April 16th role call - who's with me!
mysleeveid13 replied to Bluesea71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Bluesea - to answer your post about what I'm eating....so far, I've had eggs (with and without cheese), beef jerky tenders, they are more tender than beef jerky and I just chew and chew until they get rehydrated and swallow just a little bit at a time, several different kinds of pureed or really soft cooked beans, I got some sizzling rice soup from a Chinese restaurant nearby but I strained ot the rice and veggies and just ate the broth and the shrimp and chicken (again, eating really slow and chewing everything up until it was a pureed consistancy), pulled pork, chicken or egg salad or potato salad (only without pickles because the one time I had it pureed with pickles I got really sick really quick). I haven't done much with the protein shakes. My NUT said she would rather me get my protein from food than shakes, so that's what I've been trying to do. I need to be better about keeping up with my calories and protein...but I'm eating so little that I haven't been. Just a couple of bites here when it's time to eat. I don't think I get "hungry" anymore....I get "empty" and decide if it's time for more fluid or a couple bites of food. I made a huge crockpot full of pintos and used country ham pieces to season it and probably had a quarter of a cup at the time. The meat was really tender after being in the crockpot all day so it was really good. Oh and string cheese has been good to me. And my nut told me to try really thin sliced deli meat so I had some high dollar rare roast beef slices from the deli and cheese. It was delicious....but honestly they handed me a sample of the meat and it was such a big sample that I didn't even open the meat until the next day as I was full from the sample! I hope this gives you some ideas. Still having horrible heartburn all day not matter what I eat or drink. They even gave me prescription medicine to take and it only helps for a little while. I drink decaf unsweet tea with splenda all day. I fill it completely with ice and as the ice melts throughout the day it turns to water with with a hint of tea flavor...but for some reason that's the only way to get in my fluids or watered down gatorade.... -

Our bariatric nurse told us no gum because it creates more saliva triggering hunger because you are swallowing the saliva and juices from the gum as you chew it and your body thinks that food should be coming down so you feel hungry....not exactly the way that she put it but close enough....and I did hear if you swallow it that it could cause blockage.... -

Ohhh and completely off topic....I got to try hummus (per previous posts, I've been craving it for a few weeks now). The garlic taste was soooo strong to me. Couldn't even finish a tiny bite! Not sure if it was just because I was eating it by itself or my taste buds changing but whew! I've also had eggs, ate a half a boiled egg and it sat like a rock in my tummy. Scrambled where good. I had some pureed chicken salad. Used just low fat mayo and a tad of regular mayo and some Mrs Dash table blend seasoning and it was great. So a few days later I tried pureeing Publix chicken salad. Don't know if it was the pickles or full fat mayo but I got real sick and won't try that again. Went out to eat after my son's pre-k graduation. Had a really small piece of grilled chicken. It was really tender so I just cut off itty bitty bites and chewed until there was hardly anything left. And a couple of bites of baked potato. Just ate really slow and chewed until my jaws hurt. It all went down well. I have pureed some Boca Veggie Burgers, too. They were really good. They have about 17 g of Protein for a whole one and I can only eat half of one at a time. But I'll have the other half later in the day. Even totally plain they were really good to me. Except I ate one too fast the other day and it made me sick. Oh and made pinto Beans in the crockpot. They were so tender and flavorful! I put 4 oz servings in little tiny mason jars and froze them for when I go back to work. It still is really such a huge change to eat slow! I'm good at taking tiny bites. Got me a cocktail fork and some baby spoons to help me and it works great. But I'm constantly reminding myself to eat slow. Sorry for the long post, but I always like to read what everyone is eating to get ideas and I am so happy to finally be getting some food down, I had to share! -

I wouldn't worry about what they say....Although I know I take everything personally, too and get my feelings hurt often. Just keep doing what you are doing and they will continue to see the results. Sometimes adults are just as mean as kids.....so they might be seeing results and just don't want to admit that the surgery works..... On the same note....I am very fortunate to be off for the full 6 weeks after surgery. I haven't decided yet what I'll tell people when I go back. I've shared with a few friends outside of work, but I work with a bunch of catty females and I've heard the comments they make about others that have had the surgery and shared or didn't share and they found out later. For those of you that have gone back to work, did you tell or keep it to yourself? I wish I didn't care what people say about me.....and maybe eventually I won't. But just curious what you all said -

My dr told me to use miralax...but that can take a while unless you have to take a lot like I did for my pre-op diet....but....my dr said to use miralax and go back on clear liquids for a couple of days until it resolves itself. I heard you aren't supposed to do a full "cleanse" after surgery to avoid dehydration......so you probably want to call your dr and insist that you talk to someone today......sorry I'm not more help. Before surgery, there's a lot you can use.....After, I'm not so sure.... -

Sorry to the guys that have joined recently, but we talk about everything on here so..... Anyone having really heavy periods after surgery? Mine were usually light, short, and no cramps due to my birth control pill. This one came a week early and is ridiculously heavy and has gone on over a week. I'm sure it's due to the sudden weight loss and changes going on with my body but man, I'm ready for it to go away! Anyone else having this issue? -

Ok this is going to sound really weird, but I just have to share. ....I really enjoy putting on lotion and washing my arms and legs now. (Not that I didn't enjoy bathing before) strange I know....but the reason why is because they already feel so much smaller! It's like there is less surface area to clean! I know I sound crazy. But I can't believe the differences already. I guess 2 weeks of clear liquid and 2 weeks of full liquids is really paying off. I'm totally not bragging. ..just felt good about something for once and had to say it! Anybody else noticing weird things you've never thought of before? -

Ironically, I just emailed my dr earlier today to ask him what to get for constipation. I'll let you know what he says tomorrow. Let me know what your dr says as well about both....hope you are ok. -
That is awesome!!!! You almost made me cry reading it! I totally know the feeling of not wanting to try on clothes. I got so bad that my husband started buying stuff for me and bringing it home because he wanted me to have new clothes but I never wantes to shop. Congratulations!!!!

