  1. Glad you brought up hernia surgery. I had hernia surgery a couple of years ago and haven't healed well. I wondered if that would have any bearing on whether or not I could be banded...guess I need to just take that first step and talk to the doctor.

    Liquid Vitamins ????

:lightbulb:I'm not banded, standing on the edge thinking I'm going to be serious about dieting for another month before I take the leap, and I wanted to share something that has happened to me. I've had aches, pains, doctor visits of all sorts over the past year because of horrible hip and leg pain, knots in my legs, hardly able to walk, etc. Endured PT, nueology, rhematic dr, private trainer, Chiropractor, acupuncture, etc...no diagnosis, except myofacial pain and absolutely no relief. I know I'm allergic to soy which is a big component to most shelf type diet drinks. I know I have an asmatic type reaction to things fried in canola oil, have allergies to yellow dye and something called balsam of peru which is a flavoring ingredient making me allergic to - Crest and Coalgate toothpaste (gives me immediate hives)!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I need Protein, get my nutrients, Fiber, protien and above all not overeat...Starting this past weekend I have concocted my own smoothies and I think my own RX has made the biggest difference!!!! 1/2 c whole milk (H@LL with worrying about that little bit of fat), heaping teaspoon of psyllium husks (unflavored Konsyl found at Walgreen/Walmart), table spoon of liquid Centrum, heaping teaspoon of Vegan Rice Protein (Nutribiotic found at Whole Foods), 1 pkg of liptons green tea (the thin packet like you add to Water bottles) provides the sweetening and of course frozen fruit - especially peaches, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries. Blend and drink for Breakfast and evening. Tastes like a fruit based milk shake. If the fruit is fresh add ice before blending. The nasty taste of Centrum is muted, the psyllium and rice protein have no flavor and the fruits sweetened with the green tea extract are great!!! BUT MOST OF ALL NO LEG PAIN and :car: since Sunday morning!!!! I admire you all for taking action and grasping good health through banding to accomplish weight loss. I urge you to sincerely think about issues relating to allergies, including soy (creates a false estrogen and water retention), flavor and color additives, canola oil - google it! FOR ME I REALLY THINK THE KEY IS THE LIQUID CENTRUM AND ADDING MISSING Vitamins AND MINERALS BACK INTO MY BODY!!! My endocrinologist also recently checked my Vitamin D (related to thyroid removal) and I had none in my body - note this is made by sunlight and intake from food. I can't wait to see what I accomplish in the next few weeks. Thanks for letting me share....hoping for a lotta less lbs PS I'm not sure about bandsters using psyllium.
  3. Hi I'm new to the board and have been browsing all morning, researching Dr.'s in the Dallas area, what to expect, etc. I haven't been banded but I'm seriously considering it. I'm curious about the adhesion thing. I had gall bladder surgery in 2000 and a subsequent surgery in 2003 to repair the hernia created from the gall bladder surgery (herniated where they pull the gall bladder out of the belly button). The hernia patch and the adhesions from both surgeries have hurt ever since - I've been told that it's all normal - even had an ultrasound of the belly area. I'm 212 @ 5'3" with an apron an excess weight. I really want to lose weight. After reading the posts I'm wondering, did any one else get to this jumping off the diving board point and think - well- maybe I could constrict myself and try imposing liquid Proteins on myself...but then the old other voice of reason pipes up and says - whatta ya mean?? you've been working on this for a couple of decades and ya still haven't lost - just take the leap - one more surgery - this one to prevent additional problems like type II diabetes, bum knees, etc. 45 minute to 4 hour procedure??? Adhesions, port problems....OK y'all - tell me if I jump I won't regret it!!!

Thank you - you've cited all the reason I should DO IT NOW. I'm going to be a grandma in January. Legs and knees hurt, etc, etc. Do you have any thoughts or had correspondence with anyone with other local surgeons?

    Length of surgery

    Congratulations - and thanks Dave.
  6. How long did Benavides say you would be "out of commission"?
