Complications. Pulmonary Embolism, anyone?
QueenA replied to MrDel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Were any of you taking lovenox prior to surgery? I only ask as I am currently on this therapy due to my history of blood clots. My surgery is tomorrow so I just want to make sure all is covered. Good luck on your recovery. -
So I was a little "bad" this weekend...

You look so good!!!! Thanks for sharing. -
I am getting sleeved on Tuesday. Am on day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet. Am definitely going through deep thoughts but overall they are all happy ones. Good luck to you tomorrow. Keep me posted on how it goes.

As I sit here getting a mani pedi as my surgery is scheduled on Tuesday 5/6, I can't help but wonder how everything leading up to here just fell in place. I started off disappointed in my first consult back in February to meeting with my current and final surgeon for an initial consult on 4/4 and 1 month later, I am going in for the sleeve. All my pre-op visits lined up from psych eval to endoscopy to insurance approval turned around in less than 48 hours. It feels so SURREAL! I start my liquid diet tomorrow and am excited yet a little scared for Tuesday but with all the support I have been receiving through your posts, I am going in strong. I'll be posting soon after surgery. Best of luck to all my same day fellow sleevers and all others. Thanks Alex for creating this resourceful site.

Only 2 weels left! Will my BCBS approve by then?
QueenA posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Who else is scheduled for surgery on 5/6? I have a pool of mixed emotions. Anxious and excited ranking at the top. My paperwork will be submitted to my insurance BCBS of Illinois this week and am hoping it's enough time for an approval to be returned. Please pray for me! -
Lol @ Danaevett - that's the spirit. I am scheduled for 5/6 so see you on the losing side :-)

You look great!

Hi, I'm new here!
QueenA replied to skinniminiwannabe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely call your insurance. I would even recommend you call twice to speak with different people to confirm the information. You should also have information available on your insurance's website. Read the fine print. I say all this because the benefits coordinator at the first surgeon's office I visited went online and printed a document that stated I needed to show proof of a 6 month supervised diet. I was completely discouraged. Luckily my sister went on my insurance website and read different - no supervised diet other than meeting the basic requirements. I called them twice and confirmed as well. Good luck! -
In my case, I consulted with 3 surgeons and my final decision was based on how comfortable I felt. Of course, critical criteria which I asked directly were as follows: - How many years have you been practicing? - How many procedures for each type of surgery? - How many patients have had complications and why? - Patient reviews etc.... In my case, the surgeon that sold me the most was the one that not only talked about the different types of procedures in depth but also took the time to explain the fundamental relationship between our brain and food. That was key to me as he spent quite a considerable amount reinforcing how this was a tool and that the majority of work would be on me to change my lifestyle. I found his focus on the nutrition part golden cause that is what ultimately makes us gain the weight. Hope this helps and good luck with your final decision!

You look awesome! Thanks for the inspiration. -
I am a Zumba addict pre-op and currently attend 2 intense 90 minute classes weekly. I know I won't be able to go back immediately after surgery but just wondering if any post op sleevers have experience to share on how soon they were able to get back. FYI I have my last pre-op visit next week and will ask the question then but was just curious to hear from others.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the good vibes and feedback. I talked to the coordinator and she has assured she will be submitting everything tomorrow :-) This is my final item on my check off list! I just want to say I love this forum and the ability to post and hear back from fellow WLS participants like you :-) Wishing all of you the best as well on this great journey. -

Bypass and blood clotting disorder

Thanks @Bookworm. It's good to hear from someone that can relate :-) -
Please follow up with your doctors office for the appropriate coaching post op. Not sure if it was already shared with you but if not you need to seek help ASAP. My surgeon had a patient that tried eating chicken wings 3 weeks post op and ended up with a massive leakage and back in the hospital for days. It's absolutely not worth the additional pain and suffering. Please reach out to your bariatric center. You need to talk with a nutritionist and therapist ASAP. Hoping all works out better.

Bypass and blood clotting disorder

Am indeed in the same boat and getting sleeved on 5/6. Am on Coumadin for life since I have already 2 episodes of blood clots. I know I'll need to be on lovenox and walk a lot right after. Let's chat. -
Have you tried Bare Necessities? It's an online store. Their bathing suits are pricey BUT really good for plus sizes. I have bought a few from there as I also buy my bras.

Call your insurance directly and ask for surgeons in your network. You should also be able to search on their website.
