  1. I've done well on my pre-op diet but it is 4-weeks long which has been challenging since I must attend company meetings and dinners. When I say sorry, I'm not hungry I get these odd looks. I can't tell them why I'm on this special diet. To sit at a dinner and order Water with lemon is sometimes embarrassing, while everyone else is eating. Also, my family has plenty to celebrate with so many milestones this year. I don't want them to miss out on any of it, so, I've found myself ordering the usual water with lemon. I'm not really hungry because I usually have my shake before going so it's bearable but it feels awkward. I wish I could just hid out until I am able to eat a little bit. Soup, salad, veggies, I love veggies! I suppose I could order those, but I'm always worried about how it's prepared. I'm trying to shrink my liver here!! arrggghhh, just frustrated today. Had to let that out. Thanks Bariatric Pals for listening. Anyone out there experienced the same love to hear from you.
  2. SherB, I wish that would be the case for me. BUT, I also see it as training for after surgery when we are on liquids only. There's been many battles of the head hunger thing people talk about. I've won all battles thus far. Best wishes on your healthful journey!
  3. Thanks, I feel back to normal today. I was just so frustrated having to obligatorily sit at restaurants with Water in front of me. Those meals felt loooong. The amily thing is easy to handle, just hate the pitiful faces people give me. Also the guilt some people feel to eat in front of me, when my fare is limited. BUT back to the business of getting healthy!! 11 more days for me. YAY!
  4. Hi, my surgery date is May 19th. Wishing you a 1st letter approval and good health!

Not doing well at all :(

"...£5000 dent in my bank balance" - as you pointed out this is costly both time and money. It's an investment in oneself. whatever brought you to making the decision to have the surgery in the first place must be your foundation for moving forward with the commitment. Yes, life gets in the way, some of us may be emotional eaters but you did well the first two weeks. You have to take that gumption and roll with it. I have not had the surgery yet, but I have been on the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and have another 2 weeks to go. Everyday, when I am down and hungry (I least I think I am or be it head hunger) I look at all of my photos and see that very unhappy person who wants to live a better life. I fill my day with activities that wont allow myself thoughts of food. I only keep what I need such as shakes and Soups - not too appealing or dangerous. Elaine, I wish you much luck and wellness!

    Veggie Spaghetti

I was thinking of how to make things a little more dazzling and remembered Gefu Spirelli Spiral Slicer that was on the Dr. Oz show so I ordered it. Can't wait for it to arrive. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Pre op diet

When on the pre op our weight will go up and down on some days. I wouldn't weigh myself everyday. Some days you may be retaining Water. If you are a slow loser that's ok, you're probably losing in inches, instead of LBS.

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

My surgery is May 19th. super excited and nervous. I honestly didn't notice how heavy I had gotten until I started having medical issues almost a year ago. I did things most "normal sized" people do without any shame. I wonder how different will I feel when I am 50, 60,100 pounds lighter.

    One Week Later

What a horrific ordeal you went through but by the good graces you are alive and getting better. My best girlfriend is on her way to getting banned. I wonder if the doctors told her about the warning signs of complications. Did you have regular check-ins where the banned was assessed? It is great that you are trying to stick to a healthful lifestyle even without the band. Hopefully, you had enough time to condition your body and mind to continue your success. Keep us posted on what the doc says. Best of all things wonderful to you. Lorri

    Pre op diet

I have four weeks of the pre-op diet. At first I freaked out because, I had anticipated a later date. BUT very excited to get started. No time for last favorite meals. My pre-op diet started next day. Talk about ripping the bandage!! Had to spend my evening searching and buying Protein Shakes, shaker, etc. I'm on week 2, fifth day. First few days, I thought how can I do this for four weeks, no way but then I decided to take it a day at a time. Just focus on each meal (shake) and nothing more. I have to be honest they are pretty sickening, but you have to get inventive. Since I like cold things I've frozen some of my Protein shakes and used them as a snack/treat. For coffee taste, I put instant decaf, in my vanilla shakes. I have also roasted up some mean veggies (allowed to cups) with a little balsamic. Veggie Soups work too. I don't sit at the dinner table but do feed my family. I read, clean -- distractions are the best. Our journey has begun! down 18 pounds, not easy, lots of talking to self, reading other people's post help so much. Wishing you all comfort and success!
  13. Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum. Just got my surgery date for May and insurance approval on Friday The surgery coordinator said I had to follow a four-week pre-op liquid diet. She said this was a new requirement. I checked many forums and WLS materials all said 2-weeks. Anyone else required 4 weeks instead of 2?

    Four-Week Pre-op Diet?

Hi! I live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have a surgery date of May 28th and am already on the liquid diet. For my surgeon it is a 4 week thing, I was just told early when I was having the surgery done, so they suggested I go ahead and start. For me it's Glucerna, and Water, or flavoured water. That's it. I'm losing about a pound a day. I'm not finding it difficult. I think it's my thought that it's just a warm up for the real way I will be eating...it makes it easier. awesome Victoria! I just started mine yesterday, not doing so bad myself. I can't get the right amount of Protein shakes down. Have only been able to stomach 1.5 shakes of the shake I like, but water is fantastic. Today, I did better and predict I will continue. Wishing you a smooth surgery!

    Four-Week Pre-op Diet?

It turns out, it is prescribe for my BMI of 51. They like me to loose at least 12-15 pounds before the surgery. Day one has started. Not enjoying any of the Protein shakes I bought. Heading out to buy different ones tonight.
