    The new girl

Ladies! Despite being older than you (40), and a guy, everything else applies to me... I, too, was banded on March 27th. Things are going well! We should all watch each other's progress since it's as close to an "apples to apples" as we can find, at least as it pertains to timelines.

    I NEED a buddy!

You care. That's half the battle. You are human, and that's how the rest of it happened. I am newly banded, but I don't think that keeps me from understanding the feelings you have. It's human nature, and especially as a mother, it's your natural instinct to put 4 kids and a sick husband ahead of yourself. (I'm a guy, and say that in a complimentary way). Take some time for yourself, don't beat yourself up, and move forward. If you execute your current plan, even with some regressions, you will end up being better off a year from now than you would have been without action. Long story short... don't beat yourself up. You are a mother of 4, and a wife. If some grilled tilapia and steamed veggies at your boss' party are your greatest transgressions of the week, then you are ahead of 99% of the human population!

    gas, gas and mo GAS!

I forgot about the million dollars in the bank. Add that to my list!

    Severe Mood swings

LB, that could be a number of things, regardless of WLS. Talk to your GP about it and see if there is something hormonal that can be corrected. I went through a phase like that after my father died, and started taking something. Within a few weeks, things balanced back out.

    gas, gas and mo GAS!

My Doctor seems to have an entirely different post op plan than most. First week is Protein shakes and the such, but I can have two servings of soft food a day (half cup), after second day. In hindsight, it would not have been Beans on day 3 or 4! After a week, I move to the soft foods like flaky fish, mashed potatoes, etc. However, I called and since I am doing well with everything, they said I can start on soft foods a day early. I lived on Prilosec and GasX yesterday, but things are going well. I had egg drop soup today, which after a week of nothing but shakes can only be described as the following: A combination of sex, tropical beaches, seeing a lost loved one after a long absence, and possibly the meeting of Jesus Himself.

I feel like i'm lying to people!

I have told nobody, except my fiance', my mom, and one other close family member. I grew up playing sports, and still coach, and I know in the circles I run in, I would be considered "weak," or "undisciplined." I would argue that those are insidious judgments, as we all have our own stories to tell on how we got here. Mine happens to be from two bad sports injuries as an adult that made me quit going to the gym, while I kept eating as though I lived in the gym. Happened pretty fast, really. But, to the original poster's point- I feel like I am lying to an extent. Then again, if someone asks how I'm dropping the lbs, I will truthfully and confidently say something like, "Well, it was time for a change, so I made one... I am drinking less beer, eating better, and getting back into the gym." Done! No need to elaborate.

    gas, gas and mo GAS!

I am only 5 days out from surgery, and made a very minor cheat yesterday... I took some Chili and used the juices and some Beans, then mashed them up. I was trying to get some Fiber into me so I can finally use the bathroom. Well, rather than that, it's become incredible gas buildup. Butt flute is playing strong tunes, but I can't burp, which feels like what I need. So, I suppose this is all normal.

Thanks to everyone. I am on my fourth day and feel great, all things considered. I handle pain very well, so I have only taken the pain meds at night to help me sleep. I actually drove myself around some today. However, these shakes are killing me! I just had some of the Fluid (and a few smashed beans) from some chili, to hopefully get some extra Fiber, as well as let me remember what hot food (albeit liquid) feels like. My biggest challenge is hitting 1,000 calories a day, which I have not even come close. I may hit it today, but I think I'm aiming for closing to 800. Did anyone "cheat" on that first week? I can go to soft solids (flaky fish, mashed potatoes, etc) as of Wednesday. So, I'm not talking about a major cheat. I mean something like what I just described with the chili. I chewed it so much, it was essentially liquid when I swallowed. Still have not used the bathroom, so I'd like to force that issue a bit, as well. Lastly, they say guys lose weight faster, and I understand I can't (and should not) continue on this path, but I have lost 18 lbs since I started the liquid diet last week, before surgery. Thanks to everyone, and I'm curious to hear what anybody thinks of my "Chili relapse."

    I did it!

I go in tomorrow morning, so I will watch how you feel and see if I can get some hints! Congrats.

Hey, everyone. I'm Will. I've read some of your posts (as a lurker) but finally signed up. I go in tomorrow morning for the band, after careful consideration. I'm pretty excited about it and looking forward to moving through these first few weeks. I'm sure I will pick your brains more than once in the coming days/weeks/months.
