Will Weight Watchers Work?
justwaitin2b replied to HersheeKisz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Jacqui - no offense taken, just a good healthy debate amongst like minded people, searching for answers... love it! The thing is I don't lose any weight on calories above 1000, and most people are the same (you are part of the small percentage of people able to do that)..... i maintain weight at calorie's between 750 - 1000, as do most overweight people, fairly sedentry, fatty livers etc......... so therefore the simple message is : very low calorie = weight loss (now you can choose to stay on Optiyuk strictly forever, and achieve weight loss, but it will all come back on, when you start eating "normal" foods again) or you can be banded, and work with your WLS team to find that sweet spot where food doesn't control your life, you have your daily berocca or other liquid vitamin, and 3 small portions of food a day, no snacks.... until you reach what ever is your goal........... the band is the tool that fights the dominant enemy - hunger!! If you read - George Fielding's "You rule my world", or Robin McCoy's story or any of the other world wide lap-band representative's - they will say, for the majority of people... it is basic science, less calories consumed = more weight lost. I am not saying that WW isn't a good tool, it is... but this lady has a professional team, and a fantastic tool inside her, that can do this job, without her stressing about points and food groups. If she still consumes the amount of food recommended by WW, she will only be as successful as a person attending WW.......... true???? -

obviously we have different opinions on what the lap band function is - these food recommendations are for the initial weight loss period, and are clearly documented in several publications............. e.g. "The Lap Band Solution" by Prof. O'Brien -

same thing will apply - you won't be able to eat the portions that WW uses to work........... what is the point in having your band, if you need to do a set "diet"????? talk with your WLS team - you should have adequate restriction, so that you are only eating 3 x 1/2 cups foods/per day........ that is the point of the band, not to help you stick to another form of weight loss.................. good luck, Karen -

Yeah for the 2%!!!! 'cause I know how devastated you would be, to wake up 1 year from now, and find yourself back at the start, or heavier.....................you will be fantastic I am sure!! Make sure you post as soon as you can, and be kind to yourself!!! We all have a last supper or three - I even went to a restaurant with hubby and had bruscetta, oysters kilpatrick, reef & beef, and wine........... then got back into my band headspace ready for surgery - Big hugs!! hey guys - I am going well, the lap band wounds are easy peezy, and have started to get my energy back. Have also lost 3 kgs since Monday - gotta love that. I spoke to Dr D. thurs arvo about my shoulder tip pain, not everyone gets it - just the lucky few!! and it should be gone in a few more days..... I just need to lie flat. It happens when some gas escapes (they pump your tummy full of gas for the op) toward your diaphragm, unfortunatly that is also where the nerves for your shoulder are - so even though the gas is only at diaphragm height the pain is in the highest point on my shoulder. Have had no problem with any fluids - except soluable panadol - go figure!! two sips of that, and I started feeling like I was gunna hurl, so went back to tablets cut in half. How is everyone else doin? we gotta get some action back on this board baby!! -

Hey Everyone, I am banded and home...... the gas pain is the worst bit...... try not to sit up too much in hospital, because it escapes to the highest point...therefore the flatter you lie, the more comfy you are. I still am very tired, but getting up for a walk every 1/2 hour or so...then back for a nana nap! I will post again when my stamina increases......... luv ya's all!! -

This is part of an email from one of my friends who had a fill yesterday - and it was the best description I have read - "It went well. I don’t know what I was expecting but it was all over so quickly and with the minimum of fuss and no pain. Went in got weighed. Happy to say I have lost 7 kilos since the op and 15 kilo since start. That was more than enough to keep my spirits up. Then Dr. came in and we had a chat about the green zone and eating only 1/3 or was that ½ a cup three times a day was all I would be eating- any more and it would mean more fill but to give it a week. Then I lay down on the bed. He made a joke about the first fill being the most painful and how the walls were sound proof. He then prodded around abit finding the port then had a sharp jab that was the needle going in and had to raise my head as in a small sit up and then a normal sit up while he filled. My stomach gurgled a little in the car but that is the only symptom. I don’t feel hungry at all and have been told to have custard or yoghurt for tea and on to solid asap. I have been surprised by the whole process in that I was expecting to feel pain be laid up for a while and in all I have felt great. I am so glad I have chosen this path . It is so hard to describe that feeling when someone says to you you have lost weight or you are looking so good. I can not remember the last time I was in single digits ( okay there are three in total) but in 9 kilos time I will be down to double and I really believe I can make it. The thought of losing another 29 kilos does not seem so unrealistic." I hope this helps....... cheers K -

