Maintenance is not what I expected.
Basketball Mom replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for that post USGAnn2014!! Great information and also some of the same things I've heard and currently experiencing. I reached goal 10 mo post op (March 2015) and then lost another 7 since then even though I was supposed to be in maintenance mode. Mentally, I do not think I can be in the maintenance mode. Like others, I've been in the weight loss mode for 20 years and I just don't know any other way to live. I miss my scale rewards, I miss the comments people would make during my weight loss, but both are gone and I haven't figured out a way to live without them. I still get on that darn scale about every other day despite knowing I shouldn't. I still drink a shake every morning and eat like I did during the weight loss phase. I can hold more food though so my turkey burgers and chicken breast portions have just increased. My trainer has me doing less cardio and more weight training to reduce my fat percentage. Its working, but slowly. She is attempting to help me change my goals to body fat percentage instead of BMI and scale rewards, but I'm just not quite there yet. Little by little I'm learning to live the "skinny person's" life but its harder than I thought!! I'm happy being thin, don't get me wrong, I just didn't expect the mental part to be so hard! And why is it that there are days I look in the mirror and think, ick...there is still fat person looking back at me???!!!! Not something I expected. Maybe some day I will learn to live/accept I'm on maintenance. I am so afraid to gain it back that I'm just not there yet. Congrats to everyone at goal or close to it! -

Please recommend an unflavored protein powder
Basketball Mom replied to Superfluous's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes, unjury is the one I would recommend as well. I've tried others and Unjury just mixes better. I put it in my Greek yogurt every day!! -
Cleaning out my closet
Basketball Mom replied to tfarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, let it all go!! It felt so good to clean out my closet. I've been doing it a little at a time. Every time I go down a size the bigger size is purged!! It feels good, I actually like to look at myself in the mirror and like the way my clothes fit. There is NO going back for me. Skinny is SO much better. I'm not hanging on to any piece of clothing that is too big. I have pictures to remind me of where I was and that is enough for me. You will feel so much better. We have an awesome tool for the rest of our lives!! Use it and enjoy it:) Congrats to you all!!! -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
Basketball Mom replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey fellow May sleevers! Its been a very long time since I've posted anything but just wanted to see if anyone else at 7 months out are considered malnutritioned. At my 6 month check up everything was fine accept my malnutrition number was at a 15 and normal is 16 - ? I can't recall the range right now and what the test was called, but I'm barely under it, and my B1 is low. I'm supposed to be rechecked in 2 more weeks so working on getting those numbers up. Anyone else having any issues? I'm only 8 pounds from goal. I'm pretty happy where I'm at and I'm sure it will take months to get this last 8 off, but hell, haven't been this close to goal weight in over 15 years so no complaints from me:) Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your new figure:) May this New Year be the best year ever!! -

Where are all my May Sleevers?
Basketball Mom replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 5/13/14 - 11 weeks ago - and down 35 lbs as of today. Its coming off slower than most people, but I did start out with a BMI of 36, so I was told I would lose slower and thats OK. Eating out sucks because I can still only eat about 4 oz of food and most of that is Protein so I don't get all my fruits and veggies in every day because of it and I still have a very hard time eating 1200 calories a day which I'll be discussing at my dr's appointment in 2 weeks. Still struggle with getting 64 oz of Water in every day because i get full so quickly...sipping is not doing it for me...still not able to get all that water in. Regardless, I'm still losing and any loss is a good loss. Glad to hear you all are doing well!! Even at 35 lbs I'm still only down from an 18 to a 16, can't figure that one out, but hey, its still smaller than I was:) Keep in touch everyone!! -
Anyone start with a 35 BMI?
Basketball Mom replied to JenSul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I'd say I am in the "slow" loss group as well, but thats OK:) My BMI was a little over 36 when I started. Surgery was 5/13/14 (11 weeks) and as of today my loss is at 35 lbs. It is hard to read the posts that had surgery around the same time and they've lost 50+ pounds at this stage, but I can only be thankful that I didn't have to start with a BMI over 40 and in my opinion it is safer to lose at a slower pace anyway. As long as the scale is going down, we are ALL losers!! Keep up all your hard work and it will happen!! -
Any May 2014 sleevers?
Basketball Mom replied to Nessa39's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wondered if I tried it too quickly. I am getting frustrated because I've only lost 7 pounds in the last 40 days...makes no sense other than I don't eat enough. Thanks for the post! I'll hold off on trying lettuce for another month or two!! -
Any May 2014 sleevers?
Basketball Mom replied to Nessa39's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Fellow May Sleevers! I was sleeved on May 13th and experiencing my 2nd stall. What I was wondering is if any of you are having trouble eating lettuce. I tried to eat a salad last night for the first time and oh did it make me nauseated. Did I try lettuce too soon? -

5 week early stall BROKEN :)
Basketball Mom replied to squeaker31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my first stall. Surgery was 3 weeks, 2 days ago and I haven't lost anything in 8 days. Not that its a huge/long stall, but I'm so early in my weight loss I was shocked I'm already stalled. What broke your stalls? -
I'm so glad to hear that everyone did so well. I have my EGD next Thursday the 24th and the gal making the appointment for me guaranteed me that I would not remember a thing. After reading your success stories here, I'm not worried a bit. Thank you!!!

Surgery in 3 hours!
Basketball Mom replied to Ready2tryagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing! -
Sorry for my late response. I'm waiting now for my EGD appointment to be set and sometime today I'm supposed to get all the pre-surgery requriements emailed to me, but I do know there is a 2 week diet I have to to on which I'm told is basically a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Not sure yet if I can have any fruit or veggies throughtout the day yet, but I will let you know! Did you get your info yet? For me, May 13th can't get here soon enough. I'm so ready!!!! I'm May 13th too! I've already had my upper gi. All I have left is my pre-op appt. and meet with my surgeon again, and then my nurse-teach class. Do you have to do a 2 week pre op diet?
