Hi Texgirly, I'm also from Texas and only 9 days post op. I'll be curious to hear how you do with other Mexican foods. It has not hit me yet, but I know it will eventually - you know what I'm talking about - the overwelming craving for Mexican food! It's always been my comfort food and one of the first things I have after traveling outside Texas for any length of time. Ceviche sounds soooo good right now.... Cheers!

That's great! I need to buy a new scale. I haven't used the one I have in so long and just realized it does not work anymore. I'll find out my current weight tomorrow when I go in for my follow up. I don't feel like I've really lost more than a couple of pounds, but I put on a shirt to go to the baseball game last night and was surprised at how much better it fit than when I wore it last spring. Cheers!

I can't wait to hear about your dinner parties and menus! Keep us posted. Cheers!

Thanks kbinaz! That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Cheers!

I'm so excited about grits and soup today! Still some lingering gas - but nothing like it was. I've had no pain around the incisions or port. The incisions must be healing because they are starting to itch a little. I go for my follow up on Thursday but so far, so good. Cheers!

I'm really sad that all that sounds great to me right now...I'm still on week one liquids. I really don't like all these pre-fab, processed protein shakes. Yuk! I'll be looking for suggestions on mushy food soon.... Cheers!

Hi Aquameliza - fortunately I did not have to go on a pre-op diet. The time between insurance approval and scheduling my surgery on April 1 was so short and full of work travel that I really did not have time to plan the big feast. It did cross my mind....but I think not having time to dwell on it was better for me. I had some misgivings over the weekend prior to the surgery but managed to talk myself off the ledge and go through with it. So far, so good - I am looking for reassurance from the other foodies that I can still enjoy food and wine since that is what I do for a living. Of course, all that will be in very small amounts..... Cheers!

Hello Mamakatken - glad to hear you are doing great. I'm also an April Fool Avenger. I'm feeling great except for some lingering gas pain but it is so much less today. I was surprised how much easier it was to get that first Protein drink down this morning. I'm surprised you are trying pudding cups already? I'm still on thin liquids. I'll start thicker liquids on Wednesday. I only took two days sick time off. I work out of my house when not traveling, so that makes it easier. Cheers!

Hi Taz - I think you misunderstood - I DON'T feel guilty about leaving food on the plate. The only reason I wouldn't stop eating is because I like it so much. When I stop to realize I am full/satisfied I have no problem leaving the food - that's why I never take a to-go box even when I'm dining in my hometown. I think I had a bigger stigma about being the fat chick carrying food out than I did about waste or the starving children in China. Cheers!

I'll be asking my surgeon that very question during our follow up meeting later this week. I'm in the wine business and while I can do these two weeks without drinking wine, eventually I intend to get back to my average 1 glass per day. My doctor knows this about me and the only concern was the number of calories I would be comsuming in wine. I'll have to adjust for this because I'm not giving up wine!

Air in your tissues?
Winegoddesstx replied to Eiramana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on April 1 and I'm still having some strong, sporadic gas pains. I have not taken anything for it and I probably should be walking more, but it has been a little better each day. Cheers! -
I can't wait to hear about all the above as well!

Hi Taz - I love all those foods as well. I won't be doing any to go boxes - I'm usually working and on the road when I'm in these restaurants and taking stuff out with me is just not practical. I don't have a problem with leaving food on the plate because it seems wasteful - my problem has been cleaning the plate because I like it! When you are on the road 3-4 days a week and dining in some of the best restaurants, this becomes a problem.

I'm glad to have other foodies to talk with....I know this won't be easy, but eventually its got to be reasonable? Cheers!

I've also read both of those Kurlansky books - he wrote another calle "A Basque History of The World" - fascinating and has recipes. Cheers!

Hello fellow Avengers, I had my surgery on April 1 with Dr. Speigel in Houston. TX. I was originally scheduled for Mar 28, but had to reschedule the night before ( a very long story involving my laptop being stolen in the San Antonio airport and missing the last flight back to Houston that night....). I was lucky they had an opening the following Tuesday. I must admit, I had many misgivings over the last week leading up to my surgery. I'm a serious foodie - it's an integral part of my personal and professional life. I'm in the wine business and I spend a good deal of time in great restaurants and traveling around a 5 state area. From everything I've read while lurking on these boards and researching for the last 6 months, it seems I should eventually be able to eat "normal" foods in much reduced quantities, and with lots of chewing. My surgery went well despite the surprise hiatal hernia that needed to be repaired at the same time. Oh, well.... I've had no nausea, and only a little pain late the same day of surgery. The gas pain however, is pretty strong but getting better. Who knew that gas pain shoots up through your shoulder? I sure didn't. I probably should be out walking more, but I'm trying to catch up on work stuff. I won't start travelling again for another week at which point I should be on mushy food. I have to say, I can't wait to get off these pre-packaged drinks - yuk! Organic broth is the highlight of my day because it is the only thing savory on the list of liquids and tastes like real food. I'm looking forward to a thinner and more active me. I was very active into my mid thirties and would like to be so again. I'd like to not be miserable 6 times a week getting on and off airplanes. I want to be more comfortable when I fly to Italy in June for vacation. How my butt fits in the airplane seat will be my biggest weight loss barometer. I go for my one week follow up on Thursday, so I'm sure I'll have an update then. Best wishes to everyone with your upcomming surgery!

I am also a foodie. Since the last reply on this thread was some time ago, I thought I'd try to refresh it and see how the other foodies are doing with the lap band. I am 4 days post-op and suffering through the franken-food liquid diet drinks. I'm praying that I will be able to eat normal whole & healthy foods in the future - just less of them. I am in the wine business, so great food and wine is a large part of my life. Cooking and entertaining is also a big part of my personal social life. In the final days leading up to my surgery I had many doubts flickering through my mind about how I was going to handle the dietary restrictions. Needless to say, I overcame the doubts and went ahead with the surgery but I'd like to hear how other foodies are doing months after surgery. Cheers!

1-Day Post Op-need encouragement
Winegoddesstx replied to wickman2617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, How long should I expect the gas pains to hang around? My only complication during surgery on April 1 was a hiatal hernia I did not know about. They fixed that and were able to put the lap band on. I'm feeling fine other than some pretty intense gas pains up through my shoulder today. Cheers! -
Those of you that drink alcohol
Winegoddesstx replied to PrincessChey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Greetings posters! I have been researching the forum because I am considering the lapband. One of my concerns involves food and wine. I am in the wine business, and I travel and entertain customers in restaurants constantly. I have at least one glass of wine every day. I think I can manage the limits on food - I can certainly reduce the amount of wine I consume, but part of what I do for a living is talk about how wine goes WITH food. Is it going to be impossible to drink my wine with the meal? Will the lapband change how things taste to me? Also, I travel weekly for my work - how soon do you think I can be back at work and travelling? Thanks for your time.
