Had to turn down opportunity at work bc of my surgery :-(
knitlil09 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I work at a bank, and have moved up fairly quickly over the past few years. Our bank is in the process of purchasing another bank in an area of the state where we don't have a market presence. I got a call from my regional operations manager this morning asking me to be an ambassador for the bank and go to the other bank for a few weeks to assist with the transition. I unfortunately had to turn the offer down because the time frame interferes with my surgery. I am so sad about it because it's a huge honor to be asked. I know that my surgery is more important and I wouldn't even think of postponing it to accommodate the trip, but I still really feel like I'm missing out on something great. I know that the important thing is that he thought of me and I was asked. Sorry, I just really needed to get this off my chest. If only it was happening a month later! Ugh! -
Had to turn down opportunity at work bc of my surgery :-(

Thanks guys. I just really wish I didn't have to turn it down. I know other opportunities will come, but it's always hard having to say no to such opportunities. A lot of really great things have happened to me at work this year, I just need to focus on that and on the fact that when I'm healthier, I'll be able to wow them even more :-) -
Yes lol I'm on my preop diet and haven't tried almond milk or anything but water that's a no go.... Have any hints for the preop diet? It has thankfully not been too bad for me. I only had one or two days of cravings, and that was over the weekend when I was lazying around the house when it was raining, so boredom hunger, haha. I do pretty well at work and don't have cravings. I am allowed 2 shakes and one meal with 3-4 oz of lean meat and veggies. I make sure to plan in advance what I am making for dinner so I don't have an excuse to cheat. For instance, tonight I had a little filet and brussel sprouts. I also have tons of Jello and sugar free popsicles in the house :-)

Have you tried other lactose free milk type products? Such as soy milk, almond milk, etc? I agree, I tried protein powder with just water once and it was horrible. Are you on your preop diet?

Tylenol. You should be able to swallow pills at this point. -
I'm on the preop diet right now. I am allowed 2 shakes and 1 meal of 3-4 ounces of lean Protein and 1 cup non starchy veggies. I really haven't been physically hungry, which I've been really suprised about. I have had a few bouts of head hunger/cravings. I've been wanting pizza soooo bad! (My weakness) I've been able to control myself though thankfully.

I am self pay and had my first appt with my surgeon the third week of April. I am scheduled for surgery June 9th. I would have gone quicker but I had some timing issues with scheduling preop stuff because of my work schedule.

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!
knitlil09 replied to IfICanDream's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm June 9th as well! -
My costco is currently only carrying the chocolate. I am considering buying one of the other flavors online. I didn't realize they sold online, but that's good to know. Thanks!

Water weight. They pumped you full of IV fluids. Don't worry, it will go away.

Looking forward to time off after surgery
knitlil09 replied to thesuse2000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm looking forward to it as well. At first I felt guilty, but I know that I need to do this for my health and that's more important than what's going on in the office. I told them that I'll be off between two and four weeks. I am personally aiming for three, but I won't feel bad if I take the fourth week. -
I I am on day 3 of my preop liquid diet. So far things have been fine and I haven't been physically hungry or craving too much. I am however starting to feel a little weak and shaky. Is this normal, and is there anything I can do? My dietician did say that it's okay to have an extra shake if absolutely necessary if I "feel like I'm going to pass out". Don't know if this constitutes that though Thanks!

Preop liquid diet question
knitlil09 replied to knitlil09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a good thought, thank you. I didn't even think of the blood sugar. Unfortunately I didn't think to bring an extra to work with me, so I'm going to have to tough it out until I get home this time. But I guess I'll keep an extra at work in the future -
I had my sleep study done about a week ago. I had problems from day 1 with the clinic and they just didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. They were a brand new clinic, only had one tech, and kept trying to get me to meet with their doctor to see if I needed to do a study even though my doctor said it wasn't necessary and that I needed to do the study regardless. They are now trying to get me to schedule an appointment with their doctor yet again to go over the results. I remember having my sleep study for my lap band years ago, and I never had to go back in and meet with anyone, they called and gave me the results and I came and picked up the machine. I feel like this doctor is just trying to get appointment copays out of me, and her office is giving me the run around. I contacted my pcp and he is working on getting them to send the results directly to him, but I don't know how long that's going to take and I have my surgery scheduled soon. So am I being irrational about not wanting to meet with this doctor? Also, the only times she is in the office to meet with patients in Mondays and Tuesday afternoons. Where the hell is she the rest of the week? What if I can't work my schedule around that? Ugh! I don't know what to do, I just want to get the results and get my machine, which I'm sure I will get because I'm almost certain I have apnea. Maybe this pre op diet is getting to me :-/ I have had so many appointments for so many different things and I just do not want to go to another friggen appointment to hear something she can tell me on the phone. Thanks for listening to me vent! And any info you can give me on how things went when you got your sleep study would be really helpful.

Yes I did because the apnea went away when I lost the weight. -

So were you still able to have your surgery? -
These are my two children, loves of my life, Coco and Pepper. I adopted Coco from a shelter, and found Pepper at an adoption clinic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as a kitten. If I didn't take him, he would have gone back to the pound and would have been put down :-(. Coco is a crazy calico, and I didn't know anything about their personality traits before I brought her home, haha. She is a DIVA and the center of attention at all times (in her mind :-)). Pepper is the sweetest little angel. I developed a very strong bond with him when I rescued him, and I couldn't imagine our household without him. I'm having my surgery June 9th and will be staying with my sister for a week. The hardest thing is going to be being away from them :-(

I am actually scheduled for surgery June 9 and will already be in San Antonio at my sisters house getting ready. But next time!

BCBS ppo of MA Out Of Pocket Cost?
knitlil09 replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in Insurance & Financing
It's hard for someone to answer that question because everyone's deductible and maximum out of pocket costs are different. And even at that, it would depend on how much you've already paid toward those this year. Your insurance card should have your deductible listed on it. You can call your insurance to see what your max out of pocket is as well as how much you have paid toward it so far to see what to expect. -
I don't remember the exact price, but I believe it was around 25-27 for an 18 pack.

June 9, in San Antonio :-)

They also have them at Costco and Safeway stores. I live in Texas and we don't have Safeway, but we have Randall's which is part of Safeway and they're carried there. That being said, it's a much better deal to purchase them at Costco in bulk. My dietician said that it's the shake they recommend to their patients so you might want to ask your doctor.

Pre-op diet - pantry necessities
knitlil09 replied to wittygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my prep diet Wednesday, and I'm actually going to spend some time this evening cleaning out my pantry and fridge. I plan on getting rid of everything in the pantry except canned veggies and some fruits, Soups, cooking essentials, sf Jello, and crystal light. I am also basically going to clean my fridge and freezer out of everything except lean Proteins and I Can't Believe Its Not Butter spray. I'm going to costco first thing in the morning to stock up on Premier Protein shakes and frozen chicken. I also need to get sf popsicles and broths, but I plan on getting those from the grocery store because I don't need giant Costco sized packages. I also just ordered some unjury Protein powder for post op. I live alone, so I don't have to worry about keeping stuff around for family, so I think it will make it easier for me to avoid temptation. -
Wow 6 weeks sounds extreme. I'm sure you can handle it though. Are you allowed any solids at all? I'm supposed to start my preop diet on Wednesday. 2 shakes (premier protein) and one small meal of lean meat and veggies. I will be following it for two and a half weeks.

I think that it might also have to do with the fact that caffeine is a diuretic, and during a time when you're struggling to get enough water in, it's not a good idea to be doing anything to derail that.
