bosslady99751, well, the way I look at it is that if I DON'T have the surgery, I will for sure die younger than I want to, while if I DO have the surgery, yeah, there's a small chance of death or complications, but then I (hopefully) get to live till I'm 100!

Jess Pearl, here was my list of pre-op appointment questions: Do you run a suture over the staples on the stomach seam? When do you test for leaks? During or after surgery? How many of your patients have had gallbladder problems? How many had gallbladder removed? What do you do prevent this? What is your record concerning complications for the sleeve surgeries you’ve done? Can I use a straw to drink post-surgery? How much time should I take off work? How long will I be in the hospital? Will I need to take an antacid like Prilosec? You probably have different ones, too, or may already know the answers to some of mine, this was what I had come up with by the time my pre-surgery appointment happened. Hope this helps!

Lynda, thanks so much for posting here and sharing your story. It helps me so much to read that others have gone through this process, and not only come out the other side healthier and happier, but are able to maintain the weight level they've chosen. Here's hoping that I am equal to the challenges in front of me, too!

Yay! It's good to hear that you are having a good experience. Glad about the no nausea, and you go on that protein drink!!! I expect you're home already, right? -
Day 1 of three-week pre-op diet. Morning report: soft-boiled egg went down just fine. coffee tastes good. I need to take my measurements today. Hope you all are feeling fine!

Tomorrow I start my pre-op diet--no more than 30g carbs, no fewer than 70g Protein. I'll do this for three weeks, working to get into ketosis and shrink my liver (hmmm . . . where did I put those old ketostix from when I did Atkins 15 years ago?!?). Looking forward to surgery--sort of feel like I'm at the top of the ski slope with my skis pointed down, just tottering about to commit to the downward ride

1BadWitch, you might want to look at Southwest Bariatric, http://www.southwestbariatric.com/. They come well-recommended, and have clinics in Austin and Round Rock. -

I'm . . . skellertx on MFP Jeanne, I am SO GLAD for you logging your food and getting in some walking. It really does help, and I need to do that, too. I know when we got together on Sunday I mentioned I was starting the pre-op diet the next day, but I moved that to Thursday once I realized that is my 3-weeks-from-surgery date. So . . . Thursday. I think I need to buy a steak to get me started on the no-more-than-30-carbs-no-less-than-70-protein-grams pre-op diet. That will be something to look forward to. I have been walking the dogs at least a mile every day, but I need to get my bike in order again and start doing some cycling, too. And I've not been back swimming in almost two weeks, so that needs to get back in place, at least until surgery. Working on getting my work projects in order, too, 'cause I'm a little worried about that. Hopefully I'll be able to take the two weeks off without too much trouble :/ Smooches all around! -

I guess it's the same practice, though. So I'll actually be in RR next Tuesday over the lunch hour if you'd be up for getting together then. Otherwise, Sunday is probably the best day for me this weekend, and I would be happy to meet you somewhere downtown? Cafe Medici is a favorite of mine, on West Lynn and 11th St. Otherwise, you'll need to name a place further north that you'd like to meet. -

Mine will be at St. David's, too, with Tim Faulkenberry. I think they're partners in the same practice? Southwest Bariatric? -

Hi, there! How awesome that you've been so successful so far! I am supposed to be up in RR at least once a week; maybe we could get together for coffee at some point? Looks like my surgery will be fairly soon, as early as April 23, so I'm getting started on the pre-op low-carb diet as my BMI is so high. Would love to hear about your experience if you'd be willing to share. Thanks! --Sherry
