Why to people get so angry about WLS?

That is SOOO TRUE! In fact in our culture many of them are actually admired! What is someone like Hugh Heffner if not a glutton for sex? Okay, perhaps the literal term would be sybarite--but sure seems like a gluttonous lifestyle to me. I am NOT saying it is WRONG. I'm just saying that excess in somethings is often ADMIRED and even envied in our society when it is applied to other areas. Something is wrong with that.

Do complications have anything to do with age?

    Love your quote Rene!

Just got back from Plastic Surgeon...

Yes, it's a lot of money--but I bet most of us have at least one time or another bought (financed) a new car. Basically, it's the price of a new Honda Civic (an accord would be more). What would you rather have--a new car or a new body? I'd happily step out of an 84 Oldsmobile if I could do it in a sexy body!! And as enjoyment goes, your bod is a much better investment! IMHO anyway.

    Tentative diagnosis

DITTO! Can't improve on what everyone else said, but let me add my concern and hugsy vibes.

Do complications have anything to do with age?

You would?? Well Ms Hep one, you'd be way off. I'd put her at at LEAST 50--because everyone knows a good woman just gets more beautiful and fun with AGE. Chriminey... you young 'uns don't know nuttin. :cake:

    My little complication

Wow Mary--that's a pretty horrible experience! I'm so sorry you went thru all that. It's surprising they had no idea there might be adhesions and that 5 hours of surgery could cause the kinds of problems you had... or did they? I'm so glad you're okay now. I bet with more WL and some physical therapy (you are getting some kind of thereapy, aren't you?) that you will recover and have energy like you haven't had in years! Surgery is hard on our bodies, but they do have an amazing ability to improve. Best, best, BEST OF LUCK and warm wishes to you!

I dare U 2 beat my NSV... I rode the bull!!!

Well Lisa, you certainly beat my "spin" picture. Ridin the bull is gonna be a hard one to top. I think you're inspiring me to get back into losing mode so I can come up with a photoable NSV to top that! YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHAW!

    Looking old after weight loss!

I've heard some pretty impressive things about "thermage"--where they radio-wave your face and the skin tightens up. Just do a google search on it. Looks promising and I will be checking into it more in the future.

    Free Exercise Music Cd

Hey all, I made some CDs from my exercise playlist (FAST music) and just mailed a couple out to Duckie & Anwyn. I've got 3 more CD envelopes here & would be happy to send a few more out to any of you who needs some inspirational MOVE music. NO CHARGE! Really, the cost to me is minimal. I'm just really loving putting together music to move to w/ my Itunes and would love to know if it works for other people. Also, always open to music suggestions. (By song, not just artist as Itune downloads are by the song.) First 3 that PM me w/ their addresses get a free CD! (But you have to let me know what you think of the selections and the order... I tend to tweak this list all the time after actually working out to it for awhile.)

    Free Exercise Music Cd

Okay, I just sent out some more CDs today. Anyone who has sent me their address before 1/19 should have gotten or will be getting a CD in the mail in the next few days. Enjoy! (Oh... and to those who have sent private thank you's, you are all very welcome. Hopefully your inspiration will inspire me also as I seem to be low these days.)

    Free Exercise Music Cd

Yep, it's me. I changed my screen name so I wouldn't be quite so exposed by google. Ever since that "privacy & google" post appeared I've been wanting to change to an alias, but never could change my user name before. But I had to use something somewhat recognizable since I didn't want you guys not to wonder what happened to me! (You WOULD wonder, right?)

    Free Exercise Music Cd

OMG--I am soooooo jealous!! I'd take sex over (or in addition to) a workout ANYday. Unfortunately it's not an option. (Okay, there's always DL's devices, but that's not really the same.) In fact, "Someday Sex" is all that GETS me to exercise most days!!

Help me pick a goal weight please???

Based on nothing more than an intuitive gut-reaction, I think you'd be so hot and feel so good we'd have to tie you to the floor at 175. 175 is just sounds like a good number for you to me.

I'm glad you guys like the CD, but still you haven't guessed which is DeLarla's song! So I bet that means no one has gotten that far. (whimps!) You can skip ahead you know.

