Frustrating Psych Results!!
cathie replied to Anyalee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I told the psych at my eval and she wouldn't clear me for surgery either. I'm on a 60 day hold unitl I can try again and I need to get counseling. Luckily I get 6 visits free through my husband's insurance. Even at that though I don't want to see her again as who's to say she won't charge me another $300 and deny me again. It bugs me that she thinks she can make judgements about me when she doesn't even know me. Especially judgements that involve the quality of my life and my health. -
Best friend or not Misery loves company. She is pain and she is probably afraid you may find a new best friend. Try to be patient with her. My friend is the same way but the bottom line is its not about her. This is about you and what you have to do for yourself. If she's really your BF she will love you no matter what as you should her so if shes not real supportive right now don't worry too much but you do what you have to do for you. This is not about her.

lab band/or gastric bypas
cathie replied to scanj05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a very good friend who had gastric bypass and was miserable for at least 3 months afterward she did however end up losing over 100 pounds. Then guess what? She started gaining weight and is now bigger than before. You can stretch the pouch with bypass same as you can with lapband. Look at Al Roker on GMA. You can see he's gaining again. It becomes a struggle no matter which you decide so my choice would be the least invasive as possible. Safer is always better as far as I'm concerned. I want to live. Either was its not easy. -
my surgeon wants to call me because he thinks the bypass is better for me

I totally agree. I am in the process of switching surgeons as well just because I didn't get good vibes from the psych he uses or his nurse. Very snippy. Yes it will take longer but you have time. Start trying to do a little dieting in preparation for your surgery and excerciseing and at 57 I know time goes fast but I still want to wait till I find someone I like and am comfortable with. A lot of people travel to get Lap-band done and even though you are busy if this is something you really want you'll figure out how to get it done right. -
my eval was done by a shrink the bariatric surgeon sent me to. I don't have a regular one but I got bad vibes from her after I was there for 5 mn. I had to take a paper test too about 20 pages long and it was trickey and yes I didn't know how to answer some of the questions so I just decided to be honest. I was diagnosed with bi--polar several years ago along with cllinical depression but I'm on Lexapro and I don't feel depressed at all really. Once in a while just like everyone else but nothing major. She said she felt that I had major issues with food and I wouldn't right now be a good candidate because I binge at night and until I get that under control wls wouldn't work for me. Keep in mind when I binge its usually with a bowl of cold cereal or a pandJ before bed. So now I have to document everything for the next 60days and see if I can somehow pass the eval again. I'm so dissapointed and I got bad vibes from this chick and that is who my surgeon uses so I don't know what will happen. By the way, I work out at least 5 days a week and work for Publix (supermarket) as well so I don't see how I can be soooo depressed. Its not like I'm in my bed crying all the time. This really pisses me off bigtime.

Well I got some not so good news today---I didn't pass the psych eval. I can't believe it. So I am now on a 60 day hold until I see a shrink, keep track of all the food I eat and get on a different anti-depressant as she thinks the one I'm on isn't working. I don't even feel depressed anymore. Until today anyway. Has this happened to anyone else. I think its weird. Of course I have food issues or I wouldn't need a lap-band for obvious reasons. I'm so crabby about this I could scream. And then when I go for another psch. eval. in 60 days and another $300 there is still no guarantee I'll pass that one and if I do my insurance will probably turn me down anyway. I'm over it but I'm not giving up. I just will have to do what they tell me I guess.

Indiogirl---Thanks for your reply. So far all I've had to do is fill out paper work and have a nutro and psych eval. Get a letter from my pcp and that's it. I'm supposedly waiting for approval now. Pray for me please. I want this so badly. I read alot of your posts and you always are so knowlegable about everything. Very helpful to every one. I hope it works for me as well as it seems to be working for you. I'm watching my diet now and also working out at the gym 4 to 5 times a week just to get into the habit. I've been a slug for awhile. I have about the same amount to lose as you did according to your ticker. This is a great site. I think I've read every post thats on it. Thank you so much for answering.

CIGNA people-How long did it take for approval/denial?
cathie replied to kacee's topic in Insurance & Financing
Tanderson- how did you get cigna to approve you sooo fast. -
they must do it different here as I to had my nutrition class, seminar, and psch evaluation and now they are submitting the info to cigna. I sure hope I don't have to wait another 6 months. That would really depress me. Where do you live Dixie? Your job sounds interesting. I work for Pubix Supermarkets here in Florida. Thanks for your reply

Hey Southern gal---I too am in the early planning stages and am also new to this post site but I love it. Can anyone tell me how long this takes if you are not self-pay? I started my LB journey August 17 and done the psych and nutrionist and all the paper work but am waiting for approval from my insurance co. Anyone else have Cigna? I'm jealous that most of you are already banded. I'm 57 and my Doc won't do it if you are over 60. I live in Clearwater, FL

Carabek here. From Clearwater too. I'm trying to get approved with Dr. Small at Mease Countryside. How long did it take you from the time you started till your surgery?
