Almost 9 months out WoW!

You look absolutely amazing, and I bet you feel amazing too! Such an inspiration! -
I'm getting SO excited! My surgery date is 6/19 and my pre-op liquid diet starts on 6/5. I just had my final appointment at the surgeons office and everything went great! I feel better about the pre-op diet, but honestly that's what I'm most scared about. I can have 5 Protein shakes a day, plus 48-64 oz of other liquids daily (up two 2c broth, sf Jello, sf, Popsicles, any sugar free drinks), plus they want me to have 8 oz of fruit juice daily for calories. They said I should lose 9-15 lbs during this time. Surely, if I get through the two weeks, I can handle the surgery! I'm pumped I told my kids today (ages 9 and 7) that I will be going to the hospital in a few weeks so that the doctor can help me get healthy. They had some good kid-friendly questions for me, and I think I handled it pretty good! Another thing that I'm excited about is not having to refill all of my meds I take daily! They think I will be off of everything! Yay! ????

Hi Pamela! I don't normally get too emotional...Zoloft is good for that I think I'll be pretty cranky during the 2 week diet, but that's different than emotional lol. When I met with the nurse today, she told me I need to pick one kind of shake (one brand) and stick with it. It just dawned on me that she said that, but I don't really know why! Maybe I should call about that, because you would think one brand would get pretty old after a while.

My surgery is on 6/19! I'm soooo excited! I start my liquid diet on 6/5. I had my final appointment at the surgeons office yesterday and feel a little bit better about the diet. That's what I'm most nervous about. I can have 5 protein shakes a day (they suggested Premier Protein shakes from Sam's Club). I need to have 8 oz of 100% fruit juice for calories, and 48-64 oz of other liquids. I can have up to 2c broth, sf jello, sf Popsicles, and any other sf drink. I told my kids today (ages 7 & 9) that in a few weeks I will be going to the hospital so that the doctor can help me get healthy. They asked some good kid-friendly questions, so hopefully they will understand it good enough. I'm so ready! I'm excited to play with my kids, take them to amusement parks, water parks, and mostly to teach them a healthy lifestyle! Let's do this! ????

I can honestly say I'm not even a little bit scared about surgery. What terrifies me the most is I am self pay and my insurance doesn't cover a dime of it. If something goes wrong after the fact, or there is a problem of any kind, I am SCREWED. Insurance won't cover it! We are sacrificing a lot paying out of pocket. I would love to hear any stories from self payers. I just need a little confidence that everything will be fine!!!

Thank you all so much! I am moving forward with the sleeve. I would like to lose 130 lbs. I have PCOS and was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, with climbing blood pressure and cholesterol. I've done all of the pre-op requirements, the last being the EGD scope. They called me on Friday to let me know that everything was fine with that and I could call Monday to schedule a final appt with the surgeon, pre-op testing, and the surgery! This is really happening! I really do feel much better after reading your replies!

My success at 1 month

What an encouraging story! Congratulations! -
My name is Kerri and I'm a 37 year old wife and mother of 2. I've been battling PCOS since 1999, gaining weight, losing weight, gaining more...blah blah blah, you know the story! I've been on Metformin for more than 10 years, but my a1c keeps creeping up. Doctors have suggested that I look into bariatric surgery, so I went to two seminars. That was two years ago, when I found out that our insurance doesn't cover a dime of bariatric surgery, under any circumstance. In the meantime, I prayed that we could come up with the money. I have all of the support of my husband and family, but the funds just weren't there. To make a really long story short, I got some blood test results recently that gave me an official diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. I'm feeling pretty crappy with headaches and horrible, throbbing leg pain. I decided right then and there that I need to make this happen sooner rather than later. WE HAVE THE FUNDING FOR MY SURGERY! I'm currently scheduling my scope, then I will have a surgery date! I'm hoping for end of June. I am so excited to go on this journey with you all! Now I'm off to explore this fun site!
