    June sleevers, check-in!

Me too! Isn't it awesome? I mean, when I eat I enjoy the food but I'm not consumed by what my next meal or snack will be. I don't LUST for food anymore. Lol What a relief!

    Antacids, how long?

Thanks everyone! I never needed antacids pre surgery. So I guess I'll go to two months then start skipping days/weaning off it and see how it goes.
  4. Hi all! Tomorrow will be five weeks. I was sleeved June 5th in TJ by dr Corvala. No problems at all. I'm down 38 lbs and four jean sizes. The striped shirt is two days before surgery, tight 24 jeans. The blue shirt is yesterday in 16w jeans. I'm thrilled with my sleeve! So glad I didn't chicken out!
  5. Congratulations! 30 lbs is a huge difference! I lost 38 lbs so far and today at a doctor appt the nurse put the regular size blood pressure cuff on me! First time in probably 3 years I didn't need the big one! Also, we think 30 lbs doesn't sound like much compared to what we need to lose but then I pick up my toddler who weighs about 30lbs and it's really amazing to feel how much extra burden we had been carrying around all day, every day. Great job!

    June sleevers, check-in!

HW- 278 SW- 270 CW- 247 Surgery was June 5th. No complications. Feeling really good but I do get weak and lightheaded sometimes. It's my own fault. I'm SURE I'm not drinking enough or getting enough Protein. I have 5 kids 7 years and younger and it has been very hard keeping track of everything and getting in walks. But I figure I'm doing my best and if I'm not getting enough protein there's not much I can do about it since I can't force down any more than what im already getting in. I have three protein meals a day and aim for 2 Protein shakes a day. But the shakes are the only thing I've had a really hard time getting down. They make me feel sick for some reason. it sucks since that's the easiest way to get protein in. But it's really nice being on soft food now. Enjoying tuna, meatloaf, eggs, etc. nothing I've eaten has bothered me at all, thankfully. I'm so thrilled to have dinner with my family again!

    Whats your "full" signal?

I'm almost 4 weeks out. When I was first learning I would eat until it felt like it was backing up into my throat. Seriously only a few bites. Not like I was trying to pig out or anything. Lol now I don't really have anything that happens but I just get this feeling like "I'm done. No more." It's kind of weird to just know "ok that's enough." Even when your head wants more. But I haven't had the backed up to my throat sensation in quite awhile so I guess I've figured it out now.

    June 2014 Dates!?

Can someone give me the link to the Facebook group please? congrats to everyone!!!
  12. I had surgery in Mexico. No complications. But I'm scheduled for a local bariatric doctor follow up (and dietician). They asked where I had surgery and I told them. No issues whatsoever. My first appointment couldn't be until mid July but they told me to call if I'm having any trouble. Also, I don't know if my insurance will cover it or not but they will get the bill and we will see what happens. I don't mind paying for a couple visits for the peace of mind and nutritional advice. Anyway, my point in this is it really depends on the doctor if they will follow up with you. I'm sure there are other doctors besides this one who are willing. (This is in the US)

    Ok this is bugging me

To those talking about dr. Corvala, I just had my surgery by him three weeks ago. Highly recommend! I had no issues at all. Not even nausea. I was there 5 nights. They were unable to get an IV in me the night before surgery. This happens EVERY time I need an IV but I was extra dehydrated from traveling so I had a pic line in my chest. It was done in an operating room and cost us $400 extra. The one who did it said that's only his second time having to do one for a surgery patient though so not a common issue. Meds to go home with were are $200. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Very nice hospital. Excellent care and staff. And I'm down 31lbs already!

    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Just checking in! I'm 11 days post op. I was pretty miserable for the first week but each day has gotten better and better. A couple incisions are still sore but this morning I took 4 of my little kiddos to the high school and walked a mile on the track! when I got home from TJ one week ago exactly i had gained 8 lbs from fluids. In this past week I have lost the 8 plus 15 more! 23 lbs in a week!!! I'm ecstatic! I just wanted to encourage everyone newly out of surgery or in the first week. Everything gets better and better each day out! I regretted it the first week and now life is good! Still adjusting of course and getting tired of liquids and purees but it's all worth it!

