Thanks for the reply. I have been waiting and getting conflicting wait times. It's so frustrating. -
How much time off work-office/desk job
Dawnakers replied to jodie1961's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am planning on taking 1 week off. I hope that is enough... -
I too have a hiatal hernia. I was unaware that I had one until after the upper GI. My doctor said he would fix it during my surgery.

First Pre-Op appointment -Sleep Study
Dawnakers replied to Nicole Lynn Martin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning. I just came home from my SECOND sleep study. The first found that I had "mild" sleep apnea. So the doctor requested I go in for a titration study. From what I am told they measure the amount of oxygen I need while I sleep. It is exactly the same as the sleep study - all bells, whistles and wires along with a mask! AWFULLY difficult to sleep but absolutely no pain involved. (The first sleep study I apparently slept 352 minutes and stopped breathing 56 times, although not for long.) I think at this point they set me up with the equipment at home and I have to be on it two weeks prior to having surgery. I have done EVERYTHING else... and am to ready to get this done. Again there is nothing to worry about...it's just another day on our journey. Best of luck. -

Anyone from Connecticut?
Dawnakers replied to Katenct's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Kate. I am from CT... Northwest hills. I have not had my surgery yet but have gone through the seminar AS WELL AS (get ready) --- blood work, cat scan, heart doctor (for an Echocardiogram as well as a follow up visit), pulmonary doctor (and follow up - I have asthma), psychiatric evaluation, sleep study, upper GI, colonoscopy AND finally nutritionist. My insurance requires 6 visits (months) and I am on my 3rd. So I am hopefully looking at June or July for the surgery. I had my seminar in January (then I had to meet with the coordinator as well as my surgeon). I found that getting everything (all of the procedures) over and done with is easier (for me anyway). Now all I have to do is concentrate on my nutrition visits. Don't freak out over the psych evaluation...(I see a lot of people on here do). The psychiatrist is wanting to confirm that you know what you are getting into, they will confirm you have support (family/friends) and will just ask you a LOT of questions. None of which is uncomfortable. The upper GI and colonoscopy were absolutely nothing to worry about either. I don't know if you will need the colonoscopy - my surgeon recommended it because I am 51(damn him:). But you will have the upper GI...again you are out when they do this. So it is pretty much hurry up and wait. I am anxious and excited to get this done...but I do realize this (my weight) was not put on in 6 months so .... I take this time to research....research.......research!!! I have also taken this time to try new Protein rich recipes as well as shakes, etc. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask on here ...everyone is extremely kind and very supportive. Best of luck to you (us) on our new journey. I am sure we will "talk" on here further. Dawn -

TWO more days for you! How exciting. -
That's excellent that you would do that for her (and yourself). She is lucky to have such support! My daughter and I are going through this together so I understand the need for support. I will definitely try the Bipro, thanks for the tip. Good luck to you and your sister.

Kespy74 If you don't mind me asking..... how much have you lost. I know it hasn't even been a month but I am curious. How are you feeling? Best of luck to you! -
51 and waiting for surgery date. Need to get this done.....want to start living not just exist.

Agree with above. The psych eval was nothing to worry about. Just a series of predetermined questions wanting to confirm you know what you are getting into and are prepared, as well your support system and goals. There ARE a lot of them but seriously nothing to worry about.

Pre-op appointments..
Dawnakers replied to hmjdreamingbig's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my experience the psychiatrist just wanted to make sure I was ready/prepared for the surgery. She asked me a series of questions (my history, family, eating habits, social life, asked me to describe exactly which surgery I was having done and explain the procedure, as well as what my expectations were and goals). The questions were already predetermined and she would enter my response into the computer. Absolutely NOTHING to worry about. They just want to make sure you know what you are getting in to.
