My surgery is April 28th at 10:30 am. I thought the day would never come! I'm having my procedure at University of Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. It was great to meet the others who are also having their procedures on the 28th at the pre-op appointment - - some of which was done as a group and some privately. Anyway, It did give us a chance to bond!

I cut out sodas and straws about 6 yrs ago cold turkey. I don't miss either. I love sf Hawaiian punch in the packets for Water bottles and sf crush in the pouches. They are perfect. No carbonation

Thank you!! I'm home now but I feel over tired. I was released from the hospital yesterday and my sons wedding was last night. I went to the wedding although I didn't do anything, but I think I over did it because I've been sore and tired ever since. Taking it really easy today. Trying to get in my Protein and it's difficult. I'm not hungry but I could eat.... All these commercials about food are making it difficult. But I will not give in!!!!

So where are my 28th siblings? We have just 2 days left. My procedure is at 1 so this time Monday I will be in surgery. Praying for a easy, uncomplicated surgery for everyone & definitely a speedy recovery.

Lisa, your just starting so don't be frustrated. Your most likely still retaining some of that Fluid from the hospital as well as still swollen. I didn't step on the scale for almost 2 weeks after surgery. liquids will go away. I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and eating things that I can chew. I'm down 33lbs and loving this whole thing. food no longer controls my life, I don't worry about what I'm eating and when can I eat it. Once you can start pureed you'll start to feel better about everything. Even being able to eat something like yogurt gives you hope, do don't be depressed or sad. Time goes by quickly and before you know it you'll be eating yummy stuff again. I actually went out to dinner for the first time tonight, granted I only had a cup of awesome chili with cheese and onions, but more importantly I felt like I was a part of the human race again.

I know there have been many opinons about this topic. My personal stand is that I am not telling anyone. I told my husband and I wanted to leave it at that. My husband said it would be best to tell our two adult kids. So, that's it. My husband and kids are the only ones who will know. I made the decision that I didn't want anyone to know because I don't want the criticism for my decision and/or the judgement and scrutiny that would come from my friends and family. I don't have anyone that would be supportive enough and not be judgemental about my decision. I also don't want all eyes on me and the contant questions - how much weight have you lost? how much weight do you want to lose? can you eat that? you don't need ot lose anymore weight, why are you doing that you just need more willpower. I'm already expecting some of this from my husband who is still not 100% onboard with my decision. So, for me, I have decided not to tell anyone outside of my iommediate family.
My family has a lot of overweight people. So, once i do start to lose the weight, i'll get questioned on what I am doing to lose weight. I won't lie but i'll chose how to answer based on what I believe to be the intent of the person asking. My personal choice. Doesn't make me right or wrong, it's just what I decided to do.

Had my RNY 5 months ago... chronic severe GERD..damaging my lungs! Problem resolved..My surgeon said it is the only way to clear out the reflux since the part of your stomach that produces the acid is removed . Good luck to you!

I thought from the beginning I didn't want to tell anyone but a few close friends and a few family. But I guess they are nosy or I am a bad liar because they keep asking what surgery I am having. I have told them I am having a hiatal hernia repaired (which I am during the roux-n-y surgery). I don't know what else to say when people keep asking me.
These are my friends and family but I am uncomfortable telling them what surgery I am having. What can I tell them to get them to quit asking questions?

Hi I just found out that my surgery got approved after the insurance company originally denied it. I have been waiting a long time (or at least it seems that way) on this roller coaster. I found out today my final weigh in will be may 2nd and I will get my official surgery date then but it looks like May will be my month!

My surgery is also on May 7th! Surgeon only requires me to do 7 day pre-op. So, I don't start until April 30. Mine is totally liquid. I really wish it would allow for a light meal. I mgiht make my own pre-op diet. Just so I don't go through the Migraines.

Wow that would be awful. The doctors sent me a list that allows two frozen Meal Replacements ( weight watchers or something similar) two Protein Drinks, a sugar free Jello and a fruit a day for my pre-op diet. Don't know if that will change when I have my pre-op appointment on 'May 5th.

I haven't done anything at all. I got the news about my surgery date just this morning. I've been kinda silently freaking out since about 11 am. Before this, I had a vague thought of what I'd do once I got the date. . .but after it became a reality. . .I began the silent freak out. . . What do I do first?!?! I have a pretty sedentary job. I sit at a desk all day. Very minimal activity or moving around. So, I'll be out for surgery the first week. But the second week, i'll work from home. Planning to go back to work physicially on the 3rd week after surgery. I'm hoping all goes well and I'll feel up to it. I'm just afraid I'm not ready.
Ive mainly been freaking out about all the stuff I CAN'T have after surgery. Am I really ready to give up chocolate and ice cream. . . Then the next few minutes I feel like, I've enjoyed those things for so many years and now look where it's gotten me. But it still doesn't take away this huge mind game i'm playing on myself.
I'm sorry. . .I'm rambling. . .so glad I have this forum to help 'release'.

Pre-op started yesterday. All is good......not bad at all other than some diarrhea, but hopefully that will subside soon. I'm using Premier Protein shakes at work (3) and then I like the unjury Protein (Chocolate and vanilla are both really good) as my last shake. Filling in with lots of s/f Jello and broth. I can't really say that I've been hungry, but clearly lots of action in the tummy the last 2 days. I hope it continues to be this easy. I think one of the keys is keeping my mind busy and not having time to think about what I'm eating......I mean drinking.
Have all the early May surgeries started pre-op diets? I'm curious how it's going for everyone else.
    Have a great day!!!
