I didn't weigh in the day of surgery. The hospital (Mass General) doesn't have a scale in the operative area. I weighed in at my last pre-op visit 8 days prior to surgery. I also didn't lose any weight during my pre-op diet. I was told to just keep my weight the same because losing weight would disqualify me medically, I was too close to the cut off.

I was told no caffeine because it's a diuretic and causes dehydration. Being well hydrated is very important after surgery obviously. The problem with NSAIDs, as it was explained to me, is that NSAIDs are hard on the stomach. They can cause ulcers in someone with a full size stomach so they can definetly be problematic for someone with a small stomach. If you need pain medication for arthritis there are many options that aren't NSAIDs. You should ask your doctor.

I feel for u. Truly. Longest 4 weeks of my life. Good luck. And don't risk getting a leak just to chew something, please. Read the complications forums about the few people that gets leaks. My dr said most are caused by people advancing their diet too quikly. Convinced me enuf... __________________________ This is interesting because my surgeon told me that most leaks happened within 5 days of surgery and were never the fault of the patient but of the surgeon. It's bizarre how everyone gets different information for the same procedure. This is why I think the diet rules are a bit arbitrary as they seem to be vastly different for everyone. Same procedure, rules should be the same.

how do you know the size? I asked my surgeon and he told me.

Hello, I'm sorry to read you are having a tough time. You were just sleeved a week ago? I was very hungry about 6 days post op and had a mini meltdown. I would have eaten my own hand I was so hungry. I even called my surgeon who told me "hunger is not a complication." It's normal to be hungry, especially when you're on liquids. I was shocked, disappointed, and angry at how hungry I was because no one told me that I would be hungry. The surgery was supposed to eliminate hunger right? It doesn't work that way for everyone. I'm just as hungry now as I was before surgery, I just get full on less food. Try to be patient with yourself and remember that "this too shall pass." You won't always feel so miserable. I didn't stick to my meal plan because of my hunger and moved to soft foods about 7 days post op. It wasn't a problem for me, I didn't have any trouble keeping foods down and I felt much better finally being able to eat. I'm not suggesting you not follow your doctors orders but remember that you're an individual with individual needs and what works for others might not work for you. Hope you feel better!

I am almost 6 weeks out and eat peanut butter chocolate powerbars a few times a week. Takes 30-45 min to eat the whole thing. I alternate between the bars and protein shakes. I also eat a lot more than you. My hunger is the same now as it was before surgery (yes I take a PPI). I just cant take in as much. Don't feel bad! Everyone has different eating patterns. I'm a 'lightweight' so my weight loss is slow but steady. I eat probably about 1600 calories a day. Yikes! Lol. I feel fine though. My philosophy is suistainable progress and it's that philosophy that allowed me to maintain my weight for 6 years prior to surgery. No yo yo dieting for me and that includes my eating habits post op.

I'm post op about 6 weeks and I took off 4 weeks from work. My surgeon suggested 6 weeks but I didnt have access to that much time. I was okay pain wise after one week. I havent taken anything stronger than tylenol since 24 hours post op. My biggest problem has been energy but my sister recently pointed out to me that my activity level was too high prior to surgery. I basically lived in the gym. I say to plan on at least two weeks to allow yourself time to heal. Everyone reacts differently to surgery.