okay - silly question.....what do you do with the deer after you hunt them?? do you eat them? or is it just a sport?..... always curious to know different practices...... We don't really have anything to hunt in Australia - except feral pigs (they are good for nothing, ruin pastures etc) but you can't eat them....... kangaroo's (sometimes they get to plague proportions in the country - and they don't seem so cute)...... rabbits (mainly in the southern states - these are not the cute fluffy type, and are eaten in stew etc)..... otherwise it's only flys and spiders - and we can hunt them with a can of spray!! cya K -

hey karlvr, thank you for your post, I wish you the very best of everything for your surgery too!! My suggestion for anyone getting banded on halloween, is to have something scary or funny written on big cotton undies, to amuse the surgical team, and give you that little he,he,he feeling!!! Tell me a bit more about yourself - I am always interested in having new friends............... hugs K -

Hey guys - I have been a bit scarce lately, I'm sorry, just really busy, and every spare moment is spent looking for a permanent job for hubby. Only 1 week until my op now - not worried at all, just looking forward to the journey starting in earnest. I have lost 4.5kgs on my scales - but too chicken to compare them to anyone else's yet..... I know I can put on 1kg at the drop of a hat....so just focusing on keeping to the pre-op diet to take the effort off my liver, so that it is nice and pretty for the op............. how's everyone else going?? hugs K -

danna - yep - did all the blood tests, and liver function tests etc (part of the blood tests).... mainly, they do these as a diagnosis, and to keep good records. I was worried that the bad reports would stop me from surgery, infact the assistant said, it is more reason for surgery, they just need to be documented............... so dont worry luv, they are pretty routine!! you'll be fine............. hugs K -

LIQUID PHASE – FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY Immediately post op you won’t be able to have anything, ice chips only!!! Next day- (after barium swallow) water – tea – coffee – clear fruit juice – diet cordial * Peppermint Tea ( Twinnings ) (good for the wind) Apple juice Green tea chupa – chups for sore throat? *liquid vitamins (Berocca) are important (IRON is essential) *DEGAS CHEWABLE Then you must sip slowly!!! perhaps 50mls every 10 minutes…. * Anything you have must be thin enough to fit up a straw, and have NO LUMPS. if you need to water things down ……try doing it with milk which helps with PROTEIN . Thin soup / clear broth / miso soup callipo’s day 3 you should be able to start milk drinks - Flavoured milk, sustagen, up n go, milo, etc prune or pear juice if you are having issues moving your bowels. V8 fruit & veg juice (orange juice - can be too acidic) jarrah 99% fat free hot drinks or latte Lite Coffee Chill ( 70% less fat than Reduced Fat Flavoured Milk ) ww custard with extra milk to be thin enough(yummm) ww mousse - let it dissolve in your mouth skim milk smoothies low cal.ice cream Veggie soup ( rather runny…just remember not to have lentils /chickpeas as they add to wind factor! ) Cup-A-Soup ( can make them as runny as you like ) *no croutons Icy poles ( Berri Quelch Smooties.) by day 4 or 5 you possiby could drink 120ml (1/2 cup) every 20 – 30 minutes. By then end of your 2 weeks of liquid you can start thickening up your things in preparation for mushy stage. pureed tin of peaches/apricot/pear yogurt fruche Fruit puree ( Goulburn Valley Twin pack ) Yoghurt Frozen Yoghurt ( Bulla Fruit'n Yogurt ) Just remember variety is the key to staying sane. And keep your water up....sip, sip, sip all day! from someone else.....also having Soluble Panadol...which took 15 mins to drink. Then discovered Mersyndol was by far a better pain killer. Split tablet into quarters and they went down well with a sip of water
