by Cynthia Alexander (bariatric) really helped me!
-

Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...
BeagleLover replied to Teachamy's topic in Rants & Raves
It doesn't have to be boring! Try Indian, for example, Salmon Tikka and Cucumber Raita: http://www.sonisfood.com/2013/02/salmon-tikka-wraps-with-cucumber-yoghurt-raita-sundaysupper.html Besides being tasty, it is marinated which makes it more tender. -

How life changed 1 year out

You look great! Think of all the years you've added to your life! -
What are you drinking? Protein drinks? Are you allowed ANY semi-solid food? I'm pre-op, but the NUT gave us a list of what we could eat. It included 1/2 c. of whole grains, for example, oatmeal, in the morning. Mid-afternoon snack included sugarless applesauce, which surprised me. Not much, I know, but hope it helps! [NOT looking forward to this either!]

Good luck! What kind of surgery are you having?
