I also was prepared to have the sleeve, until the results from my egd came back I have Barrett's. My doctor also advised me gastric bypass was the way to go. I was very bummed cause my sis n law had the sleeve and she looks fantastic. After just 9 mos she's at her goal. The doctor went on to tell me it's the shape of stomach that makes the sleeve a bad choice making Barrett's/Gerd/Acid reflux worse and with Barrett's lead to the next stage cancer. Before I left his office I was on board with the bypass. I know I need a tool and I certainly don't want the sleeve and risk getting cancer. This site has helped me know I made the right decision hearing that they are fully recovered. My bypass surgery is set for May 7th, a week from today. Let us know what you decide. -

Monola : thank you for the positive feedback and experience. My surgery is May 7 th. -
The only thing I know is in my nutritionist class that was required a mom and daughter were attending also. The mom was around 300lbs having bypass and her daughter was much larger and she was having the DS. She told me since she had so much to lose the DS was the best for her. I think they pass more of the intestines that absorbed calories on the DS. I don't know if that's the only difference tho. Good luck on your Journey!

tebowfan replied to tebowfan's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
To- James Marusek. Thank you so much for all the information!! I am going to do as you said and go to GNC for the flavored Protein Water. I also am glad u brought up the Vitamins and meds. I'll have to make a schedule. I do not want them to know I had the bypass surgery, so I'm thinking I'll say it was a hernia repair. It will be part truth. So ke e else said to tell them I had my gallbladder out. It is already out though. Thanks again for responding. I haven't had much success on getting responses/ feedback on here, but I'm not giving up. Congrats on being 11 months out as well. I can't wait to be 11 months out:) -
Hello, I'm having bypass surgery on May 7th. My hubby's extended family gets together memorial weekend for the entire weekend 3 hours away. I don't want to tell them I had bypass surgery. I have Gerd/ Barrett's Esophagus. Do you think I will able to travel there 17 days post op? I will be on the puréed stage. If I am showing any signs of surgery, what can I say to cover why I'm in pain it whatever is to come? Thanks everyone!

Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey
tebowfan replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have the band and will be revised to the bypass may 7th. I have Barrett's esophagus ow which is pre cancer die from long term Gerd. My doc said the shape of a leave would be bad for a Gerd patient/ Barrett's, this why bypass is better. I have read on here the part that makes acid in our bodies is bypassed with the bypass. Hope this helps. -

To flygirl: just call your insurance say u r wanting to know if you are approved for surgery. The first person I spoke with had no record of it so I had to push further and say it is with the review person pending approval. They put me on a 3 minute hold and called that dept to find out cause it doesn't show up in customer service dept. I then asked for direct number, which they gave. This number was for "care notifications". Ask for reference number once u get an update for the next time u call. Each tine I asked what they are waiting on. Can't wait for you to be approved!! -

Do you have a GNC store around you? I got to thinking, I add skim milk to bariatric advantage and water to gnc so the calories are probably less Than bariatric advantage. I can't remember if I stated, I can have protein shakes, broth, sf jello & Popsicles.
