I had my Lap band over 2 years ago and through life's struggles with taking care of my elderly mother who had cancer 6 months after my surgery, everything got off track. I now take two bites, have to throw up and then usually am able to get a few more bites down. I am Diabetic, on medicines, my sugar gets too low and then I eat sugar. I am so depressed and I don't know what to do anymore. I found a support group I am going to try in December. I would appreciate anybody's help. I feel like such a failure. NJB-FW

NJ-FW, surgery date 9-28-07
I have lost 40 lbs but I am struggling with how much I should really eat.
-
Tracy, I had surgery 9-28-07 and have lost 40 lbs. I have 5 units of restriction and have to eat slowly. When I get the pressure in my chest, the doctor says that I have taken one bite too many. Sometimes when the feeling goes away, I continue to eat. If I eat the drum part of a wing and I get the pain, I don't think I have eaten enough. How much should I be eating before I quit? If it hurts a lot, is it ok to sip a little Water to make the hurt stop? What I was used to eating and my head are having a little trouble understanding I have eaten enough for my body. I am a little confused about how many bites I should be eating. Can anyone of you help me?

LapBand Food Stages Lists Suggestions

Thanks sweet lady for writing all this down for us. Nancy-FW -
Hi, When I went in for my surgery, they said I had a Hiatal Hernia the size of a grapefruit. They had to stitch up the hernia before they put the lap band on because they said the lap band would have fallen into my chest cavity. My gerd is gone. I don't know why your surgeon can't do the same for you while they are in there. My neighbor had her lap band last week and she also had an esophegeal hernia, and they fixed hers too. I don't blame you for not wanting bypass. Stick to your guns or find another surgeon. Good luck! NB-FW

weight gain while in the hospital?
NJB-FW replied to ernurse12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I lost 14 lbs on the pre-diet, but I gained 14 lbs while in the hospital. I looked like I was pregnant, but it was all the IV fluids, and lots of gas I lost in the first week home. I was banded 9-28 and have lost 28 lbs so far and am thrilled. You will be glad you did this. Good luck! NJB-FW -
I was banded October 28th and couldn't burp until last weekend. It gets better. I am beginning to eat too much though. I will be glad when I get my first fill in November. NJB-FW

Has anyone experienced a hematoma by the port site?
NJB-FW replied to lfrarck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I was banded 9-28 and when I get out of bed, I get a sharp pain where my port is. Does anyone else get that? Also, I had a huge hiatal hernia and it had to be repaired before they could do the lap band. I am on day 10, and I am still swollen and have abdominal pain. Njb-ft -
Hi all, I had my surgery on the 28th. My stomach is finally going down from all the saline I guess, but getting up and down from the bed and sometimes from chairs really hurts around my port area. Is that normal? NJB-FW:help:

Post-op: How long until you progressed to solid food?
NJB-FW replied to Constance's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dear Cindyn: I am having my surgery this Friday, 28th and am so excited. I am glad to hear that you are doing well. I hope I do well. I have done well on the pre-diet. I wanted to tell you something my Phychologist told me. She said, the band is a tool. If we had to dig a hole, we would use a shovel not our hands. All we have to do to be successful is to make up our mind to use this tool so we will BE SUCCESSFUL! not if, maybe, WE WILL!. WE EITHER DECIDE WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS OR GO BACK BEING MISERABLE FAT. This has helped me through the pre-op diet. I hope this advice helps you too! I guess I am so ready for this journey. I threw my fat clothes magazines away, because I am not buying one more fat outfit. Nancy FTW -
I am so proud of you! I love to cook and bake too and that has been a concern for me. I am on the low carb pre-diet for 2 weeks and will have surgery the 9-28. I haven't cheated and have made a firm comittment to do this for my health. I am so excited and looking forward to feeling better. I have Diabetes and so hoping that life will be filled with more energy. You are doing so well. If you can do it, we can all do it!
