Protein Powder at Trader Joes
BeagleLover replied to blackbean's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I tried the Trader Joe's vanilla... once. It was awful. It had a medicinal taste. I only drink unjury shakes now. -
No, I'm only a bit over 3 months out. Congratulations on your 90 lb. weight loss! You can do this, just go back to basics.

What to expect right after surgery?
BeagleLover replied to JerseyJules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember feeling fuzzy the day of surgery (a Friday morning) and the next day, probably from the pain meds they administered through the IV. I didn't feel any pain from the surgery. Whenever I wet my mouth, I got the pain behind the breastbone feeling. They just gave me my fluids by IV. I didn't have any gas pains because my doctor removed the gas before closing me up. By the Sunday morning, I felt as though nothing had happened. I got my prescription for pain meds in case I'd need some, but I didn't even need one. -
Egads! Glad you went to the ER!

Flavor enhancers for water
BeagleLover replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My favorite low cal drink is Ocean Spray DIET flavors. -
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having such trouble! I don't think any of us are in a position to know. I suggest you stick with your primary doctor and bariatric surgeon to get to the bottom of this to help you feel better soon. Please keep us up-to-date.

@dad77 No need to worry... just do your best and you'll get to the amount you need.

14 months out and realllly struggling
BeagleLover replied to kyleebean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@kyleebean What is NOT working in your life? -
I take Bariatric Advantage Multi Vitamins with Iron at lunch time and Calcium citrate in the morning and evening. Every other day I take a B-12 Vitamin (from Trader Joe's) under my tongue. I haven't had any problems with my vitamin levels or how I feel.

Gagging through protein shake
BeagleLover replied to DroppinLikeItsHot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After a few bad experiences trying other brands, I use unjury exclusively now... no aftertaste and have a good clean flavor. I add sugar free syrups to vary the flavor. -
For me it was neither painful nor difficult. After two days it almost seemed like nothing had happened.

@@allyray, does your surgeon give informational seminars? Maybe you can go with them. They can ask all the questions they want.

As I see it, it's not complicated: count 60 - 80 grams of Protein and at least 64 oz. liquids per day. Look on the blog, "The World According to Eggface" for some tasty protein meals and treats (including ice cream!). I think that, if you keep it tasty and interesting, it's no problem to stick to the good stuff. I suggest the book "Emotional First Aid" by Cynthia Alexander (the bariatric one). It's really helped me.

@@dad77, who said you can't have pizza!!! I did a search on the blog, The World According to Eggface, that you can use. I'm sure you can make many variations. Shelly's BBQ chicken Tortilla pizza - Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat Fajita Size Tortilla topped with 1-2 teaspoons BBQ Sauce, shredded cooked Chicken (leftover rotisserie is great), sauteed Red Onions & Mushrooms, fresh chopped Tomatoes, sprinkle of Cheddar cheese. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2009/11/tortilla-pizza-time.html I used a Mission Brand Carb Balance Whole Wheat 6" Fajita Size Tortilla, leftover chicken (it was leftover Chicken Marsala), a little alfredo sauce, a slice of provolone, sauteed mushrooms and pancetta and a liberal snowfall of parmesan. Pancetta is Italian bacon but you could definitely substitute regular cooked crumbled bacon. This is a seriously yummy way to transform chicken leftovers. I also made a very Traditional Tomato & Basil version topped with tomato sauce, provolone, sliced tomato, Italian seasoning and fresh basil. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/10/watch-out-pizza-hut-look-out-papa-john.html The other night I topped one with sliced turkey meatballs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, Italian seasoning and fresh basil. Directions: Place the tortilla on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Top with toppings. Bake at 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes till the tortilla is crisp and the toppings are bubbly. These Tortilla Pizzas are very family friendly. A little former teacher hint: children will eat anything thing they have a hand in preparing. I had kids eating all sorts of things they made in my class and Mom's saying, "OMG she would never eat that if I gave it to her." It really was just because they took part in the process. How fun it would be to have the kids help brainstorm and prep different toppings (using new vocabulary: dice, saute, grate), design their own creative masterpiece (tomato eyes, olive nose, red pepper lips) then slice them up for a fraction lesson. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2010/04/put-lime-in-coconut.html Shelly's Margaritaville Protein Mini Muffins 3/4 cup Spelt Flour 1/2 cup vanilla Protein powder 1/4 cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut 1 teaspoon Baking Powder dash of Salt 1/2 cup Cottage Cheese (I used pineapple Cottage Cheese) 1/2 cup Pineapple Chunks, well drained 3 Tablespoons sugar free Torani Syrup (I used SF Vanilla) 1 Egg, beaten Topping 1 Tablespoon Unsweetened Shredded Coconut 1 teaspoon Sugar Free Lime Jello Powder, dry 4 Macadamia Nuts, crushed Preheat oven to 350. Whiz in a mini food processor cottage cheese and pineapple till smooth.

2 weeks to go, and I am really nervous...
BeagleLover replied to JerseyJules's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I suggest playing it by ear, depending on how you feel. You can always go to the gym when you're feeling up to it. -

Comparison: VSG to C section?
BeagleLover replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had 2 C-sections. I felt a little nauseous coming out of the anesthesia which is normal. I didn't feel any pain from the surgery or the gas since it had been removed. By the third day, it felt almost as though nothing had happened. The VSG was a cake walk for me. -
Newbie Rant...This waiting game is killing me!
BeagleLover replied to New_Me_2015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome! Sounds like you're not going to have a long wait time! -
My husband and I go to a gym on weekday mornings. We worked it out with our neighbor to pick her up each morning. We all have a tendency to "laze out". This way, each of us is waiting for the other to go. Works out well.

Congratulations on losing so much! Could it be that they noticed, but don't want to intrude?

I suggest he see a therapist.

Right! I get them by the case at costco.
