    Presurgery weight gain

I suggest asking your NUT or bariatric coordinator whether or not this will make a difference in being approved. I imagine there are different insurance company rules on that.

I Had Plastic Surgery 10-yrs after Bariatric Surgery

You look terrific! Glad to hear of your emotional rebirth too!

    Do you enjoy cooking still?

The first month and a half post-op, I wasn't interested in cooking. Now, I'm getting back to it. I cook the same food for myself as for my family... cuisines of different countries, recipes that use spices for flavor rather than fat. Of course, I eat minimal carbs compared with them. It's nice to have a large variety of food to enjoy.
  4. I take the Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi Vitamin with Iron. It's a capsule, so it slides down very easily and there is no taste. Their caramel calcium citrate chewable are delicious. Might be worth a try.

Will this pass? Is this normal?

Nah, you're FINE! You didn't make a mistake... the best is yet to come. Hope you can get in enough Protein. I drank the Isopure ready-to-drink bottles that had 40 grams in each until I could have the Protein shakes.
  6. Sounds normal to me. Just keep trying to fit in as much as you can. As the swelling goes down, you'll be able to fit more and more.

    Protein

I've only seen UNJURY online. After 3 or 4 days, I was allowed anything I could tolerate. Of course, the same applies to eat or drink slowly and in small amounts at a time.

    The POOPS.....

Everybody's different, but this will go away. Maybe the soup was too thick. If I'm going to have a thick soup, I thin it out with either chicken or beef bouillon. That way I don't inadvertently eat too much too fast.
  9. I'm so glad you are in the hospital... best place to be right now. They'll get it sorted out and you'll feel better and be able to eat. Best wishes!

    Leak Test

It's possible to have had the leak test without drinking anything or being aware of it. I read the surgery report e-mailed to me and found that they pushed the stapled edge into liquid and see if there are any bubbles. I never had to drink anything.

    Fuel to the motivational fire!

I want to make clear from the outset that my comment was/is not meant as a slight of any kind. The bottom line is, it depends upon, as what you define as overweight. For each height, there is an "ideal", an underweight and an overweight. The literature seems to suggest that, within these bounds, there is no major change in health. It is whenever go from overweight to severely obese. Just like Type 2 diabetes, it's a war of attrition. Severe obesity takes a toll on the body over time. I was responding to a woman that is 5' tall and weighs nearly 300 pounds. After several years of carrying nearly 200lbs. of excess weight, blood tests may be fine, but joints will very likely need to be replaced. Our bodies were not designed to carry 150 - 200lb. knapsacks 24/7 without consequences. My husband is from eastern Kentucky and had many relatives that lived past 100 yrs. old. He was consulting with a doctor regarding a hernia operation. The doctor told him that the chances of success would be much improved if he lost some weight. At the time, he weighed 265 and was 5'10" tall. My husband told him that he never had much of an incentive to concentrate on weight reduction because all the blood work etc. was fine. His blood pressure was 105/80, his cholesterol was < 140, heart rate in the mid 60's; he had no abnormalities whatsoever in blood tests. He also shared the fact that he had these relatives that lived to ripe old ages. The doctor smiled and said, "How many of those folks that lived into their 90's and beyond weighed as much as you do?" I reiterate that I think WLS is a great choice for her and wish her the best.
  12. A friend in New York asked me why I would get the sleeve... "They're going to make your stomach look like a S-A-W-sage! After the surgery I mentioned this to the doctor. She said, "Heck no, it's more like a hot dog!"

    Day 10 post op QUESTIONS

This happens to me regularly, so I only weigh once a week or I'd drive myself crazy. For the sliming, I suggest taking small bites and eating more slowly. I think that would help.

    Fuel to the motivational fire!

Glad to hear you are finding your motivation, BUT I would like to hear more self compassion. You aren't healthy right now and are taking steps to fix this. FABULOUS!
  15. Can you go back to your surgeon? Sorry to hear of all these problems. I hope you feel better soon!
  16. Surgery doesn't do it all, but the restriction sure helps a lot. I've found that my tastes have changed and I naturally gravitate towards food that is good for me. Although I eat a little, it feels like I've eaten a big meal. This is not like being on a diet at all. I think if you want continuing and lasting success, changing your relationship with food is the ticket.

Yes, I did, the day of surgery. After that, I was OK if I took small sips.

Surgery Dec12. What should I know?

@@Patti goldsmith, I suggest telling the doctor you would like to get your pain meds through the IV. The nurses tried to give me a really big pill I knew I couldn't get down right after surgery. The other thing is to tell your doctor that you want the gas taken out before surgery ends.

Surgery Dec12. What should I know?

You'll find out if your insurance covers bariatric surgery and, if so, whether or not you meet the criteria. You'll be able to discuss with your doctor which WLS surgery is most appropriate for you. You'll get set up with however many nutrition classes your insurance requires. It's important not to miss one because you may have to start over. You'll learn about Protein shakes and Vitamins so you can get and stay healthy.

    Clearance

What reason was given? Did the doctor say you would be cleared after a certain period of time?

    Fatty Liver Disease

I have fatty liver. My surgeon said that 3 - 4 months from surgery, it should go away. I think your primary doctor needs to interpret the blood test results. I hope everything resolves OK in the long term.

    No energy

I felt the same way in the beginning. Instead of a full workout, how about walking as you're able to?
