April 16th role call - who's with me!

Yes. Just plain water. So maybe a little crystal lite you think? I can't use the whole pack anymore. It's too sweet. But maybe just a little.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I got mine the day before surgery so I still have a little while to go..... Question, if this has already been discussed, plesse forgive me.... What do you all do for nausea? I am finding when I do my walking either outside or at the gym, I am getting really nauseous. I'm drinking Water the whole time and then afterwards, I just feel really sick. I'm on full liquids now and so far the only thing that helps is hot tea. Anyone else getting nauseous this far out?

I'm sorry you're having trouble, but I'm glad it wasn't something worse. UTI's are awful though, so I hope that antibiotic kicks it fast. Sip that water girl. Feel better!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I am taking prilosec. Ive gotten heartburn really badly a few times so I just take it every day until I start eating something besides clear liquids. Hoping when I add actual foods that it will tone down some. But things like crystal light that normally didn't give me heartburn have set my chest on fire lately.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Oh and thank you all for letting me blab on like this is my own personal diary. This has really been a mental struggle for me. Physically, I'm doing well. Mentally, it's been harder than I've ever expected. But, I've stuck strictly to my Dr's plan and I'm very proud of that!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Ok cool. Thanks BlueSea. I was starting to wonder if something was wrong or if I should have been feeling full sooner. But that's pretty much what happens to me. I feel pressure, almost like I swallowed a gas bubble, so I stop drinking for a few minutes then I can drink again in a few. I didn't know if that was similar to a full feeling or if I was drinking too fast or both. I go back to the dr on Thursday and should be able to progress to all liquids, so I'm really excited about it!!!! I'm sure you ladies are tired of hearing my talk about clear liquids, but it's truly been the hardest thing I've ever done. I haven't been physically hungry but I've had a whole lot of head hunger, especially fixing dinner for my kids when my husband is out of town. It's hard not to desire something that you have used as a vice for so many years. I didn't realize how addicted to food I was until I couldn't have it! I've even had dreams about food. How pathetic is that? But, I'm down 27 lbs so clear liquids sure is working!!!!!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Just curious for all of you that have had some sort of food. When I'm drinking my clear liquids, I feel like I can sip all day. Just little sips, all day long and rarely get to the point where I feel I need to stop. When you all added food, did you get full a lot quicker? I'm assuming it's because the clear liquids basically just go right through and don't have to be digested at all. Was there a huge difference when you added protein shakes or food? Just wondering if I'm the only one not feeling full or if it's just the liquids......

    Ugh...cant get it in

I am 13 days post op and only on a clear liquid diet. I have had diarrhea since about day 3. Basically my surgeon said in so many words, liquid in liquid out. Not trying to be gross, but it might not bw the protein shakes, might just be your body trying to adjust? But then again, I have heard from others that protein gives them diarrhea in the beginning. My NUT said to always go back to clear liquid diet if yoy have trouble tolerating something and add new items one at a time and a little at a time. Hope this helps...

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Congrats on going back to work. I hope all went well! I went to the gym today and got in a mile on the treadmill then walked again outside this evening. I don't have a whole lot of energy on this clear liquid diet. I'm hoping on Thursday when I can add cream of wheat, oatmeal, and strained cream soups, my energy level will pick up some. I'm dragging, but getting in my walking so I feel good about it.

Mmmm hummus. Can't wait to get off clear liquids! I feel like I'm about to lose my mind. It's torture cooking! My husband is out of town so I'm making meals. Ugh. But enough about me, I'm glad you are getting some relaxation and enjoying the outdoors. You'll be back on the trails before you know it!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

That stinks! My nutritionist told me to go back one stage in the diet if this happens. For example, if you are on all liquids go back to Clear Liquids or if you are on purees go back to all liquids. Just for a day or two until you start feeling better. Then, slowly add in one food at a time so you can see if there's a certain food that you aren't tolerating well. I'm still on clear liquids so I can't offer anything from experience.....but that's what I wrote down from our visit. Hope you feel better.

    Blurred vision

A nurse told me that my vision would be blurry from the anti nausea patch behind my ear and would be worse for a few hours after I remove it. But the next morniny it was fine.

    Question about the liquid diet

Each surgeon is very different in their instructions. I had my surgery on the 16th and I'm on clear liquids only for the first two weeks....so I would call your dr tomorrow. Good luck. I hope you get a banana. Sounds delicious right about now....

    April 2014 pre-op group

I am only allowed clear liquids and skim milk for my protein for the first two weeks post op. I talked to my surgeon because I'm really having trouble getting in the skim milk because I've always hated milk (was allergic to it as a child). He said for me, for the first two weeks, my focus should be on getting enough fluids in and staying hydrated. My stomach has been a gurgley mess but I'm getting fluids in. But I am starting to worry about what kind of effects this very low protein will have on me after 2 weeks. But I guess he knows best. I'm getting in my vitamins for the most part so hopefully it will be ok. I tried one of those clear New Whey Protein shots that you can get at Walmart. They are clear and 42 g protein so I thought I'd try it. It is so gross but I figure it's better than no protein so I'm slowly choking it down. Any other suggestions for protein on a clear liquid diet?

April 16th role call - who's with me!

BlueSea - I totally know what you are talking about! After my last two kids, I was constantly getting urinary tract infections and actually had to go see a urologist because of frequent infections and frequent potty breaks. I even quit drinking caffiene to try to elleviate the problem and it helped but any time I had a caffienated beverage I could feel it coming on. Another problem was my blood pressure medicine. I had to take a prescription diuretic and I literally went every 30 minutes some days. Well, the last dose was the day of my surgery and the dr told me not to take that for the next two weeks and see how my BP does with just the one medication. So, no more waking up 3 or more time to go in the middle of the night! So again, I totally understand this victory and hope I can stay off this water pill forever!

To answer your question, not trying to be gross, as soon as I started the clear liquid diet, I went into cleansing mode. Then, they made me drink miralax the night before my surgery and it got worse till there was nothing left. Now, 6 days post op, I'm still on a clear liquid diet for two weeks, so it started over again two days after my surgery. My dr said it's normal and will get better when I'm able to add all liquids and some items of substance. So again, not trying to be gross or discouraging but want to be completely honest based on my experience thus far. Good luck! Just follow their instructions and you should do well.
