    March 2014 Sleevers

Just finished my weekly fashion show. Saturdays are my day to go shopping in my closet. I look good in a few pair of slacks that I couldn't wear a month ago. On a bad note, I'm really fighting Protein or should I say it's fighting me. I'm getting a nauseous feeling at just the smell. What are your favorites, and how have you changed them up?

    PBS Documentary on wls

Just watched and it was well worth it. It brought home that we got large for various reasons and motivation to loose weight is different in all of us. If you throw us all into a room, we have similarities, but we are not the same. I thought this was a good film on the psychology of weight, without being about it.

    March 2014 Sleevers

I almost needed a nap before water aerobics, but once there I worked out and felt energetic. In other words, I'm trying to push myself to do things that I want to do that will help me and my weight loss.

    Who is in March?

I'm in the DFW metroplex. At my hospital, the Bariatric nurse gave me a listing of numerous local groups and their current meeting dates. I've been to one meeting and though it was dealing with subject matter further down the road than I am today, I did get some good info. It was good for me to see real people doing the same thing that I am. There were men and women at different stages, even goal. There are stats, I hear, that people who are active in a group will be more successful. I know that when I'm in a program, if I am more active with the group, I have been more successful. Don't judge all groups by the one that you attended. Check for more in your area. I bet you will find one that is beneficial.

    Apparently I disappointed someone...

Yep, we've cut 3/4 of our stomachs out. I think there will be some 'friends' that will require the same surgical removal. I told my friends, family and my work mates about what I'm doing , but not my whole FB community. I told the people who see me every day and I socialize with regularly. I hope they will see me making positive changes in eating and drinking habits and will help me along the way. Everyone that I've told have been very supportive, but I'm sure there will be issues along the way. When 2/5 of my starting weight is gone, I have no idea how my circle will react. I love your response, but I hope you also hit that unfriend button as soon as you responded. Oh, and I would so patent the shitometer. That bad boy would SO come in handy.

    Post op medications (crushed meds)

I crush my bp pill and drink in about a half oz Water. I take Pepcid like someone said chewing it with my Flintstone Vitamins. I have Calcium chews and every other day a B Vitamin under my tongue. I was off my BP just after the hospital, but my BP went up, so I've gone back on it.... For now. I have liquid Lori-tab, but found that I didn't have enough pain to make the nasty taste worth it. Chewable or liquid children's Tylenol has done the trick for any pains. One morning I swallowed my Pepcid out of habit with no trouble, but scared myself. Now here is the good stuff, before surgery I was taking fish oil, flax oil, glucosamine/chondroitin as well as some other OTC pills. Those are gone at this point. What are you taking, and how big are they? Dr said after a few weeks I'd be able to swallow pills as big as an aspirin. Good luck with your process!!!!

    How long off work?

Surgery on Thursday, drain in for a week so I logged in a couple times from home for the first few days. Half-day on Friday (day 9). Full-time on following Monday. I did crash on Tuesday my 1st week back really early, but with long sleep I recovered quickly. I did have nap attacks my first week.

    clots and filter

The filter is well worth it. Think of it as insurance, that you hope you never need. I think that's better than longterm blood thinners. My surgery became a no brainier. I could lose the weight, shoot, I've done it before. What I needed was a tool that would help me keep the weight off. To me, losing weight is just part of the process, keeping it off is my real goal. Tired of the Yoyo....

    March 2014 Sleevers

I'm really surprised at the different eating regimens. After 3 days of clear liquid, my Dr has 5 weeks full liquid, meaning nothing heavier than runny oatmeal 3 times a day and at least 2oz. Bottom line, if you can pick it up with a fork then it's too thick. Boring, YES, but 1 protecting that line of staples giving it the time needed to heal, 2 it's all the food that I can handle, 3 it's setting up some habits that I will need to follow to be successful, longterm. I've had some days that this along with all the liquid and protein are hard to get in. Even after I start eating, according to my dietician, I will use an appetizer plate and make half my plate protein, a third veggies and only the rest carb rich choices. That will be the hugest change for me, but I will throw out the bulky carbs!!! I'm a little extreme, maybe, I've got my new plates as well as appetizer utensils to keep my bites down. On my scales, I have them held captive in my bathroom cabinet. They only come out twice a week. I can't worry myself with a stall day to day, as I've dieted in the past, even my water intake and output can make a big swing up and down in a twenty four hour time frame. Don't put yourself under undue stress. I'm so ready for my old life as a buffet to turn into my new life as a tasting party!!!,

    March 2014 Sleevers

    I. Agree MO. I'm on 'full liquid' for 2 more weeks. Very boring and most times I have my meal just because it's what I'm supposed to do. I feel a little nauseous every once in a while but I can't seem to figure out the trigger. I have not gotten sick, just get the occasional moment when I feel like I could.

    March 2014 Sleevers

OK March sisters, I hope all gets better soon. I was having burning stomach earlier this week. At my 3 week follow up, Dr gave me multiple options. I'm going with (and so far it's working) high dose Pepcid twice a day and a sip of Mylanta for quick relief. Just a small sip coats my gullet and does the job. Doc says this is very common and usually gets better in month 3. He also said I could take Zantac with the Pepcid, but my past experience with Zantac keeps me from trying this. There are other options for this and if you have the burn, you should address it with your Dr. I try to keep a water and another drink going at all times. Still need to get more fluid, but doubling up has helped me.

    is this normal?

Freak day for me was one week pre-op. Just in time for my last pre-op Dr. visit. By surgery day I was fine, just ready to get 'er dune.... Must admit that Valium helped a lot on surgery day. It's good to feel the different emotions. This surgery and life change is a big step. Just don't dwell on the bad ones.

    Who is in March?

Chiming in late to this thread.... My Sleeve was done on the 13th. Please add me to the list. So far so good. I've shared a few of the same problems, but only mildly so. I have my 3 week check in tomorrow. We'll see how all is going then. I'm still in search of my goto protein.... Cheers to the whole group!!
  20. Sounds like you've got it. I took pajama pants instead of a robe for walking the halls. Good thoughts coming your way!!

    Recovery room question

Like others here, I don't really remember the recovery room, just wheeling through the hall to my room. I dozed quite a bit that first day. I had the pain pump, but used it more because it was there, than any real need. Went home second day after surgery. Now I feel a little cheated as we only stopped at a CVS pharmacy and WalMart on the way home. After trying the prescription liquid pain med, I decided,I did not have enough pain to take that, and have had nothing but occasional baby Tylenol in 2 weeks since.
  22. My pre-op diet was only 3 days. I was at home for one week from work, but was able to log in from home a couple of those days. I felt fine, but would then get very tired. I called it nap attacks. I had a post-op drain for one week and chose to stay home while I had this in place.
  23. Same here jluv. I'm 16 days out and amazed how little pain was involved. Creating new eating and drinking habits are a bit of a challenge.