    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Hello fellow sleevers! My surgery was exactly one week ago today! I was miserable this whole time until yesterday afternoon when I decided to start full liquids with Protein powder mixed in. I feel like a new person now! Up until yesterday I was so dizzy and lightheaded with no energy. I'm very thankful I haven't had any nausea or vomiting and no problems getting Water down. My problem was horrible diarrhea (like 20 minutes after drinking any significant amount). It was terrible getting home from Tijuana on Monday. I visited every bathroom in two airports and my husband had to find a gas station every 30 min on our 5 hour drive home. But we made it! And now that problem is improving significantly! I was VERY swollen all over this week until about the last two days. I weighed when we got home on Monday and I was up 8lbs from pre-surgery. 3 days later and I'm down 10 1/2. Yay! I'm soooo excited for the next few months. I hope everyone else is recovering nicely and feeling well.
  16. In two days I will be on a plane heading to San Diego! And on Thursday I will have surgery in Tijuana. Im packing, cleaning, getting everything set for the kiddos (We have five little ones) and ordering stuff I'll need postop so it's here when we get back. Just had to take a moment to stop for a little bit of crazy and say- I am seriously having 85% of my STOMACH permanently removed in three days!!!?? Oh my goodness. It's so weird and scary and exciting at the same time. I'm soooo scared to fly and have surgery. I hope everything goes fine. I'm going to miss my babies so much. Ah, I'm a wreck. Can't wait until this is all over and we are home again...

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

I was sleeved yesterday (5th)! Doing very well. The only pain is in my chest and left shoulder from the gas. Haven't had any liquids by mouth yet and im kinda scared to try. Also, the whole time I have had that burning, gurgling sensation of hunger but I realize it's the acid talking so it's not bothering me too much. I am going to ask my surgeon about medication for that when I see him today. I'm in hospital angeles in Tijuana and truly cannot say enough positive things. Beautiful hospital, wonderful, kind people, and little difficulty with communication. Many speak English. Soooo nice to be on the other side of this! We won't be going home to Michigan until Monday. Good luck to the future June sleevers!

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

My kids are what makes this the scariest thing for me too. I have five kids ages 2-7. I'm heartbroken to be leaving them at home for a week to do this. My son asked me if I'm going to die. I can't say "no" because that is a risk no matter how small... But thankfully we have a very strong faith in God being in control of our lives so that helps us. I'm the most concerned about not having enough energy to keep up with the kids the first few months post op. But that will pass. Good luck to you! I'm glad to not be the only mom of young kids doing this!

    You're so vain...

50 lbs ago I wanted surgery so I could look better. now since I have been gaining so much, so quickly I have never been more uncomfortable in my life! No health problems so far but I want, more than anything, to be active with my kids.i want to jump into living life actively instead of watching everyone else. I want to walk up stairs and not be winded. I want to tie my shoes without holding my breath and jump up from the floor easily and effortlessly. I want to go for a run! Of course, looking good is immediately next in line to feeling good, for me. I can't wait to be with my husband with the lights on! Haha it's been years! Wow... And I'm dying to go shopping in the regular sizes. Surgery is scheduled for next Thursday and I cannot wait!

    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Hello! Another June sleever here! I've been lurking for weeks and finally figured out how to reply to threads. Lol I'm on day 7 of the pre op diet (5lbs down woo-hoo!) surgery date is June 5th in Tijuana with dr. Corvala. In exactly one week I will be packing up and getting our kiddos settled with my parents. Anyone else with small children having major anxiety about having surgery? This will be my first flight (I have a big fear of flying) and first time with general anesthesia so I've been getting pretty emotional about something going wrong.
