Hi Dianne and welcome to our "scaredy cat thread"..... I am no longer nervous about the op itself, I just had two of my local friends come through with flying colours. Like you - I do get anxious about vomiting, pb'ing etc...and remembering all the right things.......... but I will take each step at a time, and with the amazing support and encouragement of all those online, and my weight loss team - I am sure I will be fine, and so will you...... here, squeeze my hand.... did you feel that reassuring squeeze????? enjoy the journey, and keep us posted - hugs Karen -

Ann - Good luck with your appointment, be strong, and be assertive (but nice).... catch more flys with honey, but make sure you tell him how committed you are, and that you want to get on his surgery list, so you can continue to diet until that date............ YOU WILL BE GREAT!!!! p.s. copy and paste the ticker, directly under your name, on your signature text box......... hugs K -

Good morning Ann - Thanks so much...I read your post, with the words "WILL" emphasized in my head.... hugs for that!! I made it through day 2, and feel better so far on day 3, even though it's only mid-morning here. I am on Tony Ferguson shakes (which I think are Aussie only), it's supposed to be Opticrud - but I cannot stomach them at all. I am also using a bar version sometimes, green tea, diet jelly, vege's, miso soup.... I can do it - it's just taking it 10 minutes at a time when the going gets rough................ -

I'm looking for some good advice!
justwaitin2b replied to Sandy6464's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How close are you personally to her? When she has dieted in the past, has she been a person to talk about it? or does she keep it all secret? Where abouts are you? Alot of the surgeons here in Australia have info seminars, with no obligation, and this can take the fear out of finding out more, but you need to ask her to go with you - not the other way around.............. tell her you love her, and you are scared to lose her, and dare I say - use guilt if need be, to get her to the info session - but after that.... you can only be a support person - it will be up to her to commit to the process... good luck to you, K -

thanks Striver - i have just spent 1/2 an hour reading various threads and posts, and have got through one hell of a craving - mind you all 3 of my girls have been sent to their rooms, so that could be helping too!! A mentor huh??? I can do that.... but I'm still just me, honest and open, obsessive about information, and love to help people......... i get my buzz from watching someone grow and blossom, and knowing I played a small part in that journey - so if you promise to listen to my moans and groans occassionally, i promise to keep you motivated while you wait for your band...... deal? And remind me, when you are starting pre-op diet... to give you some really good advice of how to beat the cravings and withdrawals.................lol!! What does "M" stand for? hugs to you, and thanx - K -
Good luck Jo............ I am Oct 29th, so pre-op at the mo! I'm sure you'll be fine..let us know, when you are home safe & sound......... cheers Karen

Hi Roxy - you need to get this checked by a medical professional, you may have developed clotting of some sort from the operation or recovery period - there is nothing I have read in the last 12 months, that would indicate this is related to gastric band surgery......... good luck, karen

Hi LuLu - Put the chip down, and back away from the table!!! lol - you need to double check your books etc - you should really only be only liquids for the first 2 weeks, and then on mushy foods for the next two............... if you can't find anything, let me know, and I will post some usefull links for you - or maybe call your surgeon's office? good luck - karen -

Hi Ann, Are you kidding me? 23 lbs in 6 weeks is bloody fantastic!! You are amazing!!! That is as much, if not more than you will acheive being banded, do you realise the work your poor body needs to do, to burn that much excess weight in 6 weeks, as well as keep you functioning - you are doing great, stop being so hard on yourself. Now - what is the worst thing that can happen at the Doctors appointment? He says you haven't lost quite enough yet? So you stay on your pre-op diet for another 4 weeks (with the additions you found work better for you) and you show him, how amazing you really are!!! Then you see him again - and get his commitment to you reaffirmed, and get your date............ honey, you didn't get big over night, so don't expect miracles over night either, but you are doing so well..... just a little bit more, and you will be able to reach your dream of changing your life forever!!! FOREVER!! No more starving, no more hunger, imagine what you can acheive then............ YOU CAN DO THIS!!! I am 250lbs and BMI of 43, and I can't see myself thin, I told my surgeon that I don't really in my heart of hearts beleive it will happen.... because I can't see it in my head, and he said.... that is totally normal - but when the scales start going backwards - I will start to see it, imagine it, and live it!! and you will too............... If you can be so dedicated for 6 weeks - you can do just a little more!! I start my pre-op diet today - for 4 weeks, so we will do it together!!! GO US!!! Big hugs... -

You have done so well sweetpea, you are inspiring! Focus on the positive, and chat whenever you need to, ramble, moan, winge, whatever you need to let out........... I beleive in you, you can do this - xxK -

Hi Carol, Res & New me(welcome - there are 3 threads already for October bandsters luvie, have a looksee in support groups) Carol - I am so glad to hear you are safe, sound and happy on the other side.................... keep me posted - everystep I can live vicariously through you, will make me more prepared for Oct 29th..lol!! I am starting my pre-op diet a week early (we do 4 weeks optifast over here) cause we are taking the kids away in our caravan for 4 days during what would have been the first week of pre-op, and I just know I'll cheat a bit - so maybe I can make up some grace by starting a tad early! Talking to all you guys has put my nerves at ease about the op, but I am starting to crave foods I haven't even had for yonks! and that's just the lead up to starting for pete's sake - I haven't even started yet!!! wish me luck, keep chatting - i love hearing from everyone...... y'all are wonderful!!! hugs Karen -

Janet - you silly sausage! don't feel bad about posting anything and everything on here - you are the important one at the moment - I am over my fear now, and just want to be banded yesterday (if you know wot I mean)...... talking to you, and the other wonderful supportive people here, is what got me through in my hour of need, and now it's your turn..... So - 123 jump, get on the phone and ask the other doctor's staff the important questions, be open and honest, ask - ask - ask!! Do they favour band over bypass? how many of each have they done? if you transfer to their care, can they use your records to continue your process from the same stage, as you have no desire to start the process again, but are not entirely satisfied with your current weight loss team. These are all questions you are entitled to ask - you are the customer! Even though he is a doctor, a surgeon and we normally put these people on a pedestal (cause they are rully rully smart..lol) at the end of the day, they are still running a business, and without you the customer, they have no business........... Go on - you can do! Be happy - talk soon hugs K -

justwaitin2b replied to justwaitin2b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Luvie - No!! don't do it! Bypass is an actually physical change to your anatomy, and is too drastic!! The fact is, if we could lose weight without a band, we would have by now - it is not a deciding factor, for if you should have one. The only reason you need to lose a few pounds before surgery is to shrink the liver, to help with the surgery (it's a big bastard, and needs to keep out of the way) The rest of the weight loss process, is a joint effort between you, your band, and your weight loss team. It sounds like they are more familiar with the bypass, and therefore wanting to stay within their comfort zone, instead of whats right for you. Ask them how many bands they have done? and how many bypasses? I betcha I'm right...... You stick by your guns honey, it's your body and your life - let me know how you go - big hugs K -
