I did a half day after 8 days then had a weekend off, then hit it full-time at a desk job on the following Monday morning. I was wiped out the Tuesday evening but with a good sleep, I was fine. Bottom line is that you will likely be tired for a week or two, I think more from being put under than the surgery itself. Take it easy as you can,

The drain was just a tube into the abdominal cavity with a light suction ball at the end. Not all Drs use it, mine did. I think it may be a little old school, but my Dr called it his window into the surgery area. My drain did not collect a massive amount of fluids, but I like that it did instead of my body having to reabsorb what it did collect. Mine was held into place with a single stitch and was removed after one week.

7 weeks post op - success and struggles
Susan-031314 replied to Jaime_Boston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love all these ideas!!! Eight weeks today for me. I've looked for the Protein Snacks, but still haven't seen them in my grocery. I keep baggies of almonds as my go to snack, 16 to be exact. Our offices had BBQ today. I took the standard serving and divided into 5 servings for me. My worst eating to date has been to enjoy a bit of Birthday cake. It was nice that I was satisfied with a tiny bit then dispose of the rest. food has been a new experience for me but sweets may still be my downfall. Keep those ideas coming!! -

sleeve post op sore throat
Susan-031314 replied to ninan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will get better Nina!!! If the sore is deep, call your Dr, and ask about gerd or acid reflux. Excess stomach acid can fool you. If is just red sore throat that you can see in your upper throat, try hot tea or sugar free frozen pops. I'm feeling for you, get better soon!!!! -
Hi Diva, your body is trying to shut down on you. Happens to all of us at some point. Increase activity and fluids, and it may be hard at first. Get that engine running and it will start to really burn the fat. You are doing great on the protein. Keep up the good work and get some tweaking from the NUT at your meeting like you said. You are doing it right, it will work.

I just want to cry
Susan-031314 replied to Erin414's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Cassie. If milk products are not agreeing, your NUT should be able to suggest alternatives. I like the edimome idea. Find a food that will help you through this period. It will get better. -

I don't have anything exciting like a wedding dress to aspire to, except for a bridesmaid dress that I wore at 16, uh, 38 years ago, but that will be quite a few months from now. Today I traveled back a couple of years to some pants I wore on Jan 23, 2012. It was a much better experience than last time I wore them, when I totaled my car. I love how the years are melting away..... Tell me your stories. Where and when do the clothes in the back of your closest take you?

Need a little advice...I have no enjoyment when eating
Susan-031314 replied to Mokamami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mokamama, it sounds to me like you are doing a great job!! Follow the Drs orders. I know my surgeon has told me to get into my regular Dr (which is on my list for tomorrow). My Surgeon said that the primary care physicians don't always like when surgeons mess with their prescriptions. If you are not getting all the help you need from your surgeon's office, your primary care physician's office may have good resources for you as well. I hope you are also involved in a support group locally. If your Dr's office didn't supply this, call hospitals in your area and ask to talk to the Bariatrics departments or nurse. This board is great, but live people going through the same experience can be very helpful. Take care!! -
Clothing as a time machine

Thanks Lil Princess. Now I don't feel quite so bad about saving my high school drill team uniform. It will be way too short for me, but if it doesn't fir this Halloween, I'll wear it the next year. And your secret 'romance' is safe with me!!!!, -
I officially HATE protein shakes!
Susan-031314 replied to yolicious1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm trying the Nectar brand shakes. I honestly like Fuzzy Navel. At Vitamin shop, and some stores have single packs so you can try the different varieties. -
I had 7. 4 for the surgery, 1 for a drain port, then 2 pinholes for my OnQue nerve block. Add these to two previous laparoscopic surgeries, and my tummy looks like I took a hit from a shotgun. Actually only the main one where my stomach was removed has been painful at all. It tells me when I overdo. Prior surgery scars are so tiny and light, I really have to look for them.

This sounds fishy. I paid nothing that wasn't billed through my insurance. Hospitals in the DFW metroplex offer support groups for free. If I contact the hospital NUT, that would billed as additional services, but my Dr's office is available (I'm sure within reason) for a year, post surgery.

1 week post-op...and loving it!
Susan-031314 replied to mcmallatt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats, and I agree. Nap attacks are common in the first week or two, but it gets better. A month and a half later, I was working on a fence with a power-washer today. I may have tired out a little to quickly, but I guarantee I feel better than I did before my sleeve. -

Will GERD or GASTRITIS Affect my surgery?
Susan-031314 replied to JacobsMommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did not know the I had reflux before, but apparently I did. I just thought of it as mild indigestion, took my Pepcid and went on my way. I've been sleeping on a wedge pillow most nights since my sleeve. I hope to not need this in the long-term as my dr said it usually improves after about 3 months. -
Pbucks, that's rough with the ICU stay. That doesn't sound normal.

Cant believe i just did this
Susan-031314 replied to rebecca61885's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Too cool!!! Biggest difference I see is in your face. Obviously smaller today and I think you look younger too. Few more months and it will fall off of you... -
I've gotten PB2 and Medi-fast through internet. I just went to Amazon for PB2. Medi-fast was just through their website. My Dr. Does not have Medi-fast on his approved list, but I find their drinks and shakes better than the higher protein shakes that I've tried.
-
I've got a fridge full of Isopure. Still have not found a flavor that I can stomach. I do enjoy PB3 in chocolate or vanilla shakes. Blended with ice, so smooth and COLD. I have been using some Medifast products as well. I need a variety!!!!

Is glugging down a whole glass of water okay?
Susan-031314 replied to SugarBomb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Worst experience in the hospital was when I had a swallow test. I drank some barium liquid. I asked how to swallow? They told me just normally..... That was the new normal, not my old style gulping normal. It all stopped (with my nose tube in place) just above my stomach, and stayed there for the better part of 10 minutes. It looked cool on the ex-ray though. Today, almost 7 weeks, I can glug a little, but it's more like sip, sip, glug, then wait. -
Favorite multi-vit post op? please share!

Count me in the Flintstones kids (with iron). I also take the sublingual B12 3x per week and Calcium at a different time to not counteract with the iron. I crushed my BP pill for 4 Weeks, but now just split it to the size of an aspirin. Hopefully that one will soon go away.
