Anyone not have to do 6 months w/BC BS PPO?
jsp replied to Mrsace13's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BCBS of MA. Before I even picked out a doctor, I checked with my insurance company to see what the requirements were. They even sent me their entire policy on WLS. I didn't have to do 6 months. The staff for the doctor I picked out kept telling me that I had to have 6 months. I sent them the policy and told them exactly what they said. But they were very rude and not helpful at all. I called my insurance company and asked them to put it in writing - that they do not require 6 months. They did it and were very helpful. I went to another doctor and in no time I had my surgery date scheduled. So my advice is, to have the actual policy sent to you and if they will write a letter stating they don't need 6 months - get it!! And find a new doctor!! -
I have Blue Cross of MA but live in Texas. I picked out a surgeon and was hoping to start the process but was told that I needed a 5 year history to document my obesity. I had already checked with my insurance and they sent me a copy of their medical policy dealing with WLS. I met all of the requirements. Nothing in their medical policy said anything about getting a 5 year history (which I don't have). The surgeon's office said that since I live in Texas, they have to follow the guidelines of Texas, not Mass. Has anyone else had this problem of living in a state different than their insurance (i.e., Texas vs. Mass.). I don't know what the BCBS of Texas guidelines are. I'm at my wits end and don't know what to do. Any thougts??

My doctor is Dr. Joseph Kuhn at Baylor. I would definitely recommend him.

The first few days were no fun at all. Yesterday I started to feel human again. This morning I woke up and feel really good. I still have the port incision issue that hurts when I sit up. But other than that, I'm really surprised at how good I feel. Plus I'm down 9 lbs!

I was banded yesterday (12/31) and feeling ok. I'm not having the gas pains, though I know they will probably hit me later! My throat has been really dry and sore because of the breathing tube. I was going to have Dr. Colleen Kennedy at Baylor perform the surgery, but due to an insurance issue, Dr. Joseph Kuhn at Baylor performed the surgery. Dr. Kuhn was very nice. He is very caring and he really impressed my sister and me. I would definently recommend either doctor!

I was banded this morning and am home. The only pain is around my port area, and its not really that bad. Haven't experienced the gas pains (yet!). I have a question about the post-op liquid diet. I had bought some Dannon Light and Fit smoothies (sugar free, etc.) I had never had them before. I had about a 1/3 of the bottle shortly after I came home from the hospital. It seemed ok - no seeds or chunks of fruit. Then I opened up a 2nd bottle, and had a few sips and it had seeds and very small chunks. I want to make sure that I didn't do anything bad to my pouch. Does anyone know? Also, totally forgot about the no drinking water! I didn't drink while eating, but forgot about the 30 minutes before/after. My throat is so dry and a little sore from the breathing tube, so i've been trying to drink as much Water as I can today. Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks!
