    Post op problems

Isopure has Clear liquids that contain a fair amount of Protein. Also, my surgeon told me from day 1 it was a good idea to walk at least 1/2 hour per day. Folks on this site could help her better if the correct stats were put on her profile.

Got approval and surgery date today!

I was on the pre-op liquid diet for 9 days, over which I lost 4 pounds. My surgeon told me it would take 3 - 4 days after surgery for the diabetes to go away. My blood sugar went down significantly 2 days after surgery. I can't say the same will happen to you, but I think you will have better sugar control AFTER surgery. I wouldn't worry about it right now.
  5. A book helped me a lot: Emotional First + Aid Kit for Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia Alexander http://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical/dp/0976852659/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1413172008&sr=1-1&keywords=emotional+first+aid+kit+for+bariatric+surgery Also, I would get out of the room and TV and walk, a lot... eventually, you could get a bike and meet people. You need a life besides the 4 walls of a room and TV!
  6. I really don't know how. I received an e-mail copy of my doctor's report saying that he removed the gas. That's all I know. I think, if this is possible, everyone should demand that their doctor do this.
  7. No. I was sleeved Oct. 26th (Friday). I was fuzzy the 1st day because of the pain meds. I threw up a little a few times as I was coming out of the anesthesia. By Sunday morning I felt as though nothing had happened! It was incredible. You do need to pay attention to what they tell you is OK to eat, and you need to eat slowly. "Signs" that you have had enough are subtle; you will find out what that is for you. That's it. I'm SO glad I did this. Suggestions: 1) before you go into surgery, ask the doctor to write orders for pain medication to go directly into your IV (not big tablets) 2) tell the doctor you want the gas removed so you don't get the gas pains later.

    A little pain normal?

A little burp is a sign to me that I have to stop eating or drinking very soon. If I don't stop, I get an ache.

    October 14 peeps you ready

I needed to do clear liquids for a few days post-op. I drank the Isopure clear read-to-drink fluids; the large bottles have 40g Protein. I figured if I could keep the protein level up, I was less likely to go through a bout of losing a lot of hair.

    Pre-op Diet Troubles

The only thing I can think of is, does the Protein powder container/package have an expiration date? Do the shakes taste good to you? I use unjury and found them to be very palatable.

    gastroparesis and gastric sleeve

I would definitely try to get the surgery and consult done at a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

    Testing pre op?

Same here. Before you know it and wake up, it's over. Not a big deal.

    Question about gene pro.

I can't speak directly on this, but I remember someone on BP saying that it was recommended by Johns Hopkins and was 100% Protein isolate. It that is true, it's good. I use unjury and really like it. I don't feel like I have to choke it down. The taste is very clean, not like medicine at all. By the way, if you like chocolate, their Chocolate Splendor, mixed with sugarless Silk Soymilk + 1 1/2 Tb. malted milk powder tastes just like a real chocolate malt!

    Need some experienced weight losers

Forgot to mention, one particular book helped me, The Emotional First + Aid Kit. It made me more aware of how I was setting up my environment for failure. I got to a point in my 6 months before surgery in which I was steadily losing a little weight without trying (a first for me!). http://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical/dp/0976852659/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1412901760&sr=1-1&keywords=cynthia+alexander If a nearby hospital has regular support groups, you may go there to help yourself stay on the program.

    Need some experienced weight losers

I don't know if the psychiatrists use the DSM V Manual. In the most recent one, there is a diagnostic category for binge eating. There is a medicine that helps with that. I kept myself in check by remembering what it was I was striving for.. "keep your eye on the prize." I didn't want a weight gain to mess this up. For a snack, I ate a small bag of puffed rice cakes. Pre-op, I found that the unjury Protein shakes really helped. They were good tasting, and the flavor could be changed with sugar free syrups (Torani or DaVinci). The flavorings can also be used in sugar free puddings. I suggest you operate from a position of being satisfied with healthy food. Have a Protein shake 20 minutes before eating a meal. Then eat normally, stopping when you feel somewhat satisfied, rather than full. In between meals, you might use recipes from the blog, The World According to Eggface. Best wishes! Be successful!!!

    Any suggestions for calcium supplements?

I believe those are calcium carbonate, not citrate.
  18. So glad to see such improvement AND all the serious health concerns that are now GONE!!!

Got approval and surgery date today!

I suggest getting a good tasting Protein powder, i.e., unjury, sugarless puddings (Target has cheesecake flavored ones)and some good sugar free flavoring syrups to change them up. Keep track of protein and carbs to make sure you're staying within the protein and carb guidelines.

    Pain after surgery

Not too bad... I slept most of the time. Got a little nauseous as the anesthesia wore off. I had surgery on Friday, Sept. 26th. Sunday morning I felt as though nothing had happened! I filled my prescription for pain meds, but didn't need to take any. I suggest asking the doctor to remove the gas used to inflate you to keep the skin away from the surgery. Mine did, so I didn't have any of the gas pains afterwards.
  22. You're in good company here! I drank the Isopure ready-to-drink (RTD) bottles of clear Protein for 3 days after surgery. The large bottles have 40 grams of protein

I'm day 3 post op and IM STARVING!

Were Protein shakes recommended, or clear liquid Protein Shakes recommended for you? For my pre-op diet, for regular protein shakes, the unjury shakes tasted best to me. No off-putting chemical or medicinal taste. Syntrax Nectars also have very good taste reviews. Another important thing is that both these brands are 100% protein isolate, so you absorb the maximum amount of protein from them. There are proteins in some shakes that are not absorbable. However, immediately post-surgery, my doctor said I needed to drink clear liquids for 2 - 3 days after surgery. I had a few bottles of Isopure ready-to-drink (RTD) clear Protein drinks so I could still get my protein. The larger bottles had 40 grams/bottle. I got mine at Vitamin Shoppe. It all depends on what you've been instructed to do. There are lots of variations of instructions among doctors.
  24. They are making your stomach much smaller, so you will feel full a lot sooner. No question it will work for you.

    Full liquids

My favorite was mixing a can of Progresso white clam chowder mixed with a can of chicken bouillon, with the chunks strained out. Something about being warm and salty hit the spot!
