  1. Your comparison of your weight to a scarlet letter is exactly how I feel. I'm not a shut in, but I didn't go to my high school reunion and I dodge people that I used to go to school with because I am embarrassed of how much weight I have gained. I'm having my surgery this Wednesday. Last pre-op appointment tomorrow. Thank you for sharing your story. It sure makes me look forward to all the good that can come out of it. Enjoy your new life. I'm proud of you!

    Hair hair and more hair

Ok, I'm pre-op so I'm just trying to gather all the info I can from all the pro's and as I was reading your post, I was thinking, "Oh, that's a lot of Iron..." then I got to this part and almost choked. Sorry your constipated....but happy you talk like I do.

    emotional eating.....wtf

Thank you for the advice. I'm sorry you are going through this. I kept telling myself that maybe I didn't need the surgery because I am stronger than a food addiction, but the pre-op diet has proven me wrong. It is really hard. I'm sad that I have allowed food to take over but so hopeful that I can make a lifestyle change with the surgery. Can I ask why you think you didn't lose much weight? Did you eat things you shouldn't or allow portion sizes to get bigger again? I'm not trying to be too personal and if you don't want to share then obviously, it's up to you. Just asking since you put it out there. Other than speaking to a professional, you sound like you would have some good advice and we could learn from you. Thanks again for putting it out there.

    Any April Sleevers?

For those of you asking about the protein shakes, my favorite so far has been the Premier Protein. They have 30 g of protein and only 3 carbs. The chocolate is really good (for a shake). I've heard others like the vanilla but it was really super sweet to me and I didn't like it. I bet it would be good with some strawberries in it....but I can't have them on pre-op diet so saving those shakes until later. They also have a strawberry flavor that I haven't tried yet. You can get them at Costco or Sam's Club. But make sure you read the labels. They sell one that has 15 g protein and the one I get is 30 g. I figure you should go with the higher protein since that's the ultimate goal, right? My date is the 16th. I think I said that earlier on here, but there are a couple of April postings so I can't remember. Anyways, good luck to all and keep us posted!!!

    April 2014 pre-op group

Is anyone else grumpy on the pre-op diet? Just wondering....it might just be me being a little overwhelmed with trying to get everything in place for my surgery but it's like my emotions are a little all over the place. I'm usually not like this. Weird....

    Any April Sleevers?

Thank you so much for coming back and letting us know how it went. You hear it from people who had it years ago and I kind of think it's like having a baby in that you dismiss some of the freaking out part and it seemed easy looking back. It's really good to hear from someone who just went through it and it's all fresh in their mind. Maybe it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be. Thanks again for sharing this soon after surgery. Calms my nerves.....

    Any April Sleevers?

I'm April 16th! Feel free to send me private message so we can follow each other and get tips from someone in the same stages. That goes for any of you April people. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Ready to get it done and start the new life I'm looking forward to.
  9. So I told my boss I was going to be out for WLS and she acted all sad for me. Like really? You just need to exercise and eat right....you need to make more time for you....and started telling me about her obese friend who lost over 100 lbs on her own. Then she told me later that if i have it, I just need to be honest when people ask me how I'm losing weight. She said a friend of hers had surgery and then told everyone she was doing water aerobics. That was one of the first people I told outside of my family and the negative reaction stuck with me the rest of the day. Unfortunately, I do not have tough skin and it bothers me when people try to shove their opinions down my throat. So for now, I've decided not to tell anyone else. Did you tell anyone outside of your family? If not, how did you answer the "what are you doing to lose weight" question. I know it's my body and my business but just curious how you all handled it. 4/16/14 is my date...

What did you tell people at work?

Honestly I didn't feel any need to tell anyone at work but then my boss said, "Just don't lie about it like other people I know. One girl said she does water aerobics and I had to tell her to stop lying." Really? Wow. I don't think it's lying if she really is doing aerobics but it's not their business "how" she's losing weight anyways! If you had a tummy tuck or something would that be everyone's business, too? I told her that maybe in time that I might feel free to discuss it but for now I'd appreciate it if she kept it between us. She said someone might be able to benefit from it if they were contemplating surgery...well not being ugly but they can do their research just like I did. Besides, I know most of the catty, two faced people that would be bold enough to ask me directly are not asking because they need help to lose weight. It's because they are nosey. Another girl in my office had surgery and some of them were bold enough to ask me what she was doing to drop weight so quickly. I told them to ask her. Geez. Some people just have nerve! I wish I was confident to just not care and come straight out but it's like a bunch of mean girls in high school and of course they are all tiny...Oh well. I'll come up with something.

