I am only 3 weeks post op so far so I havent transitioned to a regular diet yet, but my NUT did recommend cooking meats in a moist atmosphere such as a slow cooker or pressure cooker rather than an oven where the meats tend to dry out more. Good luck!

sorry, i just realized I read your post wrong. Your one month appt is this thursday...I would still call tomorrow and double check just in case! Hope you feel better!!

Vomiting blood is NEVER normal, as I'm sure you know. I know you mentioned that you went to the ED, but I would still call your surgeon's office asap to make them aware instead of waiting a month until your appt. I'm sure they would want to know this info and may possibly even want to see you sooner? Good luck!

I had my rny this past Tuesday 3/22 and on Friday when I started my Protein Shakes I noticed I starting having some increased saliva production in my mouth. I'm not throwing up, my pouch doesn't hurt, and I feel fine. All this saliva is just annoying! I read that it can be from eating too fast or too much. I'm not really taking in a lot now and I've been sipping 2 oz of shake over 20-30 mins. The saliva is a little better but definitely still there all day long. Any other advice anyone could give would be great! Thanks!!

My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet. That was plenty of time to get all my other requirements done--psych/medical clearance, etc. But it has actually been a 4 month process for me because of scheduling it around my job. My first consultation appt was 11/12/15 and now my surgery is this Tuesday 3/22/16. Has gone by fast tho!

My doctor requires me to do just 3 days on a clear liquid diet and then npo at midnight before surgery. Tomorrow is my last day of clears and Tuesday is my surgery. Hope it gets here quick because I'm so hungry!!!

My surgery is on 3/22. I'm taking 3 weeks off but that's because I'm a nurse and I work in a hospital so its a very active job. Hopefully 3 weeks will be enough?

Perhaps you can take more warm liquids because it helps relax and expand the esophagus. Cold things usually cause constriction so maybe the esophagus tightens up more making the cold liquids harder to go down?

I just started my clear liquid diet prep for my surgery on 3/22. I have noticed that in the past month or so my knees have really been bothering me more than normal. For anyone that has already gone through this, would you say that the surgery definitely helped your joint pain? And if so, how long did it take after surgery to start feeling the difference?? Thanks for the help!!

I'm 5'11" and I would also like to be around 170ish. I have a large frame so I think if I'm any less than that then I would look sickly

Also make sure you do not gain weight from the date of your first weigh in or insurance is likely to deny you. Good luck!!

I also have Aetna and my bmi is currently 41 as well. Insurance told me it would take 7-10 business days. And for me, it took to full 10 days to hear back that I was approved. My surgery is 3/22 :-)

Agreed. Every insurance is different. For mine, I had to be over 40 for the past 2 consecutive years. I also did nit have any comorbidities. The drs office did say that if I didn't have that, then they may require me to go and do a sleep study also to see if I had sleep apnea. And if I didn't, then there would have been a good chance it wouldn't have been approved

My starting bmi was around 42 when I first started this process in November. Basically per my insurance they wanted to see "a net loss" during my supervised diet. My NUT told me that could be any amount of weight, but my bmi still had to be above 40 at my final weigh in. Basically, I spent the last 3 months maintaining my weight for the most part but only losing about 5 pounds. My bmi is now 41 and I was approved for the surgery which I'm having 3/22. Hope this helps :-)

@@HappilyEverAfter44 I understand how you feel. I am also a nurse and I work in a hospital. I also told my boss that I was having surgery but not what it was for. I only told 2 people I work with that I trust that I am having it. I'm not looking forward to everyone else asking me about it either, even though I know eventually it will become obvious. I have decided that I think I'm just going to be honest if people ask me. I feel more comfortable doing that then skirting around the issue or coming up with another story. I work around a lot of women who gossip unfortunately. So either I'm sure they will be talking about me having the surgery or finding something else to talk about. :-/

When all my info was submitted, the insurance company say it would take 7-10 business days. My Dr's office said they would call me once they had the approval. on the 7th day I didn't hear anything so I called and it was still pending. On the 10th day I still didn't hear anything so I called again and it was approved. The office hadn't called me yet like they said, while I'm waiting over here anxious! Lol I'm sure they would have called eventually but I just couldn't wait anymore. So maybe you should try calling your insurance company. That way, at least you will know if they have made a decision or not!

Constipation Question?

I feel your pain! I have had this exact same issue for the past 4 days and it has been killing me. So so painful!! I tried stool softeners and they didnt work for me. My doc told me to take metamucil 2x a day until the symptoms resolved and then once a day after that. Also, getting in all of your Water and walking every day helps keep things moving. I finally went this morning and it was better, but still painful from all the irritation that the previous 3 days caused. If you really cant go, magnesium citrate works really well also, but make sure you stay close to a bathroom after you take it!!!
