  1. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good food scale to help with weighing & measuring my portions. Do any of you use one or can recommend a good one? Thanks

    Food scales

    Awesome! Thank you all :-)
  3. It happens to everyone and I do mean everyone. We just did a traumatic thing to our bodies and that's about the time the body says WHOA hold on here. Don't be discouraged. Stay on task and this too shall pass :-)

    Big legs

Oh Yes! That's a goal for me too. Even though they make extended calf now, I want to wear the regular ones :-)
  5. I keep having to remind myself that I'm not going to magically wake up in the morning and be skinny. My sleeve was done 7/23, I'm 9 weeks out and I've lost a total of 42lbs but only 27 since surgery day. I'm not complaining, this is a reality check for everyone like me who is feeling like it should be faster. I'm averaging 3lbs a week which is fabulous. I'm feeling better, the doctors are pleased. The Dr has said that most of his patients that start out where I was, go slowly. I'm really happy but.... I'm suffering from a case of a rotten Mother In Law. This is a woman who has never approved of me or anything I do, I've never been thin so of course I have that against me, I can't work hard enough, I can't please this woman to save my life. She calls every day. EVERY DAY. She asks questions like "How's your diet going? Are you still losing?" and when I tell her happily about my progress, she responds as if she's disappointed. She knows I had surgery, I didn't hide it from anyone. I told her I can't eat bread, Pasta, rice (my surgeons rules) and she balks. Then when we are at her house she consistently offers me things like bagels and pancakes. She's not stupid, she has a Master's Degree. She's just evil. Anyway, everytime I think I'm not doing well, I realize it's her in my head and I remind myself that I'm doing great and what she thinks does not matter. If you have a little person in your head that's keeping you down, don't fall for their tricks. Keep your head up, you can do this. And so can I
  6. Thank you all for your responses It absolutely helps to have your support. I do my best to avoid answering the phone. I have 3 children, her only 3 grandchildren, so I can't just not answer but I will have my oldest (9yrs old) answer and talk to her. Sometimes I get away with not even having to say hello. As much as my rant was to vent about her it was also a pep talk both to myself and anyone else that has someone like this in their lives. As mush as she drives me crazy and for numerous reasons I can't just write her off completely, I AM in charge of my own happiness. Everytime she gets in my head, I just think something positve, an achievement I've made, goal I've reached without her supoport and I feel better. This is a journey that I am on but I'm doing this not just for myself but also for my kids and my husband. And it's because I love my husband that I won't allow his mother to drive a wedge between us. He knows how crazy she is. He avoids talking to her too hahahaha. I believe all of us here, on this forum and going through WLS, are brave beyond words. We are strong and able. We are a message to everyone that we have the ability to change our future.
  7. I'm 5'2" and I my ultimate would be a size 8. I've never in my adult life made it to a single digit size so to get there would be a dream come true!

    Onederland!

Congratulations! I know that was something that was so important to me and it feels so good! So excited for you!
  9. Ok folks, I am doing a survey. I'm 7 weeks out from my sleeve and there have been some small family affairs but nothing major. My husband and I are going to a wedding tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. How do you guys handle major functions where eating and drinking are expected? (BTW - the folks at this wedding don't know I've had any kind of surgery so there's likely to be questions if I'm just sitting there sipping Water and barely eating.) As a side note, I'm praying there is something some what healthy to eat as well. just sayin

    Holiday gatherings.

I'm almost 8 weeks out and I feel like I'm getting into a groove with my eating schedule. I just went to my first major function (a wedding) over the weekend and I was nervous. They had waiters passing stuff on trays for the cocktail hour and I was being offered food left and right. If it was something I could have, I had it but just a little. No one seemed to notice if I took anything or not. The dinner was a buffet and thank goodness they had all kinds of things that are allowed including salmon. Again, no one seemed to notice how little I took or if they did, they didn't say anything. This was a good prep for me getting ready for Holiday Gatherings. My suggestion would be don't stress about it now. See where you are when the time comes and don't be afraid to bring your own stuff with you. You always have the option to prepare something that's within your food allowances at that time. I'm sure most people won't even notice.
  11. Thanks everyone! The posts were all helpful. In the end I was nervous for no reason They had great choices there for me (even though I did bring something stashed in my purse just in case) and no one seemed to notice how little I ate. If they did, they kept it to themselves.

Struggling going back to work today.

