A little help from an experienced cook please?
TerriBarri replied to guinessgirl77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You should go to the food network. I like getting my high protien from shakes and high protien meal bars. I try not to eat mayonnaise because of the high calories. I would rather eat the eggs, chicken and tuna by themselves with some veggies then add extra calories with mayo and I have not seen a good recipe for egg/chicken/tuna salad that does not contain the mayo. Besides my doc said no bread, so I don't eat bread. But I know that Rachel Ray on the food network has a few. Sorry Im not much help. -
Only my husband and mother know about me. Don't care for anyone else to know my business. At first it was because I thought I was taking the easy way out with the band. Little did I know it is not the easy way out. But I at this point I plan to take it to my grave. I do not think it is anyones business to know and I certainly do not want anyone tracking my progress and watching what I eat, making comments, etc.

What do you tell people at work
TerriBarri replied to ghostbuster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Only my husband and my mother know about the band. The rest I just told I was having a hernia repaired which was true. And before the surgery I played up the diet thing when people asked why I was eating so much salad. I just keep telling them that I'm trying to take it off not put it on.........they seem to repect that and leave me alone. I work in the field so I don't go into the office expect twice a month for meetings. I thought it would be harder to hide from family but actually no one has noticed that I eat less. I did have a bit of a problem after my first fill, I did not know I could only have liquids for the 2 days. I got my fill on a friday and we had plans to go to the lake house with friends that weekend. I stopped and got some chicken broth and told them that I heard if you drink broth before a meal you'll eat less. I even fixed my plate with real food and because they were all drinking they never noticed me chewing it up and spitting into my hand and tossing it into the woods. My husband and I had a big laugh on the way home. He promised to never take me to a fancy restaurant for fear I might throw my food under the table............ : ) ~ Gosh that was funny. -
Hey Beka, Look at me, I've only lost 18lbs in almost 3months. My first 6lbs I lost post op, my 1 month visit I was still at the 6lbs. I started recording all my food and exercise on myfooddiary.com and now have a better understanding where the calories are coming from. I go for my second fill this week and hope to get at least a smile from my doctor. But the way I see it, if Im not gaining I'm happy. Give it time and you will see.

I had my surgery on a Friday and had originally planned to go back on the following Monday but my supervisor told me to take another day which I was very glad to do. By Tuesday I was fine just a little worried about bumping my stomach (still tender around the port). The only problem I really had was week #2/3 when the gas pain started shooting into my shoulder after I ate my mushie food. I inspect Subway restaurants and would leave and walk up and down the sidewalk hoping to ease the pain. Walking did nothing for me. I learned that laying down for about 10 minutes did the trick and the pain would leave me. So I started carring a pillow in my truck so I could go out and just lay down till it past. I actually started back on solid food a couple of days early and the pain went away. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

My doctor said only liquids (or crush it up *yuk*) ~ tylenol does come in a liquid form. Anytime I eat sliced turkey or even chicken from a can it gets stuck. I'm guessing its because it's dry. I am careful to chew it up but it does not seem to mater. I don't know for sure but its about trial and error as everyone is different.

Sherry your the best, it does explain alot. I did not ask a lot of questions because I did not know what questions to ask. I did not do much research before the band surgery, I just knew I wanted it. I did not even know there was website like this until I became frustrated with my slow losing and finally called the office and asked about support groups (never really been into face to face support groups), I've only been a member for 2 days and have been hooked. I keep this link sitting on my tool bar and fell like a junky now. I think everyone on here may know more then the doctor's : ) ~ Again, thanks so much.

I was just curious about the saline that is put into the band and how many band size's there are. I'm only been doing this since June and thought there was only one size. I guess I'm really interested in once your band is filled to capacity and why do you have to keep going back to get a fill. I never really thought to ask the doctor. Thanks I appreciate your help
