    Tips from success stories

Seems like we should be free to post what we think in this forum- and we are equally free to ignore what others post. I'm pretty sure we all have doctors we paid, and we all should follow their advice.... so why have the forum at all? Variety. I say live and let live.
  2. I'd rather drink a big glass of my MRM chocolate than a shot of that stuff. Sounds terrible. I also couldn't stand the Isopure. I'm making Jello out of it- maybe that will help

    April 2014 pre-op group

Don't worry, its NOTHING to the hospital staff. Just mention it to your prep nurse when they are giving you instructions for changing into your hospital gown. I started my period DURING surgery. So weird but after surgery they put some hospital undies and a pad on me. No biggie.

    April 2014 pre-op group

Mine said clear is ok. I think they meed to check your fingers and toes for color/ circulation
  6. Interesting how things differ. We are to stop taking supplements 2 weeks before surgery and start up again 2 weeks post op when we start pureed foods. For 3 months post op we take the Prilosec (omeprazole) and potassium.

You can still get a pretty manicure and pedicure, clear or french tip only. Thats what I did and I'm glad I did. I feel much more human during this recovery.

    No energy whatsoever

How on earth do people have the energy to cook and try new things? I spend 10 minutes in the kitchen to get my shake and soup... and I have to go back to bed... like I've run a marathon. I'm 224 pounds. Down 26 pounds since pre-op started in January.

    Hitting the wall?

My Dr said there is a good 6 week recovery period. I am 11 days post op and I'm nowhere near walking a mile... so you're doing great!
  10. Obviously one is a much more complex surgery, and the recovery is linger, initially. However, I've met so many people with band complications who eventually switched to bypass or sleeve. Not sure if any time is really saved in the long run.

    March 2014 Surgery!

Oh the things I'm learning!I know I was so confused on a time frame for what pills to take when and with which other pills... Thank God my surgeon gave me a daily schedule for when and what pills to take. Lifesaver. I put it in an app for RX reminder. Works great!!!What app are you using?
  12. Good to know. I start vitamins next week along with pureed foods. I have a lot of vitamins...i have a feeling the complexity of it all is going to get old real quick

    March 2014 Surgery!

I'm staying away from too much dairy because it can cause gas. Also, some people become lactose intolerant after surgery. Next week, I start supplements, and one of those is calcium. Did you know that Calcium and Iron shouldn't be taken together because they cancel each other out? Oh the things I'm learning!

    March 2014 Surgery!

I mix mine with water and make them thin. That way, I get more fluids too. I am sick of chocolate though.

    Getting a medical ID tag

You could also just put your name and "see info behind ID in wallet"... Then you can write as much on the card as you want. I totally understand being nervous. I'm 11 days post-op and I'm still nervous.. I have to keep reminding myself that its over... sounds stupid but I keep panicking that the insurance is going to cancel on me... lol

    Getting a medical ID tag

    Abilify ... Not ability lol
  21. My husband is the only one who knows. The rest don't matter and I don't need their approval (not likely to get it anyway). I know that sounds very negative, but I really don't need every conversation for the rest of my life to be about weight loss/surgery. I just want to get on with life. I tend to compartmentalize my life.. or create fire walls... lol so if one part blows up at least another part will be "safe" still.

    Getting a medical ID tag

Gastric Bypass Do not give any NSAIDS Allergic to Ability Thats what mine says. I think its fairly important since Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS could actually cause you to hemorrhage and die
  23. I had a BMI of 40... After 3 years of fighting, my doctor finally got me approved because of arthritis and IBS. With my insurance you have to have a BMI of 50 if you aren't diabetic or sleep apnea. I think the insurances are staring to see the value in this surgery.