  12. I'm still trying to figure out how all of this works. I've been on this site for months now looking for info prior to obtaining my surgery date and now I have it. 4/16/14. I was wondering if any of you were so ready for the surgery up until you got your date and then you started freaking out. I'm really nervous about it. Don't get me wrong I'm excited as can be but, scared about this huge commitment I'm about to jump into. Anyone else feel that way prior to your surgery?
  13. Thank you. You are totally right. Give up and let God.....
  14. Great work! You are doing awesome! Success stories like your really are great to see right before my surgery. Keep up the good work!
  15. Yes I am and I've prayed a lot about it and will continue to pray. Thank you.

What did you tell people at work?

Ok thanks everyone. I'm still thinking I don't want to tell my coworkers because of some of the reasons you all have listed. They are very gossipy and I'm not sure I want everyone to know. Maybe later I will feel so confident I won't mind telling but not yet. I really hate that my boss made it sound like her friend was intentionally being deceitful when she didn't tell someone that asked that she had surgery. She told me it could be helpful to someone who is thinking about the surgery. I get that but I think I need to concentrate on me for a little while and worry about others later. Most of the people at my job that would have the nerve to come straight out and ask about it wouldn't be asking because they want help, but because they are Nosey Neddies and just want something else to gossip about at lunch. Still on the fence, but thinking I'm not telling. Just wish that I wasn't even worried about how I will handle any questions when I return to work.
  17. I'm having my surgery 4/16. I'm the mother of three and my husband travels a lot so I'm trying to use the next two weeks to prep food, etc so I'm equipped for after the surgery in case he goes out of town. Any suggestions on prepping food ahead of time? I know I will be on clear liquids then regular liquids then purees so the liquids part will be quick to fix as I need it. But what about purees. Any suggestions on purees to freeze? I want to be ready because I will be right back in mommy mode then back to work shortly after.....any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  18. Yes!!! Sexy, too! I'm ready to get rid of this high blood pressure and just feeling run down all the time and too tired to chase my kids around at the playground....but.... I can't wait to feel Sexy again, as well!
  19. Thank you! I know I'm making the right decision and that I will be so glad I did, afterwards. It's just getting through these next two weeks and trying not to over think everything. I'm so glad you had a speedy recovery and are doing well. Good luck on your journey!

What can I do to prep pre-op?

Ok, thank you. I am definitely overthinking everything. It's like I'm in that "nesting" stage when you are pregnant. Trying to get everything ready for my new post op life. I think a lot of it is nerves, too.
  21. Awesome. That's another great way to think about it. We eventually will be the ones telling people not to be nervous and our success stories.

    emotional eating.....wtf

My surgery date is 4/16 and I'm doing the same thing. I'm going down a mental list of foods I am going to miss and having them each day. It's crazy. The food funeral is a great way to put it. I understand I can have a lot of these later, in much smaller portions but some I just need to say goodbye forever. Good luck!

    gastric sleeve

Congratulations! My surgery is 4/16 and I'm trying not to freak out. It really helps seeing comments from someone that just started.
  24. Thank you. We DO deserve this. I'm glad you mentioned thinking "how could I let myself get this way." That's another thought that I've been thinking a lot lately. I've pretty much avoided anyone that I went to high school with because I don't want them to think that I just really let myself go. That's one thing I've really got to stop doing is caring about what anyone thinks. Have you told anyone besides close family and friends? I didn't plan on telling anyone, but I am not good at keeping things short and sweet.
  25. April 17th is my day and I totally know what you mean. I'm really excited but I'm scared as well. I think since I've failed at every other attempt to lose weight I am super nervous about it. This is truly a lifestyle change. Surgery in itself is scary enough.
