I sprained my ankle this week really bad. In fact, I debated whether or not it might be broken. A quick trip to the emergency room revealed a severe sprain. The Dr gave me Arthrotec, and anti-inflammatory. I asked about my lap band and the problem with anti-inflammatories and he said that I should be fine. Plus I needed it really bad for my foot. I read about this stuff and it's supposed to be pretty bad for your stomach. I'm pretty worried, but my ankle is in terrible shape. Help me!!!

I've been on LBT forever and hope to read it over and find some of the people I used to chat with on here. I just wanted to tell me story since it's changed so much since the last time I was on here. I got my lapband in May of 2005, so about 3 and a half years ago. I was about 263 pounds at that point. I lost down to 185 at one point, then got pregnant in October of last year. Our sweet baby girl is 4 months old now and I am around 220 lbs. I just had a fill and don't feel too bad about my weight since I just had a baby. If I was asked if I'd get the lap band again I would do it for sure. I have loved my band from day one. The band is not for people who are not 100% serious about losing weight though. If you cheat it will hurt or make you sick. If you eat the wrong thing it gets "stuck" and feels like crap. My band is tight as a drum right now and I'm on straight liquids. I'm trying to do a quick weight loss thing since I gained like 35 lbs from the baby. Thank you lap-band for stopping me at least 900 times from eating the wrong foods. I could never live without you!!!

does anyone have any regretes or overall happy
HamuChan replied to keishonda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had my band for 3 and a half years. NO REGRETS still. None. It has been the best decision I have ever made. My situation is extremely different then yours though. You only have 5 pounds to lose?? Did I read that wrong? I was about 80 pounds overweight when I got the band. Please don't think that the band will not drastically change your life. You will never eat out the same again or have some of your fav foods again. Make sure that's worth it for 5 lbs. Or maybe I read it wrong. Annnnnyways, I love my band. Go lap-band!! -
POLL Does Everyone Lose Their Hair??
HamuChan replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost OVER 50% of my hair in the first year. The hair has grown back to normal thickness over the past few years. Don't worry, it'll come back! -
I have been working out now 5 days a week for 3 weeks. My workout does include weight training. I have not lost a pound in 7 days and I have been watching my diet. In fact my weight may have even gone up a little. I am really depressed about this and am wondering if my weight training could be stalling my weight loss. I thought weight training may slow my weight loss but not reverse it. Does anyone know exactly how the weight training effects weightloss?

My gallbladder has been attacking me...
HamuChan replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After i lost a bunch of weight my gallbladder went nuts and I ended up in the ER. I had to have emergency surgery to have it removed. The surgery is about as painful as having the band. Your pain level really depends on you, but for me it was a bit less painful than the band. After the surgery high fat foods give me stomach aches and don't agree with my body. I really can't do anything fried or cheesy unless I want issues. Good luck! -
It is definately possible to lose 100% as you've heard from other banders in this thread. My response is the same as theirs. I hope I can lose 100% of my excess weight as well. The 1st 50 lbs was the easiest, after that my own effort had to be put into this. I need a nice tight fill and exercise and I can successfully lose.

There I was on top of the world. Then I kinda just stopped weighing and ate what I wanted for the past 6 months. I knew I had gained some weight when I noticed a few pairs of pants fitting snugly. Then....my husband mentioned it...He may as well have stabbed me in the heart with a flaming dagger. I was crying and upset, boy did he feel stupid. I refuse to change my weight on my profile because I will have this weight off in a month. I SWEAR. I am up about 18 pounds. Today me and my husband joined a gym and I worked out for the first time since I got my band. It actually felt really good and I have my work out bag all packed for tomorrow. I am going to go every single day until I get to goal weight. I just can't let the weekend spoil me. NO WAY. I am so depressed guys. Why have I gone through all this just to gain weight? And it's TOTALLY my fault. I was drinking beer all the time (like 5 times a week) eating chocolate, ice cream, eating lots of mushy stuff, Jack in the Box tacos, Taco Bell, "eating around the band," and pretty much sitting in my recliner whenever I am home from work. I am stressed because now I know it's possible to gain weight back with the band if you're not careful. I mean how could you eat like I was eating and expect not to gain weight?? Don't get me wrong, my band helps me immensely. I only gained 17 pounds eating like that everyday for 6 months, I deserved to have gained like 30-40 pounds. My band still limits what foods I can eat, what time of day I can eat, and the amount I can eat. I love my band and would be in SOOOOO much more trouble without it. But this is just a grim reminder that I have to watch it. I cannot depend on my band to do everything because I need to stay active and eat healthy. I need encouragement. Has anyone elsed had a setback like this?? How did you handle it?? I am going to eat a banana, they're only like 100 calories right?? :welldone:

Congratulations!!! You are an inspiration to banders! 100 lbs in a year?? How wonderful! :) :success1:

Why Aren't You Losing Weight?
HamuChan replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost weight weight for the 1st year, then it stopped. Now (since January) I have started working out 5 days a week and the weight is coming off again. At first I was able to lose weight without exercise but eventually exercise was necessary for weight loss. I am averaging about 2 lbs a week right now. I can't wait to hit my goal weight!! :success1: When my weight loss was stalled I was eating the wrong foods. Better food choices make the lap-band work!! Wrong food: Ice cream, chips, cheese, alcohol, chocolate, tacos, candy. Right foods (your band can't be too tight): chicken, veggies, fruit, ground beef (lean), Water, yogurt Those were just some ideas for those that are having trouble losing. -
What's your opinion on those? Good or bad? They don't really fill you up, but they're a convinient way to track your calories.

