    Feeling Bummed Out

What you're feeling is normal. The various pre-op stages can seem to take forever. There are so many stages; some go rather quickly and some take time. Once you have completed all the tests, procedures and surgeon/psych visits and get your date, then time will seem to fly! Hang in there; your date will be here before you know it.

    March surgery

My surgery was March 18 and I am down 60 pounds as of this morning (since my first surgeon appt in Dec.). I feel pretty darn good. I can finally handle most foods okay and have so much more energy than I did prior to losing this weight. I struggled with experiencing pain when I drank water for about the first month after surgery, but am fine now. Having the surgery was definitely a good decision for me. I'm losing weight at a nice, steady rate (about 11-12 pounds a month, give or take) and haven't hit a big stall yet. I can make it through 18 holes of golf now without being completely exhausted and in pain! Life is definitely good!

I don't know WHAT is going on with me lately

James' advice is spot on. Make sure you are getting enough Water and Fiber each day. I also eat an apple every day. It works better than any ol' stool softener.

    Question about calories

In the beginning, I was taking in between 400 and 600 calories per day. Now, at 9 weeks out, I take in between 700 and 800 calories per day. I don't work out heavily, just short, easy workouts and lots of walking. I haven't hit a stall and am steadily losing roughly 3 pounds per week. This is the number that seems to work for me, but every doctor/program has different requirements. It might be a good idea to have another conversation with your doctor if you're concerned that you're consuming too few calories, especially since you seem to exercise pretty heavily. Good luck.

    Pre-op diet info

You can buy unflavored Protein powder and add a bit to your broth, tea, Water, etc. If you add just a few pinches to each liquid, then you should be able to get in enough protein each day. Good luck to you!

    My Fitness Pal

MyFitnessPal.com is a wonderful website, and phone app, that helps you track your food, exercise, Water intake, weight, etc. It's important to track our food each day and this app makes it so easy. The food database has everything you can possibly think of in it. The food and exercise diary really help keep me on track. Check it out; you will probably really like it.
  18. Hello everyone ~ First, I want to say thanks to all who share their stories, and offer support and advice. Since discovering this site, I have learned so much in addition to what I learned during the pre-op visits to my surgeon's office. Everyone is so supportive and full of wisdom and humor! I am excited to share that I am down 50 pounds since beginning my journey a few months ago. It has been a lot of hard work, and trial and error, but so worth it. To anyone who might be considering WLS, I definitly recommend it, especially if you have health issues. I am now off all prescription medications. My blood pressure is normal again, my arthritis pain has diminished greatly and my fibromyalgia pain has also decreased. Taking 50 pounds of stress off of my heart and joints has improved my health ten-fold already. I can't wait to see how much better I feel after I lose another 50! Rock on, everyone!

    Weight loss worries

Nine pounds in two weeks is pretty darn good! That's an average of 4-5 pounds per week. Don't compare yourself to others, don't dwell on past failures and just keep reminding yourself that you didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, either. You're doing great; be proud of yourself!

    Favorite Food Staples Post-Op?

If you are pressed for time during the week like I am, then you can make, say, a pot of chili or soup on the weekend and freeze individual portions in small, glass containers. This way, I can grab and go. I use glass containers because I don't like to microwave food in plastic. You can freeze so many different foods. It sure makes planning/packing my food for the day (to take to work) quicker and easier in the mornings. You can buy individually wrapped string cheese and those little tuna pouches. Those make for a quick and easy high Protein meal or snack. There are so many high protein foods that come in individual portions now - even peanut butter! Congrats on the 35 pounds gone!

    Update! 60lbs GONE!

Way to go! You look great!

places where you can't bring in food.... ?

Protein bars and nut packs are small enough to carry in your purse. If the venue you are visiting will let you leave and return, then keep an ice chest in your car with any perishable foods.