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know.....if there's anyone else getting nauseous, when all else fails, my dr told me to try sugar free cinnamon candy. Guess what?! It helps! Just thought I'd share. The zofran helps, too but in case you need something in between times when you can take your medicine, it's handy. -

Bluesea, I thought of you today....I was standing in front of the Sabra Hummus trying to decide if I could figure out a way to make it a "liquid" so I could add it to my diet. Ever since you mentioned it I've had a huge craving for it. It would probably make me sick anyways but since they are saying runny grits or oatmeal qualifies for the liquid diet, I wanted to try to add hummus, too! Oh well. I didn't buy it. I'll get some soon enough. All in my head, I know. I'll just live vicarously through you guya telling me the new foods you are adding. Haha. -

thank you butterfly2014. Oh I did find something that works well for me. Luigi's Italian Ice. They have a sugar free one and they are so good. I eat those when nothing else works. so if you get tired of sf popsicles, try these! -

Thank you, Miss Trish! I will ask him about it. I'm willing to try anything at this point because it's getting to where I can't lay down at night because of the heartburn. -
April 2014 pre-op group
mysleeveid13 replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm three weeks out and I feel like I've gone backwards. I wasn't sick at all the first two weeks on clear liquids. Then, I started all liquids for weeks 3 & 4 and I'm constantly nauseous. Water , crystal lite, anything but unsweet tea with splenda gives me horrible heartburn. I'm on priolosec and he gave me zofran for the nausea. I guess I need to go back to clear liquids for a few days. Anyone else having nausea issues? I was so happy I felt so good post op now I feel gross. Blech! -

So....I hate to admit it, but on the clear liquid diet, I did fine for 2 weeks. I never felt sick and the only time I felt nauseous was after I took my calcium citrate. Then, I moved to all liquids for weeks 3 and 4 and I'm nauseous a lot!!! I just drank a few ounces of Protein shake and I feel so nauseous. I'm going to take the zofran he just prescribed and see if that helps. I know we are all different, but it feels like I'm going backwards. I did so well in the hospital and made it through with virtually no issues and now it's like I feel sick a lot! I even threw up for the first time the other night after having strained soup! Thankfully, I'm out of work on disability because I couldn't go feeling this nauseous every day. I think I'm going to go back to just Clear Liquids to see if that helps. But it's weird for me to see a lot of you moving on to purees or soft foods and here I am sick on liquids? Anyone else sick? And Bluesea, I bet you're tired. I'm so tired just taking care of my kids. I don't know how some of you are already back at work. Don't overdo it. -

I totally understand where you are coming from though. I've already had thoughts of how great it feels for this weight to be just falling off during the liquid phase and started wondering how quickly it will stop once I start purees then soft foods and eventually normal foods. So, I think it is totally normal for us to panic a bit based on previous failures....but, they are totally right and we just need not freak ourselves out either. It's so new to us though....so I guess we still have so much to learn. Thanks for sharing. -

Hey ladies, I'm on liquids for weeks 3 & 4 so I can't help there. A couple of answers to other questions that have come up in our forum or whatever we call this.... 1. I got my period 2 weeks early. Never happens because I'm on the pill. Thankfully the cramps haven't been bad but I'm definitely heavier than normal. I think the specific question was if we gained or were bloated....I feel a little bloated, but since I'm on all liquids, I think all the extra fluids I'm drinking has actually helped with bloating. No weight gain as of day one. I guess we talked it up and that's why I started early.... 2. I got some advice from you all about the nausea. I tried using crystal lite instead of plain Water and that seems to be helping. I also called my dr because 3-4 hours of feeling like I was going to vomit was way too much for me. He prescribed zofran. Haven't had the nausea since I picked it up so I'll let you know how it works. But he let me add applesauce to crush up one of my Vitamins in that was really making me nauseous and it wasn't as bad taking it today. I just took really small bites of the Vitamin then a small bite of applesauce to help get it down. He said the calcium citrate was sitting like a rock in my stomach so maybe the liquids wasn't enough to take it with. The unsweetened applesauce was soooooo delicious compared to everything else I've had!!! Made me happy! Ok sorry for the long post but several things have happened that I couldn't answer until now. Bluesea - how are you eating the hummus? By itself? Dipping something in it? I can't wait till I can have it. Just wondering what you were eating it with.... -
Both pictures are beautiful!!!! But your after photo looks even younger! Congratulations!

April 2014 pre-op group
mysleeveid13 replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried the watermelon one (which I normally love anything watermelon flavored) and I have to agree. It was really, really horrible. I choked down about half of it before I thought I was going to throw up. Then, if that all wasn't nasty enough, I kept burping a horrible disgusting watermelon taste for several hours. Will not get those again. -

I haven't tried it post op because I'm still on liquids but on my low carb pre-op diet, I used Hellman's low fat mayo in my tuna. I used low sodium relish (because of my BP) and the normal seasonings that I like and it was good. -