Regained weight, scared, need support :(
HamuChan replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:update: Ok, so I wanted to let you guys know where I am now. I've been working out 5 days a week for the last 8 weeks. I am still not back to the weight I want to be but I am getting SO close I can taste it!! My body is looking very different though. I am much more tone and I look slimmer! So all and all I've lost 16 pounds in the last 8 weeks. Two pounds a week isn't too bad. I need to lose two more lbs this week!! -
Now my sister is getting a lap-band too. So that makes me, my mom, and my sister to get lap bands in my family. Is there anyone else that has had lap-bands in their whole family? I LOVE MY BAND!!!
-
My mom had lap-band surgery at 57. I think it was a great move for her! As you get older its more important than ever to keep your weight down. Don't worry about your age.

My mom is a recovery room nurse at The Surgery Center of Richardson! It's a nice place. I was banded by Dr Jayaseelan in Dallas. According to my mom his surgery methods are the best. But for fills I go to The Surgery Center of Richardson because my mom works there. Dr Jay does a great job securing the band in place during the initial surgery. He's a nice guy but is REALLY busy because lap-bands are so popular.

Regained weight, scared, need support :(
HamuChan replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
**UPDATE** I am so depressed again. I lost no weight in this last week eventhough I have been working out everyday. Maybe I am gaining muscle?? I am doing weight training. You guys, I know I ask so much but I need support yet again. My weight loss has stalled in the past week and I am working out SOOOOOOOO hard. 1 hour a day... I cried today because having no reward in the past week has been an emotional drain. I am so depressed about this I can barely lift my head. (I did work out today though) -
Ok so I finally got my butt moving. I joined a gym and have worked out for 3 days straight. I am going to keep working out until 20 lbs are gone. I've already lost 3 lbs since I began my workout!! :huggie: My workouts have been intense! Ok so my question is, when will I stop feeling completely drained and exhausted by my workout? I know workouts eventually GIVE you energy but so far I am just tired and sore. I want to feel that pumped up energetic feeling! Does it take weeks or will I feel it soon? I need to feel that good feeling soon or I will be SO tired all the time until my 20 lbs are gone.

Funny about teaching!! I am also a teacher, but I do teach math in high school. What a coincidence!
-
I have the small band too. My doc told me that I had a small stomach. Mine has been a success, I love my band.
-
Maybe your old docs kept better records than you think. I'd at least check with them. Maybe you'll be in luck! If your weight is 215, is your BMI 40 or above? 215 seems like a pretty low weight to have that high a BMI. Good luck to you!

Well I have been working out 4 days a week and counting my calories for the past few weeks. I have lost 5 pounds since I began working out but I am thinking that I am eating too many calories. I am eating approximately 1700 calories a day and working off about 300 doing cardio. Am I eating too much though. Everyone on here says to eat like 1200 calories right? So is 1700 bad? I am having a really difficult time cutting down to 1200 calories. I am SOOOO hungry lately since I started working out so much. Plus food tastes better and stays with me longer if a has a few extra calories. I am feeling paranoid because I still have so much weight to lose. Thank goodness for my band here to help me. I am not nearly as hungry as I would be. Losing weight is 1 million times easier with the band, but I do still have to make effort and watch what I'm eating.

Counting my calories, how many should I eat?
HamuChan replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow you guys, now I feel really bad. I ALWAYS eat more than 800 cals a day. I thought that if you didn't eat enough your weight loss will stop and you plateau? Plus it's bad for your body right? I went to that web site that was recommended here and it said that 1700 calories a day will provide me with rapid weight loss. Of course I'm really tall and big boned. I'm 5 foot 8.5 inches tall. Pretty darn tall for a girl, I think... Sigh, c-a-l-o-r-i-e dilemma?? -
I wonder if I am overworking myself? I think some days I do. I am only at the gym for about 45 minutes on weekdays only. I do take weekends off. But today when I measured my heartrate when I was on the treadmill it was like 190, waaaay too high and I was only jogging for like 10 mins. I guess I wasn't ready for running?

Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome ...
HamuChan replied to Candle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not had a period in months. My gynocologist suspects PCOS. :huggie: I'm freaking out! I'm actually fairly sure that I have it, considering another doctor diagnosed me with it years ago (I just ignored it back then). Does this mean that I can't have kids?? God, I hope not. That would ruin me and maybe even my marriage. We wanted kids soon. I hope you guys have good news for me. I just found out about this like 2 days ago so I am still confused and worried...
