female only Hysterectomy & Sleeve at the same time Questions
MommyMeghan posted a topic in The Gals' Room
Hi All, I'm in the process of being scheduled for my sleeve and they are going to do a hysterectomy at the same time. I have been have random episodes of uncontrolled bleeding, the last one lasted 35 days. They couldn't figure out why it started and they played hell getting it to stop. My surgeon agreed to do both at the same time since it was a bleeding issue. I'm curious if anyone else has done this and what the recovery was like? How long were you out of work? Any advice to offer? Thanks in advance for your time -
I'm going to preface this with, I know I need to accept responsibility and pull myself back up on the horse. So I'm having some trouble doing that. I had my sleeve in July 2014 and at the time of the surgery they also did a partial hysterectomy. Recovery went well and my weight loss was on track to hit goal. I didn't lose as fast as I would have liked but it was steady for the most part. I got down to 150 pounds and plateaued bad. I'm so disappointed in myself for never officially hitting goal. In addition, I was still having issues with the remaining lady parts and ended up having to have the hysterectomy finished. They did my last surgery in May of 2016 and this last year has been a constant struggle. Being thrown into surgical menopause has completely SUCKED. I'm on HRT but they've had to play with it trying to get the balance right. The worst part is I'm up to 167lbs and I need to stop gaining! The doctor says I'm doing fine and not to stress, "women gain weight with menopause" etc but F that nonsense! I've worked really hard to get the weight off. I can't have it coming back on at 39 years old. I'll be right back at square one. So now that my rant is over, and I acknowledging I need to do something to hit the reset button, I'm looking for suggestions on getting back on the wagon. Has anyone out there struggled with this type of thing? What worked for you?

Multiple Hernia's - Anyone had this happen?
MommyMeghan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all. I'm a year and a half post op from Gastic Sleeve and up till December everything was going great. Not going to bore you with the crazy details but come to find out my Hiatal Hernia has reoccurred (didn't know that could happen) and I also have either a Femoral or Inguinal Hernia as well. They aren't sure which kind. My question for you all is, has anyone else had issues with Hernia's and do they have to be repaired? Will it get worse if I don't get it fixed? Anything you can share would be helpful. I've got an appointment with my surgeon on the 21st and my mind is racing. Thank you! -

MEGA Stall - Need some tips to break it
MommyMeghan posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi All, I'm officially a year out now and it's the hardest I've ever worked for anything in my life! I'm stuck now for the last month at the same weight and can't seem to break it. I'm still journaling all my food and I'm working out 5-6 days a week for an hour to hour & half each time. I'm getting the extra protein to cover the workout and even though I do occasionally have something that is not 100% good, I never go over 1000 calories a day. I alternate my workouts to include strength training too. Am I not eating enough? I know I'm building muscle but I really want to get the scale to move! I'm so close to goal! ARGH!!!! Have any of you had anything work for jump starting your body? HELP!! -
I didn't start a steady exercise regime till about 4 months after. I would walk but no actual deliberate exercise. I started going to the gym 4 months post op twice a week 30 minutes and now I'm 1 year out and I go to the gym 5 days a week for at least an hour.

Today is the one year anniversary. Exactly this time last year I was getting stuck with IV's and ready to have major surgery, to hit the reset button on my body and my life. One year later I can honestly say I have never felt better, ever. I can move. I can breath, I can exercise, I can enjoy life. I am so grateful. Some people who know me say I look like a completely different person. I feel like a whole new person. I'm really happy. Just wanted to share with all of you. Have a fantastic day!

My 1 year mark! YEAH!
MommyMeghan replied to MommyMeghan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've lost 85lbs from my highest weight but it's been slow going. I lose some then plateau, lose a little more and so on. I like to focus on things beyond the weight, it helps with frustration. I am for the first time in my adult life wearing a size 8! I climbed a mountain! I lived through several highly intense exercise classes! Those are all wow achievement moments for me so when the scale stalls out, I remember them. I get to live the way I always wanted. It's a blessing -

I can't believe he said that!

