Finished with pre ops and cleared for surgery! EGD was no big deal. So relieved it's over. The surgeon called me the healthiest patient ever, so that felt good! :-)
-
Tomorrow is pre op testing including EGD. Also had a dizzy incident at work. Bless my coworker that forced juice down my throat! Lol

GAWildkat? Any updates? How are you? Anyone else done? How was it!

Tips for newbies to transition before surgery
Melanie36 replied to GADeltaDawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 14 days from surgery, and for the last few months I've been exercising, tracking my food in my fitness pal, and I quit caffeine and Advil. I don't regret doing any of this now so that my surgery and recovery aren't such a shock and lifestyle change as they could be! Good luck on your journey! -
Experiencing crazy bad head hunger.... Pushing through but the Super Bowl definitely is a trigger for me. I didn't think it'd be this intense. Drank some warm broth, but it's bad watching the family eat pizza. Definitely the food addiction trying to sway me!

PS--- holy smokes, it's February!!!!! It's our month! Next month we will all be on the losers bench!!!!

Anyone have PCOS?
Melanie36 replied to BeautyInProgress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I have PCOS. I'm definitely excited for how my RNY (scheduled for Feb 16th) will help my PCOS symptoms. My PCOS was also half of the reason why I chose RNY over the Sleeve. I think the malabsorption piece will be key in my case since normal caloric restriction was never enough for me to get to a normal weight. -
Great advice!!!! I was remarking to my family how dehydrated I feel despite being on an all liquid diet. It's very odd! I appreciate the warning, and I'm ramping up my water intake!
-
What day are you on? Day 2-3 were really tough, but don't cheat! It gets better. I'm on day 6 and it's way easier. I have to remind myself to drink meals now.
-
Neat to see some having surgery Monday. Best of luck for a complication free/low pain surgery! You can do it! Anyone starting liquid diet this week? I'm on day 6, and man-- it's easy peasy after day 3. :-) I haven't cheated and I'm not tempted to at all!
-
Finishing up day 3 of liquid diet. I think I turned the corner for hunger and headaches. Whew! My only complaint now is the cold. I'm freezing!
-
Got my date! February 16th. I started liquid diet with the hope that I'd go on Feb 9th. Soooo... Should I keep going or eat solids? I feel like mentally, I'm in a good place and it makes me think that I should keep going.
-
Started pre op diet today! Will find my formal date tomorrow but it's either the 9th or 10th. Wow! So fast!
-
Hello! Just got my insurance approval yesterday, and my assumption is that I'll have a February date! Yippie!!! I'm having RNY. I'm getting nervous, but I'm ready for this. My pre-op diet is two weeks liquid. --definitely jealous of those that get a small meal once a day.

Approved!!!!!! I'm approved!!!! For those that have been previously denied, hang in there. If you're denied, make a choice to live as healthy of a life as you can until you can find a way to get approved!!!! So happy! (And now getting scared! Lol)

And now I got a letter that my claim is pending... They have reached out to my doctor for more info?? They want MD notes and findings, diagnostic test results, and previously tried treatments and medications. This doesn't sound good.... Feeling nervous and like I'm on a roller coaster again. I wonder how common it is to ask for more info from the doctor.

I'm back! Just an update-- i appealed and as I suspected, I was denied my appeal despite a very convincing, well written letter. I did my best to readjust my attitude about the situation. I used it as a life learning experience. I knew in my heart this wasn't over, so I was going to apply what I learned to my life and channel my disappointment into eating better and starting a workout program. And... Great news! I changed insurance starting January 1st and this coverage allows bariatric surgery!! Since I already finished the approval process with my surgeon, all the have to do is resubmit my paperwork. They either did it this last week or hopefully this upcoming week. I should know soon. I'm hopeful that I'll be on the losers bench in about 30 days or so!

BMI is over 40. And the Bariatric Coordinator called me last night. There's basically nothing I can do. I can try to appeal, but she doesn't feel it will change anything. Starting in April of this year, they changed their requirements (insurance) so that you basically have to be dead or disabled to qualify. She urged me to become politically active to try to see change, but I was essentially ushered out the door. :-( I will appeal, but I'm done. I asked her "what is next for me?"..... She suggested a job change for different insurance, but that's not realistic for me. So- again- what happens to us bariatric rejectees? Gah-- this feels awful- knowing that my only options are to do the same darn things that haven't worked for me for the last lifetime.....
-
I'm fairly certain this denial will stick. Our monthly support group last month was all about the insurance changes and how my insurance company, which is very popular in my geographical area, is declining nearly 100% now with no appeals going through. :-( I still had a chance since my plan was grandfathered. Ugh.

I have officially completed all my requirements! But--- my NUT told me at yesterday's final meeting that there have been some major insurance changes that are just now being enforced and they are having problems getting approvals. Seems like my insurance company is one of them. I'm so nervous that despite me and the bariatric team calling my company in March and getting info that this is covered, that I will now be denied. I've mentally accepted that I cannot do this without help/a tool, and if I get denied due to these recent changes, I'll be devastated. I know there's not much anyone can say or do, but I needed to vent. Thanks.

I'm probably about 1 month out from having surgery-- and I'm evaluating everything that goes in my mouth at this point-- from a counting calorie perspective but also from a "will this fit on my life going forward" perspective. Today, we grilled for the first time this spring, and it hit me that I'll likely be in full liquid and soft food stages during peak grill season. Any suggestions for things I can put on the grill? Likely there are things for soft foods...? If not, I'll easily deal because compliance to new diet comes first, but it would be nice to have some social time with my friends and family.... Ideas?

Newbie + frustrated
Melanie36 replied to HelenaMarie83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much water are you drinking? Can you increase your water intake? That seems to be my problem when I'm having large fluctuations like that-- I'm somewhat dehydrated and my body hangs on to it. Drinking more will flush you and let your body known that it's hydrated so it doesn't have to retain... -
Hello! I am a trained singer, and I'm pursuing RNY. I have some major gigs coming up so I need to try and time when I have my surgery. For those that sing, how long until you felt good again? 2 months? 3 months? More? Any insight you can provide is much appreciated!!!!
