well..maybe there is hope for "real life" meeting someone

@@VSGAnn2014, I agree totally with going places where people share your interests. I suggest checking out http://www.meetup.com You can find groups close to you when you put in your zip code and do searches on your interests.

    Help

I suggest calling your insurance company before you see anyone to see if they require that the surgery be done at a Bariatric Center of Excellence.
  3. @@GAHUNTER, congratulations on sticking it out and being resolved to make this change!. I will also be 65 in around a month. I was sleeved near the end of last September. The only problem I had early on was that I forgot that I couldn't eat and drink at the same sitting and felt uncomfortable. Other than that, I followed the advice given and haven't had any other issues.
  4. I vote for talking about it beforehand. You can't control someone's reaction, but I think that will help. I don't think ignoring an elephant in the room really works. It sounds like she struggles with maintenance which I can understand. Kudos to her that she's been successful!
  5. @@Tssiemer1, I like unjury a lot-- not just the taste. I also like that it is low carb and 100% Protein isolate so all the protein grams advertised are actually absorbed. As far as the texture goes, do you use a blender? My fave recipe is to mix UNJURY chocolate Splendor, SILK unsweetened soy milk, 2 Tb. malted milk powder + (optional) Sweet N' Low. It tastes very close to a chocolate malt!
  6. I just stop getting on the scale for a few weeks... no problem! Just keep on keeping on; it's just a number ( an arbitrary one). Your body is just catching up.

Type 2 diabetes and the sleeve

The scheduler is NOT a doctor! Take it for what it is worth... ZERO!! One study I looked at said that, if you've had diabetes for 4 years or less, most likely, (NOT a guarantee), that your diabetes would go away and not come back. I had diabetes for 4 years and thought I had to take a shot at getting rid of it since my sugars were up to 7.5 and could start affecting my eyes. *Two days* after the sleeve surgery, my diabetes went away. I am just past my one year mark and still don't have it. I don't believe it matters which surgery you get. You're going to lose a lot of weight either way.

    Upset belly

I agree with taking the PPI for at least 2 weeks post surgery. I recently had a few episodes and hate when that happens! I recently went to my surgeon for a one year followup. The problem was that I was eating and drinking too late to get all the Protein and liquids in. He suggested that I stop eating and drinking by 7:00pm. I haven't had any reflux problem after I did that. Good luck!

    So sick...

Prior to bariatric surgery I felt nauseous when I took Vitamins. I later discovered that, if the multi-Vitamin contains Iron, it might upset your stomach if taken on an empty stomach... better to take it with food. I suggest trying that before ditching the vitamins.

How Do You Get Yourself Out the Door to Exercise?

@@*Lexie*, hmmm having difficulty getting dressed. That reminds me of my daughter's solution when she was going to high school. She'd wear her clothes to bed

    Mourning food!

I found that I don't crave the foods I used to. Instead of fun, food became just fuel, so I could eat a little and then be done with it.

    Complete loss of appetite

I just talked to a friend who was sleeved in February. She doesn't track her Protein, and, from what she tells me she eats, it seems unlikely that she is getting the amount of protein we were taught in nutritional classes to get. From a medical standpoint, what actually can happen if you don't get enough protein?

    Calories and protein

Just a reminder... you absorb all of the Protein in protein isolate. Some Proteins can't be absorbed, so you may not actually be getting the advertised # of protein grams. Check out other posts on this.
  14. I'm not aware of chronic abdominal pain being a common complication of sleeve surgery. From the research I've seen, it very low risk. What is the risk of your being whatever weight you are now?

    Calories and protein

@@Smallbites2015, Yeah, that too... sorry, forgot to mention. I often have a (100% Protein isolate) shake if I'm running short on protein for the day. Not a big deal. Do what is healthy that works for YOU. I don't even keep track of calories. The way I look at it, I earned the right not to count those--- DONE with diets! I keep a spreadsheet of 2 columns that automatically total: 1 is protein grams, the other is ounces. Don't stress over hair loss, it'll come back.

    Calories and protein

@@Smallbites2015, I'm 11 months out and I eat similar amounts as you do. I find myself eating, waiting at least a half hour, drinking. Then more waiting and eating pretty much all day. I get the Protein and fluids in, but it takes effort. Do whatever you need to do to get your recommended protein. Sounds like you're doing well!

    Diabetics

I was on Januvia. My A1C was 7.5 prior to surgery. By 2 days post surgery, my diabetes was GONE. My high cholesterol is also history. Very happy!
