  1. @@RSM 79 I am so sorry you are feeling down. You are only one month out and need to realize you've only just had surgery and your body is adjusting to all the changes. Please don't give up. Your son needs you, now and in the future. Your wife and son WILL NOT be better off without you. Please take each day one at time and if need be one hour at a time. It will get better. You can do this. Promise me you will keep trying. Call your doctor and tell how you are feeling. In the mean time, start a topic of your own and you will receive lots of support. I believe in you and am praying for you. Email me any time. I will be watching for your topic. Share on this forum and get some support. Hugs. Joy

    License to eat- interesting problem

I don't have WLS experience in this but have experienced this with other diets. Many times during a stall I've added calories and the weight would come off. Lucky you to be able to follow your plan and doctors instructions and still eat 1200 to 1700 calories a day. Not sure how to add healthy mushy calories. Hopefully a veteran will answer this. Good Luck!

    Gain weight to qualify?

My doc and nut says insurance goes by starting weight. Have you been losing since February or did you start the process 19 lbs too little? It would be a shame to have to gain 19 pounds just to qualify. Since you've been in the process for so long maybe submit the paperwork and cross your fingers? Try an appeal if denied. You can always try to gain if you have no other choice. The insurance process is so frustrating. Every company has different rules. My insurance requires two co-morbidities that can't be controlled with medication or 40 BMI. The worst part is you have to jump through all kinds of hoops and then they can still deny coverage. I think they brainstorm ways to deny coverage. I have to show a weight loss for six months (10 pounds) with no gains. If I show a gain, I have to start the six months over. The RN says don't go below 35. The NUT says follow a 1200 calorie plan. I have to walk this fine line for 4 1/2 more months. We shouldn't have to play these silly games with our health. Whatever happens good luck. Please keep us posted.
  6. Hoping for the best. Please update when you can.

    questions...

Hopefully you can find out before closing hours today. There's not much worse than getting a message like that before a weekend. Probably nothing major so don't stress yourself out. We'll hope for the best. Good Luck!

    I didnt want to lie...

I am only on month 2 of my 6 month supervised diet. I don't plan to tell anyone but my mother. I have lost 60 to 80 pounds in 6 months several times and gained it back plus more. When the ask, as they always do, I am going to tell them the truth. I have given up soda, cut out processed foods and focus most of my calories on getting Protein. All true. My health and medical information is mine to share or not share. Let people wonder and think what ever they choose. All that matters is how you feel about it.
  10. I'm so sorry you have this problem. I would suggest typing "splenic infarction" in the search box to see if any thing pops up. If nothing there, try google. Good Luck. I hope it resolves soon.
  11. I'm not an expert but I have been told your body needs fuel to operate properly. if you don't get enough calories your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to the excess weight. Eating enough Protein will help your body keep muscle and lose fat. My doc and nut insist I make protein the priority. I have to complete a 6 month monitored weight loss before surgery so I have quite a wait ahead of me but getting the protein in is helping me to not feel hungry.

    HELP! Losing motivation

Congrats on 150 lbs lost! That is awesome. Some suggestions: Brush your teeth, drink some Water, take a walk, take a bubble bath, take a nap, clean out a drawer, sweep the floor, wash a window, do some online shopping, start a topic on how wonderful it is to have lost a whole person. You must feel great, look great, have more energy. Just put down the food and tell us all the wonderful things you can do now that you've lost 150 pounds. Good Luck!
  15. I use My Fitness Pal on my iphone. It is a very nice tool. Sometimes I can't believe how many food items are in the data base. Yesterday I had a really bad day and at the end of the day when I pressed "finished logging for today", it said (not exact wording) if you continue to eat the way you did today in six weeks you will weigh 245. That's a gain of 7 pounds! I really think the app will help. You program how much you want to loose and it will tell you how many calories to eat to achieve that goal. It even calculates sodium, carbs, fat etc. Hang in there. You're almost there. Maybe try a couple Protein shakes each day and one healthy meal. Stay positive and remember everything you're doing will help with your recovery and your total pounds lost. Good Luck.

    First Nutrition Counseling Session

I know how you feel. I'm anxious to start losing but I don't see the nut until next week and don't think she will put me on a weight loss plan yet. The doc wants me to start slow and incorporate good habits so I will be able to keep the weight off after I lose it. I'm supposed to practice chewing until the food is applesauce consistency. I find that difficult to do. I usually just inhale food or swallow it whole. I have lost 60 - 80 pounds several times and gained it back plus more. Even with the sleeve the weight will come back if we revert to old habits. Good luck to you.

    6 mo doctor approved diet

BTW - I just looked closer at the 1200 calorie diet plan the doc gave me. The American Diabetes Association and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics are listed on the front cover.

    6 mo doctor approved diet

Hi. Just started my 6 month medically supervised diet yesterday. My doctor told me he wanted me to just start slow and to work on a couple of habits. He wants me to build proper eating habits so I will have the tools to fight back when my body inevitably wants to gain back the weight I loose. I'm supposed to start tracking on My Fitness Pal and to practice chewing until each bite is the consistency of applesauce. He would like me to loose 10 pounds. He said he wouldn't be putting me on a strict 1200 calorie diet but that is the diet included in my packet and on the written instruction sheet. I'm assuming the 1200 calorie diet is the standard they give to every patient. I've never had a problem losing, just keeping it of. If I stick to a 1200 calorie diet for 6 months I won't meet the critera for surgery. I'm seeing the NUT next week so I will ask then. I signed up for the My Fitness Pal and it is so easy to use. It's fun to see the numbers tally up. I would ask why your PCP thinks a diabetic diet is best for you. Usually there is a reason and if not that is your opportunity to discuss other options. Best of luck to you on your journey.
