Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum

Ok so I cried, I mean I was bawling.!!!! The Dr. had to call in a nurse to hold my hand. I totally digressed to being 6. I have no idea why. I am sure if you read my postings you can tell I am a wimp. To think this is my first fill. When I asked him about how much he put in there he told me that it was not necessary to know a number is but a number. To answer as to how I checked on him and what he told me, I ordered a background check. Besides, on the incidents of port replacement and / or punture of port , I checked on the other forum. Have a good weekend -

In regards to the list of hotels I do not know, but I have to tell you the surgical center is fantastic. I was so impressed. Their care was excellent and their staff very professional and knowleageable. I was called by Dr performing the anethetic the night before to answer any questions. The surgery is a couple of hours but I would suggest to count on 5 or 6. they need to prep you and you need to be somewhat coherent after so they can release you. Welcome to the Bandwagon -

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. I have been missing in action for a bit but that is becasue of the holiday traveling. I see that our little group is growing. I was supposed to get my 1st filled yesterday but the office was packed. He is a popular a loved dr our Dr K so I rescheduled for Friday. Trina1122, I hope you feel comfortable with Dr K. As you can see we are all very comfortable with him and he is an incredible Dr. His bedside manner is fantastic besides the fact that he is very knowledgeable. He is very complete in his explanations and is not afraid to answer the hard question. I asked him point blank how long he had been doing this, I asked him about his experience, his staffs and the people at the hospital. I even asked him if he had had any problems or whether he had had any legal action against him due to his practice. He was honest and I even confirmed his information later on. If you are self pay all of your expenses in the surgery will be included so as 3 fills and as many calls you need to make to his office or visits to make sure you are taken care of in his fee. They have some suggestions as to where you can go for financing and of course they accept credit card payment except AMEX. It is always nice to explore your financing options as you could get a different interest rate by different sources. They will work with you in regards to whether you have your financing done now or later. Their request is that you have payment for them 10 days prior to surgery. This is a major surgery so make sure you do your research. The more informed your are the more comfortable you will be. Who knows you may be one of Dr K's groupies too!! I read the postings since last week and while we are all either losing a lot or not, and learning how to deal with our fills what is inspiring to me is that we are persevering. :clap2:To me it has become more about my relationship with food and how I have to learn to respect it and my band helps reminds me of it. Losing weight is a secondary very nice effect of it. It is nice to be back. Please be safe -

Hello Ladies, I hope all is well. I am reading your posts and I am little scare about when I get my first fill. I have to tell you this past 2 weeks have been nothing but trial an error in regards to eating slowly, chewing food careful and hopefully nothing gets stuck as I am sure you know the pain involved. I get the hic ups even if I eat mushy food or if I drink Water too fast. I swear my ribs feel like they are about to explode so I am not sure how I am going to do with the actually fill. I am also venting today but I am ok. In regards to calorie range I want to discuss with Paula but I have heard that about 1 cup is what you should go for. How amny calories can fit in a cup as long as it is not triple brownie ice cream sunday. I will be seeing Dr K today for that goose egg next to my incision will see what he has to say. LAdies know that you are my inspiration, please be well -

Hello All, I did go to my meeting on Tuesday and while it was great to hear everyones process and progress there was one person there that monopolized the comversation. This person seem to be asking and looking for the quick and easy way and losing weight fast. I guess what I realized was that while the weight loss is seconday side effect the main focus is the food. How to rethink and treat food. Munchkin, I am sorry to hear that they are not been open minded nor focusing on their behavior. Dr K is wonderful and his staff is always willing to work with you. Do you know who you are going to get your fills. When I was there on Tuesday they mentioned that the johnson and johnson is making a change on the band. try to figure out which one you are getting so you can tell the physician that will be doing your fills. Please let me know where you are staying i may be able to meet you. Other than that I am well and waiting for my first fill after Thanksgiving Want2beme again: I had an appt with the Dr on Friday since it appears I have a hematoma with liquid that will need ot be drained next to my incision and I was hoping to meet you but I had to change it at the last minute. Do let me know when you are getting your next fill I may be able to coordinate them with you. -

