Protein suggestions for the holidays
Iluvcarbs replied to Iluvcarbs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the great tip! That sounds great. :clap2: -
Hello. I was wondering if any of you might share some ideas for types of proteins to eat during the holiday. Our family is not much for turkey. We did chicken for Thanksgiving. Ham I haven't tried. Do any of you have any good recipes or ideas? I would even consider a good take out place that might be found nationwide. I am in Phoenix, AZ. Thanks.

LOL I love it. I am glad someone asked. -
I have had not problems with lettuce so far (knock on wood). I usually buy the salad mix, with the arugula, baby romanine, red lettuce. I don't get the iceberg. Not sure how that one would do with the band. I have heard that lettuce causes gas too. Never been a big fan of iceberg.

I dreamt I drank soda, totally fogetting I had my band in. I woke up in a panic thinking I had really done it, and damaged my band. I don't even like soda. :notagree

You are not rushing. You do it if you feel it's the right thing to do. I went to the seminar Sept 1st 2007 was approved and ready for surgery by Sept 28th. BCBS approved me in ONE DAY! It was destiny, everything was falling into place. Now don't get me wrong I did get some pre surgery jitters. I almost chickened out when they were wheeling me to the OR, but now I am glad I stuck through it. Good luck on your journey!

Bandsters who have taken a cruises, Please Reply
Iluvcarbs posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone. I was just banded Oct 23rd of this year. In a few months I am taking a cruise with my family. Cruises are soooo much about food. Can you guys share your experiences. Is there any foods that you found hard to digest? Any foods you found particularly pleasant and easier to digest? I am still learning my body, and what I can tolerate and can't. But to be honest, I am kind of stressing a little bit about what I will be able to have. Also did any of you feel the band caused you to have motion sickness on the cruise? I know this is a weird post, but any feedback is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!:help: -

I am 29. Physically the recovery was a little longer than I anticipated. I would say it wasn't until the second week that I felt better, but this is a very individual thing. I think what hurt me the most was my anxiety. I am a very anxious person, and I would freak out with any new sensation. Eventually you start to learn the different cues your body gives you. I am in therapy now and I think it is helping me tremendously. I also do a self-help program that has helped me tremendously. I think doctors do a good job of getting you ready for the physical changes, but not a lot of them are good at telling you what to expect mentally. Food was my comfort when I was happy, sad, you name it. The band makes you learn that food is no longer a comfort thing, it's a survival thing. And for me that was a rude awakening. Definitely be prepared physically and emotionally. To be 100% honest the first few weeks, I was like "What I have done!" But once I saw the weight loss, and I stopped letting my negative thoughts rule, and started being positive it helped me tremendously. Also one very important tip, they mention it on other posts is "head hunger". Know when your full, and know when you just want to keep eating because you "think" your hungry. That has helped me tremendously. So that has been my experience with the band. So far so good. I am down about 30lbs. in 6 weeks! Awesome! I hear your 30's are the best times of your life. I am starting to think they are right. :whoo:

Approved and nervous
Iluvcarbs replied to lillysmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my band a month abt a month ago. Oct 23rd. I almost backed out the week before. I had gone from Miss Gung Ho, ain't nothing gonna stop me, to I can't do this. Like someone said before what is the alternative? I had done WW, Nurtri-system (yuck!), Slimfast, Isagenix, etc. etc. I had tried everything. I felt like I was eating myself to death. I was on the way to diabetes, heart disease, and all the fun stuff that comes with being Morbidly obese. You have to look inside of you. If YOU feel this is what's right for you, then listen to your heart and do it. Sometimes it is hard to see the big picture. And the best advice I could give you (that I wish someone had given me) is to have realistic expectations. Expect to feel a little tired, expect to feel a little hungry, expect the weight loss to be slow. Just take it one day at a time. Slow and steady wins the race. Hang in there. :whoo: -
Hi Everyone, I had my surgery Oct 23rd. I am a month out today. My first fill is on Dec. 5th. But until them I was wondering, if any of your doctors let you know when you could start to put things on your scars to help them go away (or get lighter). Any feedback is appreciated.

Congrats. I can't wait to say "See ya Lane Bryant"!

9 pounds lost in total and gaining it back
Iluvcarbs replied to cQQlgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't get discouraged. At my support group there was a girl who had only lost 8lbs., and her surgery was in August. Then there was another lady who actually detailed her weight loss. It wasn't until her 3rd fill that she hit that "sweet spot" that gave her the perfect amount of restriction. After that she started to really see the weight come off. Are you exercising? I know there was another lady who was really discouraged too. She was exercising every day, and still was not seeing the weight loss on the scale, but her clothes were fitting better, and most importantly she felt better. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. I know we all want to see results. We paid alot of money, and we had surgery! We want results. But hang in there. Stay positive. -
I am not sure what my doc used. No staples, or anything that needed to be removed. My scars healed quite nicely. All the scabs have fallen off (sorry didn't mean to be gross). They are just pink now. So I am definitely ready to get these suckers to fade. You know what I forgot to mention that sucked, was the Heparin shots. I don't know if you guys had to do it, but that left me bruised. Not so much the ones I did at home, but the ones they did in the hospital overnight. I think the needle they used was too big. But I am happy those are starting to fade. Thanks for the feedback.

I was banded only a month ago, but before my band, I worked out so hard I almost wanted to puke. It might of just been too much on the intensity. You get in the zone, but sometimes it is a little much for our body. Walking, and bicycling are not as bad as running. I could walk for 1 hour at the gym before no problem. But put me on the stairmaster for 5 minutes, and I was gonna pass out. Def. ask your, doc. But it sounds like your workout might of been really intense.

Lap banders that take anti-anxiety/anti depressant meds
Iluvcarbs posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do any banders out there take anti-anxiety/ anti depressant meds? My Dr. just changed me to Cymbalta. Does anyone out there take the capsule whole? My pharamacist said to take it in applesauce. Any feed back is appreciated. :help: -
Lap banders that take anti-anxiety/anti depressant meds
Iluvcarbs replied to Iluvcarbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you guys for the reply. Now when you take capsules whole how far post op are you? -
Putty thank you soo much for posting this thread. I felt like an idiot for having second thoughts. Everyone kept saying how great it was and I was like "Why don't I feel that way?". I actually had to go back on my anti-anxiety meds, I got myself so wound up. As time goes on I feel better. It's just getting used to all these new sensations, and knowing that alot of the time "It's just gas!" I still am a little scared, but that is something I am dealing with with help. But it makes me feel good to know I am not alone.

help hiatal hernia
Iluvcarbs replied to Newbeginnings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor fixed my hernia when he put my band in. I don't know if it made recovery longer. I don't think it did though.