    PEOPLE Magazine's Weight Loss Issue

I haven't read the People article (yet) but my first question would be how long have these weight-losers kept it off? This race to lose is all well and good--but worthless if you're back in the same place 3 months later. And we've all done that, right? Less calories will of course make you use lose weight, but the most successful losers are the ones who make working out part of their lifestyle--forever. And I'm talking REAL AEROBIC WORKOUTS here. Oprah is the best example and most closely mimics my own experience. In her "maintaining low" phases (& we all know she slips sometimes) her weekly workout consits of an HOUR of aerobics 6 DAYS A WEEK with 3 additional days of one-hour weight training. That is her MAINTENANCE schedule! And the year that I maintained at 155 that was almost exactly my schedule. (Alternating between 1,000-1,500 cals per day.) Losing for me is pretty much the same regemin but cals have to be between 800-1200. It is critical for me to have low days so I can let lose a LITTLE during social ativities. If I go over too much one day then I work out MORE the next. I hate exercising as much as the next person, but it's really the only way for me to lose and maintain a loss. I know there are a FEW (very few) people who have lost weight w/ the band w/o exercising (Muffinbirdie would be one) but they lose slowly and they are YOUNG. After 30 I just don't think you can lose in the real world w/o exercise. (And I'm not talking walking 3 days a week--that's a joke. Don't kid yourself about that being enough exercise for WL.) I'm sure my maintainence at 155 for a year (after going down from 312) was helped by the fact that I took up swing dancing, so I had a lot of aerobic exercise to burn off cals--and the motivation to fit into my dance skirts. When I had to stop for awhile because of foot surgery I put on 50 pounds in 4 months. I kept trying to get back into working out but couldn't stick to it and kept going up, up, up... I got the band at 238# because I just could not get control of myself. The biggest thing spending $10,000 on this band did was finally give me a kick in the MOTIVATONAL ASS, so to speak. We all know we can eat around restriction. WL with or without the band is an EFFING LOT OF HARD WORK. And no diet is going to get around that. Sorry to be so long. I'm just typing out what I've been saying to myself all morning and I'm kinda pissed off about it. At least I know that I'm not the only one here feeling what a bitch it is!!

    Free Exercise Music Cd

Da nada, J.S. Hey everyone I ran out of CD envelopes, so I'll send out CDs to the latest requesters when I get some more in in a few days. Don't think I've forgotten you.

    full body lift?

Maybe ya could just get them to put you into a coma for a week to recouperate. That would be cool, wouldn't it? I purposely had foot surgery 2 days after my eyelid surgery since I was already confined to bed and on painkillers. It worked out great.

    Free Exercise Music Cd

The whole thing is about 70 minutes. It's much more a running than walking playlist. If you like my taste I'll make you a copy of songs I use for walking--these I use for the elliptical. Start about the 8th song (no, that's not it either, but applicable) and you should get past yours. It is FAAAAST. I had to work myself up to being able to keep pace thruout.

    Free Exercise Music Cd

Um... should I put it in a bottle and throw it into the ocean for ya? Hey guys.... no more listening in the car!!! Too bad I couldn't program it to say "No, no, noooo.... gotta move your butt to listen" whenever someone sticks it in an auto CD player. In my experience--WHATEVER the music is I get sick of it. So I don't allow myself to listen to my exercise music unless I'm working out. It's funny because if I hear one of those songs in a different context I have a big urge to start jogging!

    DeLarla's Feeling Better Fun Thread

How about a solid 3" angled paintbrush wrapped in a latex glove? That's pretty good, uh? When I was interrupted while painting some slats I inverted the disposable glove I was wearing over the wet brush and stuck it in the fridge so it wouldn't dry out until I could get back to it. That's usually good for as much as overnight, but I must have forgotten about the brush because it's been in there awhile now. I keep meaning to take it out and see if I can clean it, but that would be waaaay too much work. So there it sits.

    Free Exercise Music Cd

'Course you do know you're supposed to WORKOUT to it, not just LISTEN! It's not a listening CD! Is that why I haven't heard much from you guys? You haven't heard the CD yet because you're NOT working out??? I wanna hear some WORKOUT STORIES!! Am I going to have to get Debby-do to come over to this thread and kick ass so I'm not the only LBTette with a sore one??

Has being overweight made you stronger?

Oh without a doubt being overweight has made me a BETTER person. It has always been said that my grandmother drowned the "ugly ones" because my family is full of beautiful women. Honestly, a couple of Beauty Queens, some professional models and dancers. And let me tell you, most of them are sooooo spoiled! I wouldn't want to say some of them are bitches--but believe me, in younger years it would apply. Although acceptable enough when I was at my low points, for the most part I was always "odd woman out" in that group. While they were talking about shoes and matching purses, I was over with my male cousins talking politics, philosophy--or computers. Yes, I've got a great smile, but it feels good to know I could still use my head to win at life even if all my teeth were knocked-out--thick or thin!