Even doctors can be morons, don't let it get to you. He clearly needs to do some more research. -
Bathing Suits Post WLS - I know "first world problems"
MommyMeghan posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok folks, who has been able to find a decent bathing suit that you can feel comfortable in? Apparently losing 80+ pounds has not made this process easier, much to my dismay. Has anyone been shopping and found a store that has a decent selection? HELP! -

Thanks! I will check that out. I am a little frustrated but I know I just need to be patient. :-) -
Almost cried at my doctors office
MommyMeghan replied to agalindo17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh in the nude at home and scales are calibrated differently so you will see a difference at the Dr's office. Try not to stress yourself too much. Stress is bad for weight loss. -
STUCK! Super Stall! Really getting annoying
MommyMeghan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok folks I will preface this with saying that I am doing extremely well and I should not be stressing about this. I know that, and I keep telling myself that and I keep doing it anyway. I'm almost a year out. My sleeve was July 23rd, 2014. I'm down 82lbs and am wearing clothes that are less than half the size I was before. I'm feeling great physically, working out 4 times or more a week. Everything is really really good. So why am I so annoyed that I've been stuck at the same weight for a month? I'm sure I'm losing inches, the way my clothes fit is showing that, but that scale will not budge and it is pissing me off. Am I not eating enough for the amount of exercise? Am I not getting enough Protein? I know my carbs are low, I track everything on MyFitnessPal and I always stay well under the allowable carbs and sugar grams. Do I need to eat more? That just sounds absurd! OK so anyone who has been stuck this close to goal....please point me in the right direction. What can I do to get that scale moving again? -
Apparently I'm uncomfortable with attention
MommyMeghan replied to Idonerds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have noticed that the weight loss has triggered a lot of attention. I take it as a compliment and assert my married mother of three status. No harm in a little attention. -
Gastric sleeve Dumping
MommyMeghan replied to sarahbeth3569's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could have been the eggs. I haven't been able to tolerate eggs since my sleeve. I used to love them. Have tried several times since surgery and get sick every time. I'm 8 months out now and still can't do eggs. -
POST OP DRAIN
MommyMeghan replied to heartonmysleeve82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hospital for 4 days, had a more complex surgery including total hysterectomy with my sleeve. Trust me I wanted that thing out before I left but surgeon said no. He said he leaves it in that long because it can provide early marker for bleeds if there is a problem. I had no problems with infection but it was terribly uncomfortable. -
POST OP DRAIN
MommyMeghan replied to heartonmysleeve82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes they do. Mine was in for almost two weeks. They removed it at my first post op appointment. For me it was the worst part but survivable. -
Anybody succeed with NO vitamin supplements?
MommyMeghan replied to Elizabeth21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest you try to find ones you can tolerate. I can only do gummy or chewable so I double up on those as they are not as good as the bariatric ones. If you are not getting good nutrients you run the risk of other problems like bone loss, hair loss etc. -
If you're failing I'm missing something. Your body is going to need to adjust. If they want you to count, use MyFitnessPal. It might not be the calories but the ratio of protein to carbs. Make sure you're getting your protein in. I think you're doing great. Don't lose heart. You can do this

Disappointed in myself
MommyMeghan replied to Brandalyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're averaging 4lbs a week which is double the norm for nonsurgical weight loss. I'd say you're doing good. If you're having other health issues don't be so hard on yourself. 9 weeks isn't that long. Be patient & allow yourself time to heal. Are you doing any exercises? Once the doctor clears you for that, you'll see more progress. Chin up! It's a journey, not a race -
Why am I freezing?
MommyMeghan replied to Marielbx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All The Time! I'm always cold. I will take it though over being an elephant. :-) -
You might be eating too fast and swallowing little bits of air. Slow down a bit, don't rush and see if that helps

OK folks, I was sleeved 7/23/14 and I've hit a major stall. I was going along slow but steady but now I've been stuck at the same spot for almost a month! I'm down 66lbs and I know that's great but I just can't figure out how to get the scale moving again. I'm working out 4-5 days a week, getting my protein. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks all!
