    1 Year done

On the 4th April it will be 1 year since i had surgery so i have deceied to update if any one wants to read I am now a size 14 ( US 12) my biggest i was a size 26 ( US 24) so i am super stoked with that, i can pretty much go into most stores now and buy something with out having to go to plus size only... though i still have all my extra weight around my stomach/hips so sometimes i find tops a bit tight and i have massive boobs lol they have decreased in size of course but they are still big lol .. If I could go back in time to my early 20's i would make major changes and just do it with eating right and exersize i would not recommend this path for anyone who is young or who hasnt tried everything else first .. I wish i had known how hard it would be and even 1 year out you can not eat any where near a full size meal when you go out, and that you can't drink with meals and that anything too sweet makes you feel so sick i wish i had known that you have to exersize your butt off and it takes real will power .. yes the surgery means you cant over eat but you still need to exersize... this was all explained to me and told to me by everyone before i had the surgery but i was like yeah yeah it will be easy ... the one thing i will say is THIS IS A CHOICE FOR LIFE ... After saying all that though i am glad i had the surgery i guess i am just saying think it thru carefully and make the right choice for you i am finally no longer the "fat" one and that takes some getting used to i am now average i have never in my life been average and only in the last 2 weeks or so have i actually seen myself as a smaller version of myself. I still have 50 odd pounds to go and it is getting very hard to shift this weight but i will get there and in other news hubby and i are planing our next holiday on October we are going back to the states ( we go married in Las Vegas in 2010) and are super excited we are going to LA, New york, chicago & las Vegas so its great to have a goal to work towards I hope to have lost most of the 50lbs left by then so thats my focus .. oh and btw if you didnt know i am from New Zealand

    Carbonated beverages

Geez calm down , it is totally un realistic to think any of us are never ever going to eat or drink something "bad" again .. It comes down to choice .. I have approx 1 glass of coke a week and I am doing fine my dr and everyone is happy with my results and shock horror I have even had McDonald's and kfc once or twice since surgery Of course it shouldn't be a regular thing but there is no need to go to postal on some one for asking a question

    Atkins/Weight Loss

I went thru major stalls, still do it sucks .. i recommened a complete look at what you are eating and how you are exersizing and try to change it up .. surprising at it may sound you might not even be getting enough calories in your diet, also might be a good idea to talk to your nutrisionist first, i dont think going on a regime that exculdes certian food groups is a good idea just my thoughts though

    Loose Skin

I have lost 128 lbs i have not got any loose skin ... yet i still have 50lbs to go but i think personally i will be okay i think it all depoends on your age and your genetic make up etc ... some people seem to really struggle with it and others dont

    Puréed foods already?

I had pureed foods on day 3 whilst still in hospital it seems each doctor is different and has different rules so just stick to whatever your told by your team

I am super stoked , I have never been able to go to a regular store and buy off the rack, always had to go to a plus size store and go to the back of the rack for the 3xl .. feeling happy

    3 days post op

Good luck :-) i am. 11 months post op and I can tell you the first three were the hardest but it will get better :-)
  12. Feeling really good today , I went to buy some new work out pants and the sizing was great I've gone from a size 26 ( us 22) to a size 16 ( us 12) I know I have a little way to go but I'm feeling really good today :-D That is all have a great day :-)
  13. I cried every day for the first three months after my operation ... It does get easier I promise, in relation to the food thing I had the exact same reaction, I honestly had to hold my nose and drink my protien shakes as fast as I could, getting protien is really important so even a pledger added to your water might help... Good luck and hang in there it will get better

    Teens with Gastric Sleeve!

I am almost a year post op and eating out is a real pain, I can only have a very small amount to eat, however that's not the real issue, I. Sorry you are very young and you are making a very big life decision it might pay to talk to a bariatric physiologist about it, but good luck it is a huge choice you need to consider all options :-)

    Going to the bathroom

I was very constipated for a few months I used a fibre supplement, however you need to drink a lot of water with it, good luck :-)

    Post sleeve food intolerance

I'm not sure, but is there any chance she can go somewhere else to get a second opinion even if she pays for it herself ? Or can you talk to your doctor about it and get their opinion?

    Introduction

    Good luck :-)

    From the beginning

I can't answer for everyone, but for me it was 1.5 years from first appointment until surgery, it does depend on how much weight your surgeon wants you to loose before surgery :-)
  20. I had that exactly, lasted about 2 weeks then went away, the doctor said it was okay but just to make sure you don't get dehydrated :-)
  21. Jessiegirl30

    This may sound silly...

    I didn't have to :-)

    Pre Diet

Everyone is told different things, like i said I had optifast protien shakes for 6 weeks before surgery and I have had not one problem with my protien before or since the surgery , so I think you should just follow the advice given by your surgen as you will find out on here everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks they are right :-)
  23. I live in New Zealand , in case you didn't know :-) here we have a national health system , similar to the UK, which means I guess that you don't have to insurance .. But on the down side it means there are long waiting lists for things, and strict criteria for certain surgeries such as bariatric surgery require lots of hoops to jump thru. Most insurance companies here don't cover bariatric surgery because it's not "needed" so if you don't get accepted into the public system, you have to pay approx $30,000 for it privately, I get a bit upset when I read posts about people complaing about things like flabby arms or stretch marks and the like, I also got told well you must have not liked something about you that's why you had surgery... That is simply not true , I didn't have the surgery to get skinny that is a side outcome, i had surgery because I got to 297lbs and I had tried everything to loose weight I had surgery because I didn't want to die at 40 I had surgery because 1 day I might want kids ... Not because I want to look good in a bikini !! I had surgery because I needed to loose something like 170lbs to be in the healthy weight range ( I am really short lol) not just because I need to loose 50lbs . So I apologise if my comments sometimes seem harsh or I upset someone with what I say I am not trying to do it on purpose I am just passionate I guess , I have fought my weight my whole life and I hate to see people hung up on stupid things like stretch marks .. I have an appointment with my dietion today ...she is nice but un realistic lol this I can live of lettuce leaves with an occasional piece of fruit or some such lol she on me that you if you can't picture your food in its natural form then you shouldn't eat it ... I can fully picture a field of hamburgers and red bull... I don't see a problem ...lol just kidding One thing that they don't prepare you for is the mental game .., just because you loose weight doesn't mean you automatically change habits and thinking patterns, I am really struggling with the head space at the moment, I don't know what to do about the part , but im okay I guess :-)