I am a little surprise that we are prefacing our comments with the the chopping block comment. NONE OF THAT HERE ! I sincerely hope we are not the kind of people that reaches for the cleaver. With that I think I can speak for all that we are here for just what "wantobemeagain said" the support and the information we provide. I will be attenting the meeting with Dr K daughther today. I am interested in an post op eating plan. I am 2 days shy of 2 weeks surgery and I feel that I can pack it in. Anyone else have any structure diet or any reading suggestions in regards to an eating plan. Wantobemeagain, your story is so inspirational(besides the fact that you are beautiful). I would like to know how you did after the surgery. If you think the post will be too long private message is ok. By the way if you get any idea on how long the pain should last and why do we have the rock hard egg in our tummies I would like to know I am just afraid that I am not sure what to do now that Iam 10k short, my band, plus a couple of lovely red gashes and I have no idea what is next. No regrets though! -

Purplelady, I guess I am confused at what you mean with your post. Please enlighten me. The way I see it, this thread was started because the other thread was established but its members were also established. I find this thread to be informational but open and supportive something I was not able to find someplace else. I sincerely hope you just don't find us informational. We share about our experiences, advice and cheer one another, gripe, vent (at least I do). I would like to think that we all have a common ground that we can not so easily find in our regular lifes. We do so in a nonjudmental and accepting way. Of course we can not forget nor be dismissive that we all had our surgery by Dr K and we sing him praises. More like his groupies if you would. I hope I am not speaking for anyone else but my humble opinion. -

Ladies, Ok so I am the hypocondriac in the room but I need some advice as to whether what I am feeling is normal . The section left of of my large incision feels not only hard but painful. I got this very sharp pain in there. Feels like a needle and the section right between my chest to my first incision not only is it tight but dear mother I can not wear my bra as it hits right there. Anyone else has felt the same. Is this all in my head or I am just bein impatient with my healing. -

<p>Ladies, </p> <p> </p> <p>This is soooo... refreshing, thank you so much for the new thread. What can I say about me, I am in my late 30's and single yet i care for two of the most wonderful beings my niece and nephew. 15 and 21 respectively. I am new to Denver and really excited to have gotten my band from Dr K. Have you notice that this man is very sensitive. When we last talked I mentioned that he definetly has the gift of healing. I got banded on Nov 1 and I am on mushies and doing better. My first week was rather painful. I am actually looking forward to meeting with his daughter as for some reason it appears that I am able to eat decent portions without much side effects. In addition in a couple of weeks I will get my first fill so we'll see how that goes. Maybe I an starting to get a little too comfortable with my band. So ladies I hope to continue to communicate via this forum and see how you are all doing. Oh! one more thing, maybe someone can tell me how I can get my ticker posted on my thread, ok so I am a moron but for some reason I can't seem to get it right.</p> <p> </p> <p>Please be well.</p> <p> </p> <p>Banded on 11/01/07</p> <p>By: Dr K</p> -

woofay, <p>I have not but my previous emails with her seem very interesting. I will attend the meeting with her Tuesday. I am interested in making sure that my decision to have the band is not a quick solution and more of a livestyle change. I am sure you will have a lovely time but I think I need to focus in my overall healing. If I have the opportunity to get some coaching from her I will take he opportunity. Social hour, as much as I will miss it I can have some other time. If you are interested I would be happy to give you a private recap after the meeting. Please be well!</p> -

<p>Dynamomini, </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>I appreciate your candor, I guess I am not lucky enough to get phsyc support individually. Regarless I would like to recieve it from someone like the therapist. she seems to know what she is doing and have it more a support as opposed to social hour. I guess I will miss you. </p> <p> </p> <p>Good bye ladies</p> <a href="Weight Loss - Diet Ticker"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wyWMxwp/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wyWMxwp/weight.png"></a> -

Taynuh I appreciate your feedback. I did call as suggested and they told me that I was more sore since they had to manipulate my liver. Also the swelling did not help. I swear I was bloated like a ballon. The gas issue is just does not help at all. It has been six days since the operation and I feel much better. I just started eating mushy food but the amounts can not be over 2 oz because if it is I just feel like the hiccups are about to start and they are painful. I would be interested in seeing you all at the RR meeting. I don't care what day just pick a day. Maybe we can exchange impressions as I am about to get back to the office and I am not sure what to bring in regards to food. -

