I am 51...had my surgery in July and as of today I am 40 pounds gone (as of surgery date)...and 64 pounds total. This is ABSOLUTELY the best thing I have done for me!! I am gaining more and more self esteem every day and am grateful for it all! To those of you out there just starting out or are in post op - STICK with it. It DOES get better!

Congratulations!!! Feels GREAT doesn't it? Keep up the good work!

Thanks Texaslady52.... I'm gonna check that out!! -
Question...... How long did it take for insurance to approve gastric bypass? They sent in my "request" TWO weeks ago and still nothing! At first the nurse told me one to two weeks, now that the two weeks are up she said it can take up to a month! I am so confused and getting depressed - I have done EVERYTHING all tests and requirements asked for. I really want to get things moving.

Soreness at incision spots?
Dawnakers replied to Donald Garvey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 5 weeks out tomorrow and I still have soreness in the largest incision. My belly is actually puckered in where the sewed up my insides to the muscle wall. I wonder if it will ever feel better! :-( -
OUCH..... sorry about the stones. I've heard they are worse than labor! Here's to a speedy recovery!!

New and looking for advice Bypass vs Sleeve
Dawnakers replied to Butterflymomof2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had RNY July 21st. I chose it after going to the seminar and hearing what the doctor said. I had GERD terribly and the sleeve would make it worse. Also I agree with the above, dumping, etc ... the Bypass would keep me more on track. Research EVERYTHING you can on both...and GOOD LUCK! -
when do you start losing weight
Dawnakers replied to MaureenS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find the more protein I get in the better. My surgery was 7/21 and so far I am down (from surgery) 18 lbs. I try not to weigh myself everyday - I try once a week. It's hard but I hate it when I am a slave to the scale. Everyone is different, we didn't put the weight on overnight...it will take time to come off. Be patient, keep up on your protein and exercise and STAY STRONG...YOU CAN DO THIS!! -
Thanks Melissa.....It's nice to know I'm not alone.

I too have the same feeling Sabrina. I always second guess myself after I eat something. Did I eat too much? Am I stretching my pouch? Am I full? I NEVER eat the entire egg, piece of fish, piece of chicken, etc. I have decided not to weigh myself everyday, as well. I have become a slave to the scale. I would weigh myself every morning and if it didn't move I would be miserable ALL day. I have decided once a week is good. I just can't put myself thru the torture :-/ Keep up the good work!!

Surgery July 21. 16 lbs down from surgery and 40 lbs down over all. Feeling FANTASTIC ....EXCEPT.... for the pain I have from the largest incision site. The pain is not constant but every now and then. It feels like it is ripping open from the inside. I usually walk around with my hand holding that particular incision area. Is ANYONE else out there experiencing anything similar?

* wks after and wearing any bra still hurts
Dawnakers replied to takenote61's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have pain when wearing a bra. I can tolerate it for maybe an hour then I want to yank it off. I am 3 weeks out and hoping that soon it will be better. I have to go to work next week!!! Ugh... -
I have poached it and seared it. I have also had a scallop....omg I have missed this :-D

I had mine on the 21st as well, Melissa Cotton. I am eating soft foods. Cottage cheese, eggs, fish, plain yogurt. Small amounts, but I am eating!

I have a bad pain in one the biggest incision sites. It feels like it is literally being pulled from the inside. Whenever I get up or stand up it pulls from deep inside causing crazy pain. I have to put pressure on the actual site to get around.

HELP!!!! I am having a problem, 2 and 1/2 weeks out (7/21) and I have developed an incredible itchy, bumpy rash all over my belly and it is spreading to my back. I wake myself up at night with the itching/scratching. I have bought some allergy cream but it isn't helping. I don't want to go back to the doctor because I don't want to be put on steroids. Is anybody else experiencing anything similar?

Since my FIRST official weigh in, I was 305 lbs. Day of surgery I was 281 lbs. (Coming home three days later I was 296). Today - two weeks after surgery, I am 271. It is coming off, slowly.... but the fact is.....it is coming OFF!!! KUDOS to ALL OF US!!!!

Tomorrow is the big day!
Dawnakers replied to Auntie rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all.. Six days out and I am feeling pretty good (minus the nagging headache due to sleep apnea and not wearing my c PAP). Surgery was uneventful...my first night in the hospital I had a bit of remorse but got over it soon. I have been running an on again off again low grade fever. My doc says it's normal and to call if it gets to 101. (Not on any antibiotics). I woke this morning feeling really good and I think I did too much and wore myself out. So now I am back, resting. I find I get tired easily and nap quite a bit. The 5 holes on my belly look gnarly but I think are starting to heal as they are beginning to itch. Only one site actually hurts. I find every day I feel better and better. My advice - Follow your doctor's to a T, and SIP SIP SIP.... that has been hard, but I have PLENTY of varieties of sf liquids and Jello on hand. Oh and TRY and get in all of your Protein. I find it is almost impossible to do this - and am constantly sipping on this as well. BEST of luck to all who are going thru this.... it is a long road but one I am grateful to be on... -
Oh damn Stacyann..... I am praying for you. I couldn't imagine having this AND an infection (never mind BOTH infections). Stay strong.....this is temporary and will pass. Take care of yourself.

Hi all.... My surgery was Monday...I am on my 5th day out. Surgery went well. The first night was rough, I cried and had a moment of remorse. Everyday has gotten a little better than the day before. I CONSTANTLY am sipping something, Water, tea, broth, sf Powerade and am trying like hell to drink my Protein shakes. I was only able to get down 30 grams of protein yesterday. I ate 1/2 of a small Jello. I am taking my Vitamins and supplements. It is all very daunting but it is the only thing I am focused on. The last two days I have been running a LOW grade fever. 99.2 - 99.9, the doctor said if it gets to 101.3 then I have to be seen. Woke this morning to no fever ...YAY! The gas pain has been bearable. I have moments where it settles in the middle of my back and doesn't move - NOT a good feeling. I am burping (a good thing) and passing gas (another good thing). I had a partial BM (sorry if TMI -but it is par for the course), when having a BM you do not want to push. I am definitely going on a stool softener today. My incision sites are beginning to itch...good sign that they are healing. Second day home I showered.....oooh the best thing ever. My only gripe and something everyone must be made aware of...my doctor did not discharge me from the hospital until 7pm! I was then given my prescriptions. This was unacceptable! I live 45 minutes from the hospital my pharmacy would have been closed and I would have had to spend my first night home without pain meds. So my mother and I scrambled to find a pharmacy on my way home from the hospital. I wasn't happy. Please ask for your RX's prior to being released and have them home waiting for you. All in all so far it has been pretty good. A LOT of rest with intervals of walking. It is a slow process right now, but one I am NOT regretting. I am looking forward to my future and a lot less of me! Good luck to all ...and remember SIP, SIP, SIP your liquids!
