Statistically I'm told over 70% of sleep apnea WLS patience no longer need cpap 6 mo post surgery. Personally I'm told that due to the narrow nature of my throat passage and extreme apnea I have the surgery may not help. Considering apnea is one of the reasons I've embarked on this journey I'm a bit upset at this new finding. Has anyone out there not been able to kick the cpap post surgery. ..why? I need some perspective.

I'm finally resolved. I've spoken with my nurse and surgeon and I'm resolved that my apnea will get better, but perhaps not alleviated. As a stance of faith I'm praying and believing otherwise but I acknowledge the potential outcome. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm pushing forward.

All done and thumbs up!!! It was painless.

Good luck to you. We should post later to keep one another informed.

This is it. ..the last step before getting a surgery date. My psych evaluation is tomorrow! Should I be nervous? I'm feeling rather excited actually. ..

How often should I see my surgeon during this process? I'm on month 3 and awaiting a date, but I feel quite distant from my surgeon having spent time with nutritionists and nurses during this time. Is this normal?

My bmi is a 40/41. I hate the cpap. Yes, I sleep better and less tired during the day, but I hate depending on it. I'm married! !! My hubby is super supportive but it can't be sexy sleeping next to me! I'm overly conscious of snoring on trains out planes. ... it's just a nuisance I was praying would go away. We do what we must but I will be praying for this one.

I appreciate that!

I definately did my homework and my pcp recommended her as well. Dr Cha happened to have done my preop interest meeting too so I went with her. She and I have connected, but I'm cautious. Shes young. That could make her very good or very inexperienced. I'm on the lower bmi side so I'm hoping for no complications...Im told I'm a textbook case so we'll see!!!

Yes. Our pre opt appts are on main campus, bur the surgery will be at presby. Do you attend support group?

Great. Thanks for the feedback. I generally hear good things about PENN, but I am a little concerned that I haven't heard about my particular surgeon.
-
Oh my...I'm so sorry you had that experience, but glad things worked out at crozer. It has been a week for you. ..any complications? Who was your surgeon?

Great info. Was there a reason or conscious decision NOT to use her? I tend to gravitate toward female docs particularly with sensitive medical needs like obgyn and THIS. I just want to ensure I'm in the right hands...not just the right program.

How much weight are you expected to lose during pre-opt? I'm struggling! I'm eating well and working out when I can but the scale is bouncing up and down 2-3lbs. I feel so defeated for not being able to get a clear 10lbs off... thus my need for the surgery and fear that it won't work. How's everyone else doing? I'm hoping for a late May surgery date but nothing is confirmed.