Hello! To those of you who suggested the book and offer some questions thank you. I actually went with WLS for Dummies. I wanted to get some reading done prior to my appt and I could not wait to have it deliver from Amazon. The questions were extremely helpful. I actually made a list and had my little book. Not needed he hit all of them So I had my Dr. consult yesterday. I waited forever, I was ready to walk out. I know he reads the forum so he probably knows who is writing this but I tell you I waited over 2 1/2 hours. At the end and after my conversation with him I know it was worth the wait. Then again, I remembered this week is the begining of the high holidays and he is not going to be there the whole week. I was blessed I was able to get in. He was very thorough in his explanation. He answered all my questions and actually put my concerns at ease. It is easy to see why a great deal of us are in love with this man. Of course, I am saying anything you don't already know. So I have consented to proceed with this so I guess I have jumped into the band wagon. want2bemeagain - I know you won't read this till later but you are in such good hands. I will meet with the ladies for you and take pictures, In the meantime, enjoy the ride Woofay- In my conversation with the Dr I mentioned he had a great following. He is a bit modest yet he knows. We talked about the forum and it even came up how he saw someone from the forum and perfomed a small procedure. I knew it was you and he mentioned how all went well. It was nice to hear it from him that you were well even before I read your post. I will make arrangements with the office about scheduling. In the meantime I will join you tonight at Red Robin and look forward to meeting you. :whoo: Dr. Kirshenbaum www.lapbandrockies.com Sept 10, 2007 Dr. consult -

Thank you all for you thoughs and advise. I have been looking for any books on the band specially the one suggested by MAL but I have not been able to find it in any site. Anyone with a title? I would appreciate. Woofay. I am local and fairly close to Aurora which means that he is not very far from me. I am actually kind of exited but at the same time this peace has come over me. Kind of like when you know you are taken care of. Funny, I have not even meet the man yet and I already see in my mind how my life will be after the surgery. I use a lot of visualization. I think i will brave it and meet you at the Red Robin event. I will be the one looking totally lost. I would be interesting to see and hear your experiences. Want2bemeagain. I so wish all goes well with you on Tuesday. I can understand you feeling freaked out. Try visualizing your whole experinced. Give it a try. I often do public speaking for my job and I always run the whole event in my head prior it seems to work. I am sure you will do fine. You are so brave. The more I read about this procedure the more I am at awe at all of you. So can someone tell me what is the protocol in providing all the little information at the bottom of your messages. I am sorry my postings are boring and plain. I will work on making them more interesting Me. -

Hello Again, WOW! I am glad I found you all, I did not expect to get such thoughtful answers and quick replies. I appreciate the questions which of course while some are basic I seem to have problem with basic. they are now part of my little list that I am prepraring for my visit. Yet as with any new piece of information new questions arise and I guess I am very unfamiliar with the lingo and the acronyms. Is there a place where I could go and get a handle on that besides a medical dictionary. Can someone tell me what is erosion and slippage. I mean I think I know what it is but in terms of the lap band. Also anyone there with a hietal hernia. How did you dealt with it in regards to having the lap band done. I will try to keep you updated on how things progress. Thank you again. -

Hello! I found this forum as I am considering Dr K. Things sort of work out farily quickly when I decided that this is what I wanted. Reading this forum has alliviated some of my concerns but I guess what I need help from those of you who are going throught this. Everytime I am in front of a Dr I sort of freeze and my mind goes blank. Can you help me with some questions you asked or hoped you would have asked. I got some but if you help me I can kind of come in with a list. I decided 3 weeks that this is what I wanted to do, within 2 days I got the finacial aspect handled and I got my appt Monday. All I have to do is get my date.I know I want Dr K even thought I have not met him. I am very comfortable with their office staff and somehow I got this gut feeling that I need to go with him. Crazy but since things are moving fast and short of reading the 100's of posting which I have read a great deal I need the just of it. Anyone there to help a newbie! Please know that your stories are inspiring and I am glad I found this forum. Thank you in advance.