Oh wow! They are a crew. My mom always said "God don't like ugly" and they fit that bill. You just stay strong and remain pleasant & watch them all go crazy trying to get under your skin. I believe in Karma & they will get theirs
  13. I am so close , I can taste it. I was sleeved on July 23rd. Weight loss has been a little slower for me but my Dr says that patients that start out where I did usually go slower & not hot get discouraged. I've been trying on old clothes and have been so excited to see what fits and what's agree too big! My husband and I are going to a wedding in a couple weeks and I can't wait. So glad keeping Ll those dresses I was hoping to fit in again paid off. Just thought I'd share a happy post

    Too few calories?

I wonder sometimes if that's why my weight is coming off so slow. I'm averaging 550 a day. I'm 7 weeks out. Maybe I should try adding a snack into my day? I try to stick to 3 meals and 1 snack a day.

Struggling going back to work today.

I'm so sorry for your situation. Where I live, the state requires employers to provide disability coverage after 7 days. I had my sleeve July 23rd and just returned to work this past Monday. I also had a hiatal hernia repair and hysterectomy at the same time so granted it was a lot but I was so thankful for those 6 weeks. My advice to everyone would be not to rush back to the rat race. As for this miserable person you are stuck with, she must be horribly unhappy in her own life to treat others so awful. Take comfort in knowing that you are a strong person and you can get through these times with your head high. The other end of that is this. If the job is not worth the stress, start looking for a new one. I will tell you that my job is very stressful and just the schedule is making my nutritional needs difficult. I took the time while I was out to really think on what I want from my life, both personal and professional, and I'm not going to allow anything to stand in the way of my happiness. So while I'm back here out of necessity, I'm working on improving my situation. I would suggest you do the same. You have the ability to take control of your life and build it. Don't be afraid to take those steps. I wish you all the best!
  16. Hi out there! I'm about 6 weeks out from having my sleeve surgery and I'm having trouble getting in the required fluid amount. I am trying but can't seem to balance that with the protein. I am getting about 50 grams of protein a day which the DR said is really good and to keep trying. I'm wondering a couple of things. A.) Is there a calorie count I should be going by? I average about 600 calories a day. B.) Do protein shakes count as a meal or snack or what? C.) I've been losing slowly which my Dr said is normal. He said that people who start out where I did tend to lose a little slower but I'm wondering if not getting enough fluid can slow down your weight loss? D.) I'm open to any advice, suggestions etc on how to balance the protein and fluids. Thank you!

    So close to ONEDERLAND!

I did It!! I did it!! I'm in Onederland!!! Every day is a happier day
  18. MommyMeghan

    Can someone tell me how?

Super easy, You input what you are eating & it helps to track calories, protein, sugar etc. You can also track your exercise and weight loss. There are a lot of preprogrammed foods in there as well.
  19. I waited about a week and was still the same as surgery day. Still full of fluid. I'm about 6 weeks out now and have lost 22 pounds since surgery day. Give yourself some time before jumping on the scale

    Going back to work

Hey, I had my surgery July 23rd and I'm not back to work till Sept 8th, for a couple reasons. I also had a hysterectomy at the same time as my sleeve and also had a large Hiatal hernia repair. Second is while I work in an office, it's a high stress, fast paced environment and frankly, I don't need that while I'm trying to recover from this. I understand about pay, a lot of what I make is commission but I tried to plan ahead so it wouldn't be too bad. Remember to take the time you need because hurting yourself is only going to take you out longer

    Albany, New York....?

I am, just got home a little while ago. Dr. T was very pleased with how well I did with so much surgery all at once. I'm happy to be home in my element. And so happy it's done. I know I have a long recovery ahead but it's all worth it.

    Albany, New York....?

Hey folks, had my sleeve, hiatal hernia & hysterectomy on Wednesday. I'm still in St Peter's but things are coming along & the doc says I'm doing great. Even with the pain, I'm so glad I did it. Possibly going home tomorrow, every day is a new opportunity to be better. :-)

    Albany, New York....?

Hey friends! Does anyone know how long jello will keep in the fridge? My surgery is Wednesday so I wanted to make it ahead of time but want to be sure it will keep.

    BCBS insurance question

The best way to know for sure is to call the 800 number and speak to the pre-cert/coverage department. They can also send you a PDF of your Full Plan Document. That usually spells out the requirements piece by piece.
  25. MommyMeghan

    Wow! I can't believe it!

Congratulations to you! My surgery is scheduled for the 23rd (next week). I'm so nervous but I'm so excited to have those moments. One of my mini goals is to be able to wear the dresss I wore to my rehearsal dinner for my wedding. It's been ten years and I loved that dress. Yes I've kept it all this time in hopes I could get it on. I can't wait to wear it again. Serioulsy, I'm so happy for you!
