    Looking for 7/22/14 surgery buddy

This is exactly how I feel. I will be 25 on July 10th. I have been overweight/obese since I was 12. I have struggled and never gotten below 220. I am tired of this battle. Time for me to use this tool that is available and make the most of it! I completely agree with you... I will not be a victim of my weight! I love that!

    Looking for 7/22/14 surgery buddy

Hi, my surgery date is July 31 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I would be happy to buddy up. I will be a week behind, but it will be nice to have support from others that are going through the same things, around the same time.
  3. 1. Having the energy to chase after my kids! 2. Smaller clothes. Going shopping with friends and family members has always made me uncomfortable, because none of the clothes would fit me. I was just along for the show! I want to be able to wear those clothes, own those clothes, and be freakin amazing in those clothes!!! 3. Not having to squeeze myself into my jeans, because I refuse to buy the next size up! 4. Riding rides and not having to have someone come by and help me to latch the harness, and being terrified the whole time that the seat belt will break loose and I will fall to my doom! 5. Two piece bathing suit! I want to be able to wear a two piece bathing suit and be comfortable and feel attractive! Those are just a few... I could probably go on and on!!!

    july 25th date

I know how everyone feels. It is hard to look at yourself in the mirror and not see the person that you know you could be. It won't be long now, and that person staring us back in the mirror will be the one that we always knew was hiding inside! It's just amazing to think that in just a few weeks, we will all be saying goodbye to these unhappy women and starting a new happy relationship with ourselves. Good luck to all!

    july 25th date

I just got the call today that my surgery will be the last week of July! It seems like a dream! I am so excited and I know you are too. Good luck, and here's hoping to speedy recovery! Your pictures just reminded me that I need to do the same thing. I have been putting it off, but I guess I should take them before I have to start the preop diet! Congrats again!

Worried about how to keep kids from getting fat.

This is also one of my biggest concerns. I have three children, my son is 2 1/2 and my daughters(twins) are 15 months. Since I have started doing research on wls, our household's eating habits have changed drastically. Where there used to be chips and Cookies, now there are fresh fruit, vegies, low fat string cheese and yogurts. I have not cut out their Snacks, just made them healthy choices. I am now cooking 95% of the meals that we eat and once a month we go to a sit down restaurant and we all order the healthy choices that are on the menu. My children mean the world to me and I do not want them to go through the struggle of being obese. I am the only one in my family that is obese. All of my adult life and most of my childhood I have been told to lose weight, go on a diet, be better at being me. I do not want this for my kids. Now when someone asks me if my family is dieting (mostly when I am grocery shopping), I tell them no, this is our lifestyle. Hopefully, I can project this new me onto my children and they will make better, healthier choices.
  8. Guess who got a letter? ..... ME!!! I am so relieved and ecstatic! I can't stop smiling Woohoo! Just wanted to update everyone and share my happiness with someone. Yay me!

    Regulated menstrual (tmi for some)

This is part of the reason that I am wanting to have the surgery. I have PCOS and it causes irregular periods or a lack there of. I am hoping that I will be able to have a regular cycle without having to take medication. Here's hoping!

    3 month post-op bloodwork results!

That is amazing @@DeniseNCC1701, I love reading about how successful this surgery is! I can't wait to get a surgery date! I am so excited to be on the other side...lol!
  11. @@HalloweenBaby24 That is great! I will let you know how my appointment goes, it's next Tuesday... excited but nervous. Keep your fingers crossed! @@Sunnyskies2283 My insurance requires five years of weight history, you can get it from multiple doctors. They don't require the supervised diet or 6 months of weigh ins, just the history.
  12. @@Jenelle You are doing great! Some people do lose weight slower. Don't be discouraged by a slow moving scale... have you checked your measurements? A lot of people who lose slower tend to lose inches. Be proud of your success!!!
  13. @@HalloweenBaby24 That is GREAT news! I hope my Ob is as cool about it. This gives me some hope. Yay, one step closer!
  14. My 5 year weigh in will include two pregnancies... let's both hope that insurance isn't that picky and says that those weights don't count. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is a smooth process for all of us!
  15. I can get the weigh-ins from more than one doctor, so that will help. The letter is my big worry. What happens if my Obgyn won't write it? She is really the only "steady" doctor that I have seen other than a pediatrician, and I don't think they would accept a letter from them, even though they are the only doctors that ever put me on a diet. It's been 8 years since I have seen them... just crossing my fingers that the OB will agree that this is the best option for me.
  16. I am in the same boat you are in. I want to my consult appointment on Monday and the only thing standing between me and a surgery date is this letter and the 5 year records of weigh-ins. I am the kind of person who doesn't really go to the doctor unless it is necessary, so as far as a PCP I don't really have one. I have scheduled an appointment with my OBGYN and I am going to take the sample letter and ask for the weigh ins, but I am scared that they won't give it to me. I have never been on a medically supervised diet, I've always just done my own thing. I'm glad I am not the only one with this concern. Nice to know I'm not alone in the boat! Good Luck!

    Any NC sleevers?

I started doing research in February, I went to the seminar in March and support group in April. You got your consultation appointment very fast! I was sitting by the phone waiting on mine, lol! I am just so ready to start towards a healthier, happier ME!!! 6 months will fly by!

    Any NC sleevers?

@@DeeSleeved427, I have my consult on Monday, and I believe that my insurance also requires a 6 month weigh in and supervised diet. I live about 1.5 hours south of Raleigh. Our surgeries will probably be around the same time. Six months seems so close but still some how far away... wishing you the best of luck!
  19. I am so glad that I found this post! Jenelle, thank you for the step by step process. The details are great and it gives me some great insight. I go for my first consultation with the surgeon on Monday and I have started to psych myself out. I keep saying, what if I go through this life changing surgery and don't lose.... crazy huh? I know that this is going to be the best thing I could do for myself and your story has helped to make me excited about it again. Thanks girl!

    Any NC sleevers?

Hi, I am also from NC and I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Monday the 19th. I am hoping that I won't have to have a long supervised diet, but I keep telling myself that even if it is six months from now, that is better late than never!

85% convinced. How do I get to 100%?

I haven't had surgery yet and I am still in the contemplation phase as well. My biggest fear is that, I will have the surgery and the weight won't come off. I know this is probably crazy sounding to most. I have PCOS and was diagnosed at a young age. I have been obese for half of my life because of this condition. The smallest I have been in the past 10 years was 220lbs and I was basically starving myself to get to this weight. I have been a consistent dieter, I eat very small meals now and hardly ever have junk foods. I am just scared that I will have this surgery and not lose anything! My consultation appointment is on May 19, so I am planning on discussing this with the surgeon, dietician, and psychologist. I was so "ready" for this a month ago, now all of these doubts are hitting me. I want to have a peace with this decision and not have any second guesses.....

    Have PCOS-considering VSG

I have struggled with PCOS since I was about 11 years old. My weight has always been the BIGGEST issue I have had (although the abnormal hair growth isn't great either). In the past 10 years the smallest I have been was 220lbs. and the largest was 311, after I had my son. I am hoping that the VSG will not only get me to a healthy weight, but also allow me to be a normal, energetic 25 year old. Lately, I have just been so tired. My weight has been stable for over a year and that's because of diet and light exercise. I just want the battle with PCOS and the weight to be over. I just hope that it doesn't slow down the weight loss with VSG!
